Helping Bucks Bees

Back in April this year, Climate Action Wendover launched its Bee Squared Project and delivered around 11,500 packets of wildflower seeds to households across the Wendover Community Board area, encompassing 10 Parish Councils. We’re delighted to report that hundreds of residents have participated in this project by planting their seeds, helping to create a much-needed source of food for bees and other pollinating insects as well as strengthening the local B lines so they can travel across Buckinghamshire safely. We’ve had such an amazing response! Local schools have also got in on the action with some asking for extra seeds and entering our prize draw, along with residents. We are pleased to announce that John Colet School will be receiving the £150 “Grow Your Own Fruit & Veg” prize to help their brilliant efforts in getting students growing in school.

We hope your patch is starting to establish itself and you’ve got lots of green shoots coming through. Please remember, especially in this hot weather, to keep your patch well watered. It’s also great to have a patch of wildflowers near to any fruit and veg you’re growing. The diversity and insects it attracts help produce strong, healthy crops. In September we’ll give you some tips on how to make Wildflowers at John Colet School your patch thrive even more by cutting it back. Meanwhile, we would love to see your photos of your patches, so please send any you have through to climateactionwendover@gmail.com. We’ve all noticed more wildflower verges and patches in our local parks too, which is great to see. A big thank you to The Wendover Community Board, Wendover Parish Council, and local firm Subadra for supporting Bee Squared, it has been a great partnership!
