Online Registration

• Go to the WSPR Intelligenz website: explore.wspr.ca Creating a new online account • Click “Register” to create a new account. • Enter in your personal information such as name, address, contact information, and password. Required fields are indicated with a * and require a response to save. Click “Register” to complete. • From the menu, you should now see your first and last name as the logged in user. Click on the menu icon, the click the Courses search, Enter in the course ID to find a specific course, or a keyword to search all courses that include the keyword. • Please have your VISA, MasterCard or American Express credit card ready

CREDITS & REFUNDS PROGRAMS

Full credits or refunds will be processed by contacting Reception a minimum of 7 DAYS for Pro-D Day, Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Camps and 3 DAYS for all other courses prior to program start date (less supply costs). Full credits or refunds are issued when West Shore Parks & Recreation cancels a program or when a program is not convenient due to course changes. Every effort is made to cancel in a timely manner (3 to 5 days prior to course start date). Year Long Preschool and Out of School Care: Please refer to Parent Handbooks for program specific cancellation policies.

PASSES

Passes are non-transferable and a $5 replacement card fee applies if lost or stolen. Credits and refunds are not available for promotional or Regional Passes. A one-time extension is granted for leaves exceeding 30 days. Leaves less than 30 days may be granted for medical reasons (with doctor’s note). Extensions apply only to 6 Month, Annual Family and Annual Passes for WSPR and do not apply to the Regional Annual Pass.

Credits are valid for one (1) year from the date of issue. For refunds, payments made by Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Debit will be credited to your credit/ debit card (some restrictions apply). All other refunds are refunded by cheque and processed within 10 working days. Prorated refunds may be granted at the discretion of the Program Coordinator for medical reasons (with doctor’s note), relocation outside of Victoria, course withdrawals requested after the first lesson and from date of request for Passes. A $25 fee may apply to NSF cheques, and credit card or electronic fund transfer rejections.

Improve Your Short Game, Improve Your Score. Located in the lower park at West Shore Parks & Recreation. The JDF Par 3 golf course consists of nine beautifully manicured holes, with yardage ranging from 79 to 170 and seven water hazards, this course is ideal for both the beginner and the experienced player. This course will only take a short commitment of time and is conveniently located only 20 minutes from downtown. Play on a first come first served basis – tee times not required.

Participants will be taught basic skating skills including: balancing on two feet, touching toes, walking forwards, marching and falling down. This class is for children who can skate independently. Skills include: gliding, two foot jumps, making snow and walking backwards. Children learn v-pushes, one foot gliding, two foot jump while gliding, walking backwards with some glide, two foot quarter-turns and stopping. Children learn two-foot glides on a curve, walking cross cuts, backward sculling and backwards stopping.

HOCKEY Rentals

Skate lesson fees do not include skate rentals. Rentals for lessons are available for a reduced rate ($1.50). Please arrive 15 minutes early for the first class to allow time to fit skate rentals.

Helmets

Helmets are required for all lesson participants. Participants are encouraged to wear gloves mittens, warm jackets and warm flexible clothing.

Inquire

Classes end 5 mins. early on the second to last day. Take this time to touch base with the instructor and receive feedback on your child’s progress, then determine what level to register them in next.

Ice Breakers Hockey League

7-14 Years

This introductory hockey program is designed for participants with some skating experience and little or no hockey experience. Our NCCP trained instructors will develop fun focused lesson plans that will develop skating skills and educated participants about hockey. Full gear is mandatory.

A class for children with very little or no skating experience. Learn the basics of ice safety and to stand and walk by themselves in an encouraging environment. This class is for children who can skate independently on the ice. Skills include: forward sculling, one foot forward glides, stopping, walking backwards with some glide, and two foot half turns on the spot. Skills children will learn include: one foot glides on a curve, forwards walking cross cuts, backwards skating and sculling, two foot backwards glide to one foot, and snow plow stop. Children will learn: two foot stop, forwards crosscuts, turning forwards to backwards, backwards to forwards, and two foot jump in a glide backwards. Children learn backwards mohawk turn, two foot stop in both directions, one foot jump gliding forward, fast backwards start and fast forward start from back stop. An intro to advanced skating, continuing to focus and enhance acquired skills. This class allows participants the opportunity to request specific skills they would like to focus on with unstructured practice time with instructor supervision.

