THE RIDGE REPORT A monthly publication sharing the latest activities and updates at Wesleyan's Sandy Ridge Campus
First Back-to-School Bash Is Aug. 13 at Sandy Ridge Campus! In June of this year, WCA's soon-to-be student body president, Maggie Harrell reached out to Dr. David Ray, head of school, with a request. Junior Senator Hudson Lance had an idea that had great promise and she hoped that the school might entertain it. After a few phone calls, meetings with the administration, and a little research, Maggie and Hudson received the green light to move forward. Planning for Wesleyan's first Back-to-School Bash was off and running! According to Hudson, they wanted the Back-to-School Bash to give Wesleyan students and families a chance to come together and have fun before the year started. And that's exactly what the planning team is going to deliver on Saturday, August 13. Continued on back page.

When Misfortune Meets God's Provision As you may know, the Triad had some fierce storms this summer. In a sad twist of fate, several large oak trees on the Sandy Ridge Campus were downed by wind from one of those storms. The strong winds took with them decades of history. At least one of the oaks had stood on the property, once owned by Wesleyan founder Dr. Clyde Parker, well over 100 years.
Jus' Caus, Bluegrass Band
Dr. David Ray, Head of School, loved the idea. "If you were to look at a map of all the places that Wesleyan students live throughout the Triad, you would be amazed. Our students and parents drive from as far as Summerfield, Lexington, Asheboro - even Clemmons to Wesleyan every day." He continued, "What an incredible opportunity for Wesleyan families to catch up, meet new friends and have a great time before summer's end!" Wesleyan families have been invited to pack a lunch, a blanket and lawn chairs and head to the Sandy Ridge Campus during their division's designated time (see front page). Bluegrass bands "'Jus' Caus" and "Travis Frye and Blue Mountain" are guaranteed to set the mood for a fun time together. While the games will vary slightly for each division to ensure they are appropriate for the age of students, families may enjoy tug of war, spike ball, tag, ninesquare, bounce houses galore and much more. Sunset Slush will also be on hand to help keep us cool, in addition to a few water games! Dr. Ray concluded, "We're blessed and thankful to have such a beautiful property to allow us to enjoy events like this together."

When faced with this situation, Wesleyan leadership's desire was to honor the history of the trees while using the resources God had provided. The decision was made to mulch the trees and use them as ground fill and landscaping in and around the new Ludey Leadership Course. These trees had provided beauty and shade for so many years and today, we thank the Lord that they can be used to provide a beautiful foundation to the grounds of this leadership course for years to come.
