A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
Equipping Students to Serve Christ for God’s Glory
Dear Families and Friends of Wesleyan Christian Academy,
On behalf of our Board, administration and faculty, we are pleased to present this annual report, summarizing highlights from the 2022-2023 school year.
At Wesleyan Christian Academy, we strive to equip students - spiritually, intellectually, creatively, physically and socially – to fulfill God’s purpose for each of their lives. Through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, we believe that students will discover their unique gifts and talents and will use them to glorify God. Thus, we offer a rigorous Christian college-preparatory curriculum with uniquely designed biblical integration that is aligned and exceeds state and national standards. Our students are taught by an engaging faculty that is committed to mentoring and encouraging our students and cultivating a love for learning. Whether in the classroom, or on the field of play, on the stage with the performing arts, or with visual arts or on the mission field, we challenge our students “to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:1-3).
This was another exciting year at Wesleyan Christian Academy as we experienced our highest enrollment numbers in a decade. Our fine arts program had vibrant performances and wonderful exhibitions of student-created art. Across all sports, our student athletes enjoyed strong athletic seasons. We had our ribbon-cutting at our new softball field and we celebrated as our baseball team won the state championship. Our students performed extremely well on AP, SAT, PSAT, and ACT exams with our seniors receiving the highest amount of merit-based college scholarship offers in our school’s history.
We also set a record in the amount of funds raised in our Annual Gift Giving program – funds that were used for the following: lab stools, athletic sound system at Sandy Ridge, high school gym sound system, renovation to middle school locker rooms, flexible seating, multi-purpose volleyball court at Sandy Ridge, completion of smartboards, spiritual emphasis week, PE equipment, spirit rocks at both campuses and outreach events including Church Under the Bridge and Macedonia. Tuition and fees cover 100% of our operating expenses, enabling us to use these additional AGG fundraising dollars to enhance both our current Centennial Street campus and our new Sandy Ridge campus and programs. This year, once again, we received a clean, unqualified audit and our debt service is less than 3.27% of our operating expenses.
We hope you enjoy this annual report as we give thanks to the Lord for a great year. We are, as always, grateful for the contributions of time, talent, and treasure that we receive from families and friends of Wesleyan Christian Academy.
Serving Him, David Ray, Ed.D.

Annual Gift Giving
On behalf of Wesleyan's Office of Development and Annual Gift Giving Committee, we extend a tremendous thank you to the entire Wesleyan family for your generous donations to the 2022-2023 AGG Campaign. With your help, we far surpassed our goal of $300,000, with a total just exceeding $400,000.
We launched the campaign in October with an “AGG Hype Party," for the entire student body complete with our own Trojan mascot and the High Point Rockers' mascot "Hype”. For the next three weeks, our students, families, alumni and corporate sponsors graciously contributed to the campaign to help us meet our goal! Also part of AGG, this year’s Quarter Campaign and Silent Auction were a great success thanks to the many volunteers and teachers who contributed hours of their time. We simply could not have accomplished what we did without them.
This April, the AGG Committee was honored to host our corporate sponsors at Colonial Country Club in Thomasville for the annual AGG Corporate Golf Tournament. The Lord blessed our day with beautiful weather and great fellowship. To learn more about how your dollars were spent on behalf of our students and faculty, simply scan the QR code on this page to watch a video from our Development Office. Thank you Wesleyan!

In Their Own Words Chelsea Arthur
CHELSEA ARTHUR, EARLY EDUCATION CENTER PARENT "We started and ended our search with Wesleyan's Early Ed PreK program. We signed up for the waitlist as soon as I found out I was pregnant, because I knew it was the best program in the area. Our little boy is 3 years old now and we could not be happier with the Early Ed Center. The teachers and administration are always so kind and helpful. I trust them 100% with our son …He is thriving in his education and is learning about Jesus and the Bible!"
RAPHAELLA MUMO, CLASS OF 2023 "Wesleyan Christian Academy has nurtured me in ways beyond academic learning. The teachers, staff and fellow students have become my pillars of support, guiding me through both challenges and triumphs. Their unwavering belief in my potential has provided me the confidence to navigate the 'new world' after high school and for the rest of my life. I am forever grateful to be a part of this family who loved me from Day 1 as a tiny, shy 11 year old."

