Welcoming Beau Hair Stylists outlook at quality hair
New hair salon, Beau opened in April and is owned by Becky and Ryan who recently moved from a franchise salon in Bournemouth town centre. Steph told us more about the salon and it’s unique name, “We chose the name for its french translation as beautiful or handsome. The salon and beauty therapy rooms are clean and modern and we use the highest quality products from Bumble & Bumble. We did a lot of the interior design ourselves to get the salon to the standard it is now and we’re really happy with the results”. Beau’s team consists of Jenny, Jack, Carla, Becky and Adam who have all been professionally trained and continue to tailor their styling talents within the salon. “We cater for all styles from a basic cut to colouring and unique styling for special events. We want to make an impact locally and across Bournemouth, so come and visit us on Seamoor Road.” We asked Becky and Ryan why they chose Westbourne as a place to set up their new business, “Westbourne is a very up and coming location with great transports links, lots to do and it holds a very individual shopping experience too. We hope that our salon and our staff reflect the friendly atmosphere that we have experienced already from local people.” Steph and her team would like to welcome local residents to come and see the new salon and book. Call 01202 237007 to arrange an appointment with their knowledgeable team and experience beauty services from Botox® to waxing.

Music in Westbourne
punk to classical to rock to indie to...
This summer why not get out and about and see some top live music in and around Westbourne? Westbourne itself has a couple of venues that put on live music nights including The Article submitted by local Hogshead which provides music most musician Ski Daddle weekends in the Soul, Rock, Ska and Hoedown genres. The Westbourne Pub has an occasional covers band and the Westbourne Conservative Club has more of a Country and Blues scene once a month. If you’re after music of a more spiritual nature, both Christ Church and West Cliff Baptist Church have live church bands at every service and St Ambrose has classical concerts from The Westbourne Orchestral Society from time to time. Just on the outskirts of Westbourne are four cracking venues filled with the best live music. On Queens Road, Centre Stage is host to internationally and locally acclaimed Folk music and across the road, Champions also attracts top talent from the Rock, Punk and Blues genres. A little further towards Bournemouth on Poole Hill you will reach The Winchester, a more eclectic menu of music and performing arts of which you are unlikely to find anywhere on the South Coast. You can experience Spoken Poetry to Burlesque, Hoedown to Indie bands, Happy House to Salsa Nights. Head West towards Poole in Ashley Cross and Mr Kyps has a range of cover bands, internationally acclaimed artists and local talent to be viewed. With such a wide variety of style and venues, take the time to enjoy some of the cultural delights on offer around Westbourne. If you fancy making music then head to Don Strike in the Westbourne Arcade where you can get your hands on everything from a Banjo to a Jaws Harp, a Gibson Guitar to a Recorder, eclectic, essential and well worth a visit!

Calling All Retirees
new friends you will gain...
Meridian Friends is a local organisation owned and run by Westbourne resident Julie Dugan. Started in January 2009 Julie told us more about the history of the organisation, ”I started with a modest newsletter to members offering days out and one coffee morning a month which was at The Westbourne. At the first few meetings attendance was around 20 members, when it reached 60 one morning I realised I needed to expand! I now meet approximately 150 members at 5 venues, six times a month across the BH postcode.” Julie recognised a need for someone to facilitate social events, days out, holidays and short breaks for retiree’s, or indeed semi-retired, in the area where they can meet like minded individuals and make new friends. “Each quarter I try to organise a number of events that are accessible for all and varied too. For instance this current newsletter offers a theatre trip to London to see either War Horse or Million Dollar Quartet, a lunch at The Queens Hotel with a guest speaker from The National Trust and a cruise in 2012.” Meridian Friends would like to encourage potential new members to attend a coffee morning at The Westbourne, Poole Road on Tuesday 10th May at 10.15 am.
Bring this magazine along for a free current newsletter, coffee and cake. For more information please contact Julie on 01202 428888 or email julie@homeuser.net

A Butterfly Emerges
from Ann Runyard
This is a story of the increasing stress and pressures our teenage children experience in this modern world of advancing technology, changing education, sexuality and the difficult transition from child to adult. I have just completed a course of Bowen on a delightful fifteen year old girl that culminated in a most interesting and positive outcome. There were physical and emotional signs and symptoms, generated by poor body language, which was causing concern to both parents and child, who was normally animated, energetic and intelligently communicative. Over a period of six weeks I saw her embrace the therapy with maturity, humour and enjoyment, only to blossom into a different child. Her stress level lowered, her confidence grew and her communication skills rose to a formal mature and vibrant level. As a result her body language and energy noticeably improved. This is a classic example of the diversity of Bowen Therapy, a gentle form of body work over muscles and fascia, sending messages deep within the body, culminating in the awakening of cellular memory. It is a relaxed, balanced and well being treatment. This young girl came with presenting signs and symptoms, which were addressed, only to emerge like a butterfly from a chrysalis, where the whole body took time out to rebalance itself.