This is a team-focused program designed for male and female children that have developmental disabilities. No experience is necessary and all skill levels are welcome. Learn to Play Sledge Hockey

This drop-in program allows players with or without disabilities to participate in fun, skills based sledge hockey session. No experience is required, and all necessary equipment is provided. POWERWEST ATHLETICS PWA programs emphasize correct technical skating skills through stride development, agility, speed, balance, quickness, and readiness through the effective use of edges. Our programs are unique in their program format, low ratio of instructors to participants, and are known for their professional skating instruction. Striding for excellence for 30+ years in coaching. Instructed by Mena Westhaver and her team of PowerWest coaches.

Edge Class

6+ Years

Taught in a unique format so everyone is moving at all times and challenged at their own level. Edge classes follow the “old school figure model” covering all edges forwards and backwards, transitions, accelerations and decelerations with an emphasis on balance, control, power, and strength. Register for the full program or register in the drop-in classes for $35 each. Please register in appropriate course ID.

Mini Hockey

4-6 Years

We will combine a skating lesson, a hockey practice and end with a mini hockey game. Bring your hockey player dressed in full gear and together we will learn all the basics. Jersey and water bottle included in registration fee.

Daytime Mini Hockey in a Semi-Private Format

4-6 Years

We will combine a skating lesson, a hockey practice and end with a mini hockey game. Bring your "mini" hockey player dressed in full gear! Jersey and water bottle are included in the registration fee.

These all ages lessons are available for skating, hockey skills, shooting, and goalies. Registered lessons will be offered on Monday mornings, Wednesday mornings, and Wednesday afternoons. For special requests please contact Mena directly at skatewithmena@telus.net.

Semi-Private Lessons

These semi-private lessons are for all ages and are available for skating, hockey skills, shooting, and goalies. Register in the full program or register in the drop-in classes for $46.75 per skater. Please register in appropriate course ID.

Pro-D Day Semi-Private Lessons

All Ages

These semi-private lessons are structured so each student will receive a semi-private skating lesson, hockey skills lesson and have an opportunity to scrimmage.

Pro-D Day One Timer Session

6-12 Years

This program is for the hockey player between the ages of 6 and 12. We begin with a group warm-up skate and then divide the kids up into like ages and abilities. All players will move through a skating station, hockey station and end with a mini-hockey game. Full gear required.

Serious About Skating

13-19 Years

For hockey players that want their skating to stand out.

The Juan de Fuca pool has a variety of features and amenities. Our pool is fully accessible for swimmers of all abilities. Equipment and amenities include: • Male, female and universal changerooms • Steam room, sauna and hot tub • 8 lane 25 metre pool • 1metre diving board • Leisure pool including lazy river and tot slide (for sliders under 48”) • Big blue waterslide (for sliders over 48”) • Aquatic wheelchairs • Zero entry ramp into the leisure pool • Handicare motorized lifts in universal changeroom, and Looking for pool, on the pool deck (provides access to hot tub, main and fitness, skating and leisure pool)

Schedule

AquaFit

A 60 minute shallow and deep AquaFit class of variable intensity in the main pool.

Lane Swimming

For continuous lane swimmers. Swimming pace is identified through signage in each lane, and includes casual, slow, moderate, and fast. Water Walking is not permitted in continuous lane swimming lanes.

Leisure Swim

Leisure time for adults and families with children under six. Access only to leisure pool and hot tub, no access to main pool.

Leisure Swim All Ages

Leisure time for adults and families with children of all ages. Access only to leisure pool and hot tub, no access to main pool.

$2 Youth Swim

A swim time dedicated to youth ages 12-18. Leisure pool, hot tub, main pool, and diving board are open.

Fun Swim with Slide

Fun for all ages! Main pool, leisure pool, hot tub, waterslide, and spray features are available.

Water Walking

For water walking in the lane pool. Continuous lane swimming is not permitted in water walking lane.

PRIVATE LESSON BOOKINGS A weekly lesson set with one of our skilled instructors! Bookings can include up to three participants with no additional charge. The primary booker is responsible for coordinating participants (of similar ability - within a 3 level range), and paying in full upon registration. 1:1 in-water parent participation is required for children under 3, and recommended for first time swimmers of pre-school age.

Swimming Lessons

1:1 Parent participation required. Focus is on entering and exiting the pool safely, bubble blowing, front and back floats and submersions through creative games and songs.

1:1 Parent participation may be required. Prerequisite: Terrific Twos Designed for swimmers who are comfortable submerging and blowing bubbles without parents. To complete, children must be confident using equipment to do floats and glides in shallow water and be comfortable performing skills off the tot docks in deeper water.

For beginners being introduced to submersions, unassisted front and back floats and glides. Parent participation is optional for younger beginners.

Lesson Cancellation Policy:

Prorated refunds or credits may be obtained if requested before the second class. Classes cannot be rescheduled. Makeup lessons are not provided.