JENNA PETTY, ELEMENTARY PARENT “I could list so many reasons why we love WCA for our boys. It’s felt like family from day one. The staff here truly love your kids and want to see them succeed. They were able to pick up on some learning issues with one of our children and helped point us in the direction to get all the help he needed to be academically on track. From a spiritual standpoint, we love how they pour Jesus into them each day. We tell everyone we know who is considering WCA how it was the best decision for our family."
Jenna Petty
JAKE CHILTON, CLASS OF 2023 "I know I'm still very young, but Wesleyan Soccer gave me some of the best years of my life. Some of the primary life values I learned from being around my brothers and Coach Scott Reitnour will stick with me for life and I truly believe that. Coach taught us that on any team, whether it be your soccer team, work team or family team, your mission is to put others before yourself. 'Sweep the sheds,' in other words, make everyone's load easier by serving and putting your wants/needs behind others. He taught me what being a man of Christ really looks like."
Jake Chilton
GRACE MCNAIRY BOWMAN, WESLEYAN ALUMNA (2019) "As a student at Wesleyan, I learned the importance of having a strong support system who will continually direct me to the Lord. Through regularly attending small groups, chapels and Bible studies, I was drawn to find a spiritual connection when I went to Auburn (Class of 2023). In doing so I found a great Christian network and church in Auburn that has provided me the support and prayers needed to complete my four years of collegiate training. I am so grateful for the prayers and love from my Wesleyan family. War Eagle and Go Army!"

Service
At Wesleyan Christian Academy, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom walls. Our curriculum is rooted in a Christian faith that places a profound emphasis on service and the importance of serving others. We foster an environment where students understand that their education is not solely for personal gain but also for making a positive impact in the world. By engaging in service projects and participating in community outreach programs, our students learn empathy, compassion, and the value of selflessness. These images share with you a glimpse of our students’ service to our community in 2022-2023.

WESLEYAN ATHLETICS CARES As part of Wesleyan Christian Academy's unwavering focus on service, our student athletes are actively engaged in making a difference in their communities. In 2021, we launched Wesleyan Athletics Cares, an initiative that establishes a structure for our athletes to participate in service projects as a team throughout the year. By embracing this program, we aim to further develop leadership, the depth of character and commitment to serving the Lord in our athletes, in addition to their dedication to excelling on the playing field. Ultimately, our desire is to nurture well-rounded individuals who demonstrate compassion, leadership, and a genuine desire to impact the lives of others for Christ’s sake.

Academics
At Wesleyan Christian Academy, we believe that academic excellence is not merely a goal but a standard. Our faculty’s commitment to excellence was evidenced this year by their efforts to accomplish the remarkable feat of vertically aligning Wesleyan's curriculum across all grade levels and subjects, from Transitional Kindergarten to 12th grade. This alignment enables teachers to strategically develop a curriculum that not only builds upon previous years but also helps ensure students are fully equipped for their next grade level—providing a seamless and effective progression of learning.
In 2020, Wesleyan transitioned our Elementary and Middle Schools’ testing to *NWEA MAP testing, and the results have been remarkable. After its spring installment of MAP testing, the Enrichment Center — established for students with moderate learning differences — reported that each grade level experienced an average of 5-10 points of growth on Reading and Math. This is a great accomplishment!
Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade demonstrated exceptional growth this year in reading, surpassing national norms. In language usage, students in 4th through 8th grade exhibited growth that met or exceeded national norms. In mathematics, our students in Kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 7th grades showcased growth that also met or surpassed national norms.
Our high school students also excelled this year. The average ACT score was 22, with the highest composite reaching an impressive 34 out of 36. Additionally, the average SAT score was 1147, with the highest score achieved at 1460 out of 1600. Furthermore, 70% of our 230 high school student athletes earned Scholar Athlete designation, demonstrating their dedication to both academics and athletics.
And last but not least, the Class of 2023 retired their high school careers with an average unweighted GPA of 3.61 and by receiving more than $8 million in merit scholarship.
Well done!
16
*NWEA, formerly known as the Northwest Evaluation Association, is a research-based not-for-profit organization that creates academic assessments for students pre-K-12. NWEA assessments are used by over 9,500 schools and districts in 145 countries.

