CITY OF WEST KELOWNA
A NOTE FROM
Office hours: 8:30am-4:30pm Monday to Friday (excluding Stat Holidays) GENERAL INQUIRIES
Mayor Doug Findlater Welcome to the City of West Kelowna! I can’t believe West Kelowna is celebrating its 10th anniversary of incorporation on December 7. We are excited to celebrate this important milestone with you. Brown Road will once again be host to the popular Winter Light Up on Friday, December 1 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Mayor and Council will be combining our anniversary celebration with the annual Light Up Event for double the fun! West Kelowna continues to offer the community quality recreation programming and the winter season activities are no different. These pages are filled with great activities for all ages and interests. With funding provided by the British Columbia Parks and Recreation Association the City has expanded
after school recreation programs. They have been positively accepted by the community with only a few spaces still available. Don’t forget the amazing camps that will be offered during Winter and Spring Break, to keep the kids busy while you are at work. There will be plenty of chances for skating at the Mount Boucherie Complex, Winterfest - Skate with Santa on Sunday, December 3 from 10:00am to 2:00pm and FortisBC is also sponsoring a free public skate on Sunday, March 18. I encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunities offered in this guide; West Kelowna takes great pride in providing a wide range of programs for our residents. We hope you enjoy them.

Research shows that participation in sport and recreation increases a child’s chance of success in life.
Some of the criterion to apply for the Jumpstart program includes: • Eligible children are between the ages of 4 and 18 years. • Eligible children participating in sport and recreation in West Kelowna and Peachland. • Funding goes to individuals, not to teams. • Up to $600 per child can be allocated per year. • Funding should be for a sustained program that lasts a season therefore a one-week camp would not qualify. • Funding can be provided to the same child for successive seasons, although the goal is that Jump Start continues to fund new children.
The West Kelowna chapter is made up of organizations that provide sport and recreation opportunities for children in our community including: West Kelowna Recreation and Culture, Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs, Westbank First Nations, Kids Sport and the West Kelowna Canadian Tire store.
• Funding preference is to pay for registration fees with consideration to fund equipment or transportation costs on a case by case basis. • Applications are not retroactive and must be submitted before the start of the season. Canadian Tire Jumpstart® has helped give more than 159,573 kids in financial need, the chance to play. Funding is based on the individual child’s financial need. The goal is to help those children who would not have been able to participate in a physical activity without the assistance of the JumpStart program.

We’ll use props and modifications to make the poses accessible for everybody. No experience necessary.
Sore and stiff backs can prevent us from performing the activities we would like to do. For those with pain or injuries in the back, neck, shoulders, this class focuses on strengthening muscles to maintain a healthy back by increasing movement in the spine and improving postural alignment. The use of props in both active and more restful postures makes the poses accessible for all fitness levels.