Suit up for swimming:

Children who have not mastered toileting must wear a swim diaper in the pool. Swim diapers may be purchased at reception.

5 – 13 Years

Confidence performing front and back swims will determine advancement to Level 3. Children will be comfortable performing deep water activities.

Front crawl is the focus of this level. Diving, change of direction and treading water are also introduced.

5 – 13 Years

Front crawl, back glides and shoulder rolls are developed. Students must complete a 25 metre endurance swim to move on to Level 5.

Swim Kids 5

5 – 13 Years

Back crawl is introduced, along with sculling and whip kick on the back. Stride dives are taught and endurance is increased to 50 metres.

Swim Kids 6 & 7

2022 L.I.F.E Program L.I.F.E. assists individuals and families with low incomes to access recreation services and programs at all municipal recreation centres in Greater Victoria. The L.I.F.E. Program is designed for individuals and families in the Westshore whose combined gross household income must be at or below Statistic Canada’s estimated low income thresholds for 2021. Post-secondary students are not eligible.

5 – 13 Years

Work continues on front and back crawl. Elementary backstroke is introduced, endurance increases to 150 metres and basic rescue skills are taught.

Swim Kids 8, 9, 10

5 – 13 Years

For children able to swim distances of at least 150 metres (6 lengths) and those that have advanced front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke. Ready to learn breast stroke, side stroke, and egg-beater support, while continuing to refine front crawl, back crawl and focus on endurance.

We will help you increase your comfort level and confidence in the water through floats, glides, kicking and swimming. Work with your instructor to set goals to develop your swimming skills. This program is an introduction to swimming with a focus on front swims.

13 Years +

Swim Basics 2 - Adult & Teen

16 Years +

Registration on December 16th Develops an understanding of lifesaving principles. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defense and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a time swim. Prerequisites: Bronze Star or 13 Years of age. Recommended swimming ability equivalent to Swim Kids 8 or higher.

This course focuses on developing the front and back crawl, establishing comfort in deep water, and increasing your endurance.

Bronze Cross

West Shore Masters Swim Club

13 Years +

18 Years +

Experienced swimmers of all levels are invited to join us and improve their strokes and fitness with a program designed and led by an NCCP certified coach. Swimmers must be able to swim a minimum of 1000m in one hour and 200 m continuously.

Registration on December 16th For lifesavers who want more advanced training. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced Lifesaving Society programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certifications. Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion

Winter 2022 session will run 6:30-7:30 AM, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:30-8:30 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 8:00-9:00 AM on Saturdays from January 8th to March 31, 2022. The fee schedule is $132/1, $246/2, $342/3, $456/4 or $570/5 swims per week. You can register for any combination of days/week but must be consistent throughout the session (unfortunately, we don't have space in the lanes for "make-up" swims).

Learn requirements of completing the WSI Certification (Screen, Teaching Experience, Online component and Pool/ Classroom component). Candidates will learn and practice the foundation of instructional skills including teaching methods, learning styles, physical principles, progressions, communication, safety supervision and feedback. Prerequisites: Swim Kids level 10 or equivalent AND Bronze Cross, 15 Years of age by the last day of program.

We may hire swim instructors with a WSI certification and Bronze Cross, but to lifeguard you must have completed both WSI and NL. Boot Camp is a full body workout, cardio and strength conditioning class all wrapped into one! Class variations include athletic drills, strength and conditioning movements that will enhance your cardio, endurance, and muscular strength. Indoor Cycling classes are a great cardiovascular, no impact workout set at your own intensity. Your instructor will simulate a variety of sprinting and hill climbing drills enabling you to build your cardiovascular fitness and endurance. Classes are for all levels, beginners to advanced.

Do you need specialized exercises to assist your recovery or have a medical condition that your exercises need to address or be tailored around? Our team of Kinesiologists can help develop an exercise plan specifically for you, and demonstrate how to perform your exercises safely and effectively. Written medical clearance may be required before participation. Exercise Rehabilitation requires an assessment by one of our qualified Kinesiologists, then a follow up appointment to show you your exercise program.

Full body strength and endurance exercises will get your heart pumping, muscles working and body feeling great in this efficient and fun class! A continuous series of full body strength, core exercises and cardio intervals. Suitable for all levels of fitness. A fusion of indoor cycling (25 mins) with strength training (25 mins) for the ultimate balanced workout. Work through a burst of cardiovascular training drills on the bike then transition to a varied full body strength workout off the bike for the perfect pairing.