Early Education Center
At the Early Education Center (EEC) we cherish each of our students and take great joy in creating a nurturing environment for our youngest learners. Grounded in the belief that "Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him" (Psalm 127:3), our EEC teachers help establish strong foundations for their spiritual journey and future academic success.
We are pleased to share that the EEC’s Pilot Half-Day PreK-4 program was so popular in 2022-2023, we were able to expand the program for the 2023-2024 school year to include PreK-2 and PreK-3! This new Half-Day Preschool will be located at Conrad Baptist Church, our across-the-street neighbors! Additionally, thanks to the contribution of a generous donor, we were able to install turf on more than half of the playground on our Centennial Campus!
Throughout the year, the EEC hosted special events to foster a sense of community and celebration. Our new EEC Fun Days brought joy and excitement, while the Thanksgiving Program and Christmas program provided opportunities for our little ones to showcase their talents and share the joy of the holiday season with friends and family.
As spring arrived, we hosted Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Picnics to honor the important role parents play in our children's lives. And finally, the PreK Graduation served as a celebration of the growth and accomplishments of our students!
Our faculty and staff would like to thank you for entrusting your sweet children to our care. It is a joy and privilege to walk with these young learners!

CELEBRATING GOD'S GOODNESS IN 2023-2024
Throughout this report, you’ve seen glimpses of how our faculty has worked to help your child become all that God created them to be. From building strong foundations for academics and life and social skills, to creating opportunities to celebrate God’s goodness and share His love, 2023 has been a wonderful year! We’ve loaded the bus for field trips, learned new math and tech skills, and memorized spelling words and Bible verses. We’ve learned the Fruits of the Spirit in Chapel and served our school and community together. We’ve also sung our hearts out and prayed together. Even more, we made amazing memories that we pray will last a lifetime.

STUDENTS WELCOME VETERANS HOME On October 12, 2022, hundreds of Wesleyan elementary students and their families welcomed World War II veterans back to the Triad after last fall’s Triad Flight of Honor! Twice a year, the Triad Honor Flight organization hosts WWII Veterans for a day trip to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials throughout our nation’s capitol. What a blessing it was to see our students so excited to welcome these national heroes home at the Piedmont Triad International Airport with flags, home-made posters, and song!

Campus Life
At Wesleyan, the essence of our vibrant campus life lies in the bonds that unite us as Wesleyan Trojans. It is the rich tapestry of traditions, conversations, and shared experiences that create a sense of community and belonging.
Throughout the crisp fall days, chilly winters and beautiful springs, our campus buzzes with activity. We come together to celebrate Homecoming festivities, where the exhilarating energy of the Red Sea Student Section ignites school spirit.

Annual events like Grandparents Honor Day, High School and Middle School Retreats, Elementary Games Day, PTO Fun Night, Jr.-Sr. Prom, and Christmas and Easter celebrations foster connections among students, families, and staff.
Meaningful interactions extend beyond the classroom and organized events, as students engage in mentoring relationships and conversations in the hallways with students and teachers alike.
Through these shared experiences, Wesleyan Trojans cultivate lifelong friendships, memories, and a strong school spirit. Together, we embrace campus life united by our commitment to academic excellence, character development, and faith.

