Sunrise Saddle Up Staff at Sunrise of Westbourne, the specialist residential, nursing and dementia care communities, will be taking on a gruelling 67 mile cycling challenge around the Isle of Wight, on Saturday 15th September, in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. They will be joined by other Sunrise staff as well as family members in crossing the Solent to test their pedal power. The team are aiming to emulate the success of last year’s expedition and quadruple last year’s amount and raise £6000. Tim Buckley, General Manager at Sunrise of Westbourne told us, “Last year’s bike ride was a huge success. With just a few of us, we managed to raise £1500, and are confident that with all the extra recruits we have on board this year, we can most definitely hit our target.” You can donate online: www.justgiving.co.uk/sunrise-senior-living Dress to Donate for Fab Cause Westbourne based boutique Fab Frocks has teamed up with children’s charity Julia’s House to launch its first ‘Dress to Donate’ scheme. The multi award-winning boutique will be donating to the charity 10% of every full price dress sold to anyone attending the forthcoming Julia’s House Enchanted Garden Ball. The prestigious ball includes a grand auction, entertainment and live music plus a three course dinner, takes place on 29 September at Upton House in Poole. Fab Frocks customers will also be able to take advantage of an advance booking deal on tickets for the ball. Find out more at Fab Frocks at 17 Seamoor Road in Westbourne.

Get Groovin' - At Your Own Pace! McKay tells us all about Zumba Gold
If you'd like to try Zumba but are worried that it may be too fast paced, Zumba Gold is for you! Licensed Zumba Instructor Kathie Mckay told us more, “The Zumba Gold class is suitable for the active older adult, true beginner and people who may have physical Joy Prouty, Maria Browning & Kathie McKay limitations (e.g. joint problems). It consists of a series of easy-to- follow Latin-inspired dance moves which are delivered at a slower and more controlled pace. It is less intense, with specifically designed dance routines based on the same dance moves used in the original Zumba classes. The class is 50 minutes long and the moves focus on improving balance, strength and flexibility, while raising your heart rate and improving cardiovascular ability.” Zumba Gold Classes in Westbourne start on the 10th September and our readers are entitled to attend their first class COMPLETELY FREE!

Welcome to the Autumn Book Review. I have just returned after three weeks holiday so a big thanks to Joanna, Sarah and Mary for their hard work and extra hours in my absence. Now seems like a good time to remind you that we don’t just sell books! We have Naxos classical CDs in store at £6.99 each, and can order most other music for you in a day or two, and as well as those we have in the shop, DVDs are also available to order. Please ask for price and availability. We have gift stationery, including Emma Ball notecards, Moleskine and Paperblanks journals and diaries. Our 2013 calendars are also now in store for those of you who like to plan ahead.

Photo Competition Results entrants
In our May/June edition we ran a photography competition. We received a range of entries with diverse and interesting views of the local area. All the entrants were displayed in a gallery on our website (www.westbourne.info) and the entry with the most votes from our readers was named the Readers Choice winner. The Readers Choice winner was Danielle Davenport’s tranquil photo of a statue of Mary outside 'Our Lady Immaculate' Church in Westbourne. The image has been displayed as the cover image of the Westbourne Facebook group for the last month. Readers Choice Winner Danielle Davenport The overall winner was judged by professional photographer Claire from photographybyclaire.co.uk and the Westbourne Magazine Editor Tom Faull. Brian Barnes’ colourful beach hut detail and seascape was chosen for its composition and vibrant colours. Brian, who lives in Ferndown Competition Winner told us, “I Brian Barnes usually convert most of my photos to black and white as I feel this to be a better medium but this particular photo seemed better in colour, and I'm glad that I made that choice!”

The Temporo-Mandibular Joint on the Bowen option
Do you grind your teeth? Does your jaw click? Have you experienced extensive dental treatment? Is there pressure in the head, poor memory, upper respiratory tract infections, and allergies? Do you suffer digestive disorders, headaches and stress? These are just a few conditions that may be related to the misalignment of the Temporo- Mandibular Joints (TMJ). The TMJ is positioned each side of where the lower jawbone meets the skull and, along with muscles of the lower face, allows you to talk, chew and yawn. The range of movement and symmetry of the TMJ, a core bi-lateral joint, will have a profound affect on facial dynamics and health throughout the body, especially the pelvis, neck and the autonomic nervous system. Four energy lines or meridians pass through the TMJ area, namely the small intestine, gallbladder and stomach. Three cranial nerves also pass this joint, one of which is the Vagus nerve, supplying fibres to the throat, lungs, heart & digestive organs. Diabetes and chronic illness, such as Parkinson, can all cause damage to the Vagus nerve and nervous system. Such damage can result in digestive disorders like swallowing difficulties, weight loss, heartburn and nausea. Specific Bowen procedures used in this gentle but powerful technique, can influence thirty eight nerve endings passing below the waistline, including both the body’s Ph and lymphatics. It is considered to be a valuable rebalancing procedure for many ailments.
Book Three, Get Fourth FREE Call Ann today on 01202 760492, book three treatments and get a fourth free to help balance, realign and re-establish your health. Everyone should try the Bowen Technique.
