Balance Training That Matters Chad Benson
Flailing away in chaotic patterns and lifting weights while standing on inflatable toys can be, but often isn’t purposeful. Scientific, well programmed balance / proprioception training requires an understanding of the science behind proprioception and an application that matters. Purposeful balance training will help stimulate under active neural pathways and enhance dynamic and reactive joint stability. Participants will leave understanding the concepts and progressions required to enhance center of gravity control, impact joint stability and alignment, improve coordination and prevent injury due to falling. A combination of isolated and multijointed exercises will be utilized and progressed.

Functional & fascial movement science is remodeling the way we train fitness and performance clients alike. The science of functional movement assessment, fascial fitness, mechanoreception & myofascial sling anatomy will form the foundation of this 2 part seminar. Part 1 will allow participants to apply the science of movement, to assess, correct & progress from myofascial dysfunction to movement efficiency. Assessments associated with the Spiral and Superficial Back Line (Myers: Anatomy Trains) will be illustrated during this seminar.

This presentation will examine approaches to assessing body composition and modern research and knowledge that we have on altering body composition.

‘Fit into the 90’s’ History of the Island Fitness Conference
The Island Fitness Conference began in 1989 as “Fit into the 90’s”. The purpose of the Conference was to ensure that Vancouver Island fitness leaders had access to quality educational training on Vancouver Island. In 2000, “Fit into the 90’s” became “The Island Fitness Conference.” What started as a small group of volunteers has grown into a committee of programmers, instructors and fitness enthusiasts representing a good portion of Southern Vancouver Island.