Playing for Milk
CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF SCOTT REITNOUR'S LEADERSHIP AT WESLEYAN
“Playing for milk”. Referring to boxer James Braddock’s (“Cinderella Man”) colloquialism, Coach Scott Reitnour, Head Coach of Wesleyan’s varsity mens’ soccer team, believes Braddock was speaking to a primal call for men to fight for their brothers, or family, on the playing field and in life. It’s just one of dozens of inspired calls-toaction Coach Reitnour has hallmarked to Wesleyan’s entire soccer program in his mission to grow athletes — but more importantly to him, to grow men of God.
Alumni Soccer Parent Chris Glover explains, “When you get to watch Scott Reitnour pouring into the lives of your own children and you see the men and women they become … It's just unbelievable. Scott is built for others in a way that only God could uniquely gift him.”
During Homecoming 2023, current and alumni players from near and far gathered to celebrate Coach Reitnour and demonstrate to him and the entire Wesleyan family the indelible legacy he has already made in these 20 years. Building on the program established by former Head Coach David Sanford, namesake of Wesleyan’s Sanford Field, Reitnour has amassed 8 state championships, bringing Wesleyan’s total to 17. But he has gone beyond that by cultivating a culture that is respected and revered throughout the entire state and region.
As Coach Sanford shared, “Scott is a top coach, he could go be the head of a college program. But he believes this is his vineyard. And Wesleyan is blessed because of it.”
Throughout his tenure, the sound of bagpipes ringing through the air to the anthem of "Amazing Grace" at Sanford Field has signaled the beginning of every home game, honoring the brotherhood of soccer and the team’s humility before God. This tradition, along with so many others, has created a rare treasure for the hundreds, if not thousands, who have been and will be part of Wesleyan’s soccer program. Thank you Coach.
*Quotes in this article are reused with permission from a docu-video produced by seniors Maggie Harrell and Carson Keifer, Wesleyan marketing interns, honoring Coach Reitnour’s 20th Anniversary at Wesleyan. The video was shown to the student body and alumni families during Homecoming weekend. To watch this video, scan the QR code.
Alumni
Wesleyan Alumna Phyllis Webb (‘77) was recognized as our Alumni of the Year during WCA’s Homecoming 2023! Mrs. Webb’s father founded our school, and like him, she has dedicated her life to Christian ministry. She and her husband, Rick, have ministered via music evangelism for 34 years, logging over two million miles. They have performed for two presidents, as well as thousands of Christian leaders, including the likes of Billy and Franklin Graham, Chuck Colson, and Dr. Charles Stanley.

Thank You Blythe.
For almost a decade BLYTHE GLOVER'S name, spirit and photography has become synonymous with Wesleyan Christian Academy. From behind the lens she’s memorialized our greatest triumphs and challenges, celebrations and once-in-alifetime moments.
Blythe began as a volunteer and her talent and passion grew exponentially over the years until we ultimately convinced her to become Wesleyan’s “part-time” photographer. But as Blythe would say, “Let’s be real” – there was no part-time about it. For years, wherever Wesleyan kids and families were in action, Blythe was there with camera in hand. From the playing field to the stage and beyond, she covered literally every aspect of life as a Wesleyan Trojan. The early morning and late night hours she spent on campus capturing every moment were too many to count, yet the hours she spent behind her computer ensuring every photo stood the test of her trained eye exceeded all the others.
Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, Blythe has decided to step back from her role as Wesleyan’s photographer, yet we are excited for her to enter this new season. Make no mistake, her bright smile and contagious laughter will be missed on campus. The good news? She’s still around town and she’s a die-hard Wesleyan Trojan. So when you see her out at dinner, shopping, at homecoming or at an NC State football game, make sure to let her know just how much we love her – even more than the incredible photography that has graced our publications, website, social media, and campus for years.
Thank you Blythe, for beautifully documenting a lifetime of memories for ALL of us.