This water therapy class is for people graduating from one-onone rehabilitation sessions or those who require the support and guidance of the Exercise Rehabilitation Specialist. One-hour pool exercise sessions will include individual attention and program adaptation to give the best chance for improvements in strength and fitness function. This class is best suited for individuals with joint replacements and chronic pain. Pre-requisite: Rehabilitation Assessment, session, and Medical Clearance. For people who have had a cardiac event or those who have heart disease risks. At CASK Karate we inspire students to expand their abilities mentally, physically, and emotionally. Learn traditional karate-do, including principles of self-defence, discipline, fitness, and fun! Students should be able to follow a 1 hr structured class environment.

Women with Drive Golf Program

Ideal for women with little to no golf experience. Come out and enjoy 4 one-hour lessons. Weeks three and four there will be a twohole game night on course, after the instruction. Program delivered by a PGA of Canada professional.

This high energy soccer program introduces your child to fundamental skills, such as dribbling, shooting, passing and more. We will also teach a basic introduction to the rules of the game.

Soccertron

Soccertron’s enthusiastic coaches focus on motivating young players by creatively introducing soccer skill development. During each session there are themed skills that the coaches target for development. We ensure that these skills are taught correctly so as to form a foundation for future growth. Each session is packed full of safe, nurturing and enjoyable soccer skill exploration. As always, our staff believes that FUN is the most important part of FUNdamentals. All Soccertron coaches are eager to help each young player improve while having fun at the same time!

Pickleball is an emerging racquet sport combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis and is played in a fun and inclusive environment. In WSPR’s Move. Learn. Play.-based Licensed preschools, children have fun, build relationships and explore the world in which they live. Certified Early Childhood Educators who are also trained in fundamental movement and physical literacy skills incorporate basic components of physical literacy into the preschool programs. The aim is to give children the motivation, confidence and skills to be active for life. All traditional activities including arts & crafts, storytelling, music, cooking, indoor and outdoor play are incorporated each day, utilizing the amazing 109 acre JDF site, use of the library and Indoor Sports Complex, and special activities such as dance, art, sports, yoga and skating.

ASC will be a continuation of the Move. Learn. Play. based philosophy incorporating physical literacy, diverse art, craft and science activities along with lots of time for free play and socialization. Clay pieces will be fired in the studio's kiln and be ready for pick up approximately 3 weeks after the workshop. Workshop themes include: Year of The Tiger, Big Heart Little Heart Keepsake Plate, Coil Hearts. New Cedar Vista Horse Academy

Interested in becoming a part of Cedar Vista Horse Academy? This fun and interactive weekly program is designed for children to engage with the horses at Cedar Vista Stables in a variety of ways. The hands-on program promotes horsemanship while encouraging students to discover their love of horses. Weekly activities designed specifically for each age group. What to Expect: Each hour-long, once-weekly session will have students learning new things about horses and their daily care. The program is set up as a year long program with monthly registration Participants can expect to learn something new each week of the year. Weekly topics include safety, farm etiquette, first aid, horsemanship, daily care, and the basics of riding. Each student will also have the opportunity to explore communication, problem solving, goal setting, self expression and leadership through the various activities that Cedar Vista Stable instructors have planned. Children can also look forward to receiving recognition for completing their weekly or monthly topics!

VISUAL ARTS Open Studio Time and Drop In Pottery (10 Visit Pass)

*Registration required* For those with pottery experience who are comfortable working independently in the studio. An attendant will be on duty but instruction is not provided. Introduction to Organizing and Editing Your Photos in Lightroom

Join us in a fun and supportive environment to learn the basics of Jazz. Develop technique with the help of our experienced instructor. Those new to Jazz and more experienced dancers who are seeking to improve their technique are welcome to join this class.

NIA Dance

Dance has been proven to help cognitive function, as well as, condition the bodies heart, lungs, bones and muscles while just having fun moving to music. Nia is choregraphed and Free dance combined with Martial Arts and Healing. Nia improves circulation and helps maintain a healthy weight. Nia is great for any age, fitness level, or body type. Wedding Dance Preparation

Don’t leave the first dance, as a newly married couple, to chance. We can help you prepare for this special event. We’ll cover how to approach the floor with poise, basic step patterns, how to move as one and how to finish with flair.

This is a class for those who have a good knowledge of Italian and want to improve their spontaneous conversation on many different topics.

Basic Dog Obedience

Join certified trainer Melissa Van Londersele for a fun course to learn the basics of dog obedience; or brush up on known skills with distractions. This class will have a maximum of 5 participants to allow for social distancing, and will be an excellent opportunity to receive more one-on-one instruction than would be possible in a group setting of regular size. Fight Back for Women (Part 1)
