Hello Lollipops!

The popular play centre in Westbourne has underdone a major facelift and is now open as Lollipops Play Cafe. The transformation has taken place with Carole Evernden at the helm and looks the part with colourful lollipops on the walls of the fun-filled space, once a church hall. Carole told us more, “I am delighted to be developing the business in 2013 as Lollipops. We’ll be offering the fantasic established range of activities, classes and facilities and bringing some new additions too! Our new website has full details of what’s on and when, and I encourage people to follow us on Twitter (@lollipopsplay) and on Facebook for all the latest news and special offers, just for our customers.” Carole runs Lollipops with her husband Chris and also receives essential assistance from daughter Chrystel. “This is a family business and we want to be at the heart of the Westbourne community”, explains Carole. Open six days a week, Lollipops also employs a number of local staff members and has weekly sessions from popular local providers such as Minky Moos, Baby Ballet, Musical Steps, Debutots, Jo Jingles and more. In addition to being open for general play and the well stocked cafe , Lollipops is one of the best venues in south for your child’s next party. Party goers have a choice of packages, use of an exclusive party room and a range of food and drinks options. Available slots are booked up months in advance so we recommend calling 01202 766710 to secure your party early! Free Entry! Lollipops also operates a loyalty card scheme. Simply cut out the card opposite and get it stamped each time you visit - your eighth visit is then free!

Traditional Tasty Treats Candy Corner

A fantastic new addition to the Westbourne Arcade, and ideal if you’ve got a sweet tooth, is Hannah’s Candy Corner situated in the Fair Trader. Featuring a fabulous array of traditional boiled sweets, old favourites and speciality candy bars, it’s a fantastic place to pick up a treat for yourself or gift for a loved one. They also stock a variety of jellies, toffees, bon bons, mints and even a sugar free selection. We learnt from owner Jackie and daughter Hannah that the most popular treat is currently liquorice. Hannah told us, “We’ve had a brilliant reaction from our regulars, and visitors to the area. People love to re-discover their childhood favourites and it’s lovely to see the younger generation finding out about classics for the first time.” Starting from just 25p, you’ll be sure to find some of your favourite sweeties and if not, they’ll try adding it to their range! You can easily pick up a bag at the till for just £1, from fruit salad to fried eggs. Hannah and the team are extremely welcoming and offer a bespoke package service. From retro classics that evoke the past, to contemporary delights that beckon the future, Hannah’s Candy Corner is the ideal place to bring you an unrivalled taste experience. Hannah’s Candy Buffet Also on offer at Hannah’s is a range of unique sweet trees and arrangements, a tantalising tailor made treat for your tastebuds! Sweet Tooth - Ian McEwan £7.99 Another darkly comic novel from one of our best fiction writers. Love and espionage in 1970s Britain. People of all ages are welcome! Where is the Argyll Bowling Club? Well, that’s another pleasant surprise in store for you. They have a stunning location on West Overcliff Drive, above Alum Chine and the Tropical Gardens. You don’t have to be a bowler but having sampled the friendly atmosphere and excellent facilities you may like to try. We spoke to Sylvia Nagarkar who told us, “We will be having open days on Sundays 5th May and 9th June when anyone can come along and have a go for free. We’ll be happy to give you all the help needed to get you started and supply the bowls and shoes. Of course if you’re already a bowler you’ll be even more welcome! There’s nothing guaranteed to lift the spirits like a game of bowls on a lovely summer’s day. If you don’t believe me, come along and see for yourself.” “You could visit the Cafe Argyll, which is open to the public, offers a wide range of light snacks and meals and also has a bar, and talk to some of our members. Reflecting on Reflexology Explains All

Surprise! They say a change is as good as a rest, so I thought I would bend your ear to the benefits of another holistic therapy, Reflexology. The premise is, that there are tiny reflex areas in the feet, and hands that link up with ten energy lines in the body which are related to all the major organs. By massaging these reflexes, a stimulus travels up the energy line and through any organ lying in that pathway. The goal is to trigger the self healing mechanism within the body to rebalance and retune. It dates back some 5000 years and like most ancient therapies got lost in the passage of time. It was resurrected in the 1930’s by an Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon- Dr William Fitzgerald- who discovered, that by tying ligatures around each finger, he could locally anaesthetize the head and face, which allowed him to do minor ENT surgery without drugs. Imagine that in the 1930’s! The Mother of Reflexology, Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist and midwife who worked with Fitzgerald, pioneered the technique and it is her original method which has been the foundation for training today. The extensive research into spinal cord injuries over the past twenty years has given this holistic therapy much credence and is widely accepted in the medical profession today. I believe it to be an effective way in treating many stress related conditions like insomnia, lethargy, hyperactivity, muscular aches & pains, minor skin problems, asthma, and digestive and hormonal problems. Contact Ann to see how reflexology can help you, call 01202 760492. Email: info@annrunyard.co.uk Web: www.annrunyard.co.uk
