Tanning Magic? tanning experience
Majic Tan owners Beverley and Jerry, assisted by son Jason, took over the popular Westbourne business in February this year. We asked them what Majic Tan is all about, “At Majic Tan, all customers will receive a warm welcome as well as a first class service and advice on tanning. We are members of the Sunbed Association and our staff are trained in using the latest equipment and techniques.” Majic Tan is also home to Lisa Niemier, resident Advanced Aesthetic Practitioner. She offers various treatments, available for men and women alike. Services include options to smooth out wrinkles, have fuller lips , improve your skin tone and complexion. We asked Beverley about trading in Westbourne, “There’s a real community atmosphere here, I see it more as a little village due to the range of things going on in the area.” She then told us how Westbourne has changed, having lived here since she was 9, “My oldest memories of Westbourne were the sweet shops and local green grocers in the arcade. There more coffee shops and boutiques now, which offer individual products and services you won’t find anywhere else.” We asked about plans for Christmas and 2011, “We are offering a number of treatments over the Christmas period including sun beds, spray tans & nail treatments. Ideal for the Christmas party, holiday or as a gift for a loved one. We are also very excited about the new holistic treatments starting in 2011 and after government legislation is put in place to stop unmanned sunbed salons, we will strive to be the best sunbed salon in Bournemouth.”

Golden Investment
with KK Bullion
KK Bullion is the only physical gold provider on the south coast offering a wide range of gold bars and coins for every budget. With years of experience they can guarantee a fast and reliable service regardless of the size of your investment. We spoke to Marko Puustinen, marketing co-ordinator at KK Bullion, about its origins, “KK Bullion was established in order to provide its founders with a safe haven investment in physical gold bars. Following a sustained period of worldwide economic growth the financial system became exuberant and reckless and we felt that the possibility of financial turbulence had become likely. Marko explained about the investment opportunities, “Gold bars are a vital investment where the value of the world’s major economies and currencies is falling. The price of gold is not connected to any specific economy, as it is governed by supply which is falling and demand which increases as investors and governments turn to it when their own economies are in difficulty.
Invest In Tax Free Gold Gold has outperformed the property & stock markets for many years. In times of economic turbulence gold is a great preserver of wealth.

West Cliff Baptist Church from Chris Brockway
There’s something almost magical about Christmas. While children dream of Father Christmas and his sleigh, adults picture snow-laden Christmas trees, stockings brimming with gifts and the joy of sharing with loved ones around the fire. It's a season of excitement, rejoicing and sometimes not a little stress! Is that how you see it ... or is there a missing ingredient in our Christmas celebrations? We warmly invite you to join with us at any of our Christmas Services as, in the words of C.S. Lewis, we celebrate the ‘central event in the history of the earth – the very thing the whole story has been about’. As we gather to sing carols, listen again to familiar stories and watch the younger one's dress up in the Nativity, we in fact celebrate the birthday of the most significant person who has ever lived! A highlight for many every year is our Carols By Candlelight Service on Christmas Eve, where, in the atmospheric candlelit surroundings of West Cliff Baptist Church, we have a moment amidst all the rushing around to still ourselves and find that all important, but so often missing ingredient: ‘Emmanuel' God with us. Warm mince pies and refreshments will be served afterwards! Or why not join us for our All-Age Christmas Day Celebration Service as the children excitedly show each other some of those long anticipated gifts, and together we celebrate the birth of God's Son.
We look forward to welcoming you!

Welcome to my second contribution to the Westbourne Magazine. I have been Home Manager of Canford Chase for over 5 years, and I really enjoy the excitement at this time of year as we plan our special festive events at the Home. An important feature of these events for the residents of Canford Chase is the home cooked food! It is easy to over indulge on festive food, but balance is the key to having an enjoyable and healthy time. Here are some suggestions: • Have generous portions of vegetables such as carrots, parsnips, brussel sprouts and broccoli on your plate, or in warming soups. • Swap puddings for fresh fruit salad, topped with plain yoghurt and honey, a large bowl is well on the way to half of your ‘5 a day’. • Snack on dried fruits such as figs and dates, instead of chocolates.
All of the above are super sources of vitamins, minerals and fibre, to keep you feeling energetic for your festive parties! Peter Watson, chef at Canford Chase, has provided his “secret recipe” for Festive Mulled Punch: Ingredients: 1 litre cranberry juice, 1 litre orange juice, slice 2 mandarins and 1 lemon, 2 cinnamon sticks, 4 star anise. Place all ingredients in pan, warm through, pour in suitable glass, relax, enjoy!

What makes Canford Chase different? Your choice... your individuality...
Colten Care is a family-run company who have more than 20 years experience in building and managing high quality Care Homes, including Canford Chase. The prospect of moving into a care home may lead you to believe that you have to give up an independent and socially active life, but nothing could be further from the truth. Each home employs an Activity Organiser offering many and varied activities to enrich and fulfil each day, with the needs of an individual always taken into consideration. This, coupled with a resident-led hospitality programme which has an in-house chef, waitress service and locally sourced home-cooked food as standard, means that you can feel assured that your life choices will be acknowledged, respected and continued.
"A company well-known for their high quality care" Dr Hilary Jones

Welcome to the Christmas Book Review. Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who supported last month’s ‘Name the Dog’ Competition. The winner of the £10 Book Token is Mrs Bingham, who correctly guessed Boris. No quibbling now – he came with a name certificate! There are so many great books this year I have found it hard to choose just a few to recommend, but there is a selection over the page, and if you pick up a FREE copy of our Christmas Books Catalogue there are many more suggestions. We have lots of special offers on new titles so do pop in and have a browse. Don’t forget that we also have a selection of traditional and modern Christmas Cards, Moleskine and Paperblanks Diaries, Gibson’s Jigsaws and Wooden Games and a selection of popular branded board games, including Scrabble and Boggle. We also have lots of choice in Calendar designs and can order many more within a couple of days. NAXOS have a great range of Christmas music on CD from traditional Nine Lessons and Carols (£9.99) to the modern jazz standards on That Christmas Feeling (£5.99). We also have a selection of DVDs & can order in further titles. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to say a big Thank You to all the loyal customers who continue to support us. We would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and to that end will be offering our usual selection of wine and nibbles on Saturday 4th and Saturday 18th December (and maybe a couple of days in between). Season’s Greetings and best wishes from all the staff at Westbourne Bookshop.

Mabel & Jacks
new Westbourne retailer
Mabel & Jacks opened in Westbourne on Monday 25th October. It is a small family run business, supplying ladies and gents underwear, nightwear and hosiery. We spoke to Jane to find out what they sell, “We offer a fully qualified bra fitting service and specialise in mastectomy bra's. We stock traditional lines and classic ranges, including Triumph, Sloggi, Charnos and Wolsey. Mabel & Jacks offers a warm, friendly and most importantly a personal service. ” Why Westbourne we asked, “The area has a strong supportive community and a number of quality independent retailers, distinctly lacking in many of our chain laden high streets. Mabel & Jacks hopes to continue that independent trend and go a little way to keeping Westbourne High Street truly unique.”
