2017 CLUB PRESIDENT

2017 FESTIVAL CHAIRMAN

MARK STANSBERRY

(Rob, Wife Wendy, Addy, & Aiden)

My family and I would like to personally invite and welcome you and your families to the 96th Annual West Side Nut Club Fall Festival. This year’s Festival theme is “Making a difference today and for generations to come.” As the cornerstone of the west side, the West Side Nut Club is truly committed to making a difference. From our humble beginnings in 1921 until today, and into the future, the West Side Nut Club makes a difference in our community. Bring your children and your grandchildren down to our Fall Festival to enjoy the carnival rides, the games, and the food served from many of our community nonprofit organizations. As this year’s festival begins on October 2, I ask for your support, so we can make a difference today and for generations to come.

Welcome to the 96th Annual West Side Nut Club Fall Festival. This year’s slogan, “Making a difference today and for generations to come” is the foundation of the West Side Nut Club. When this small, one-night fair began in 1921, who could have imagined it would evolve into a weeklong street festival with so many events-entertainment from talented acts, world-class rides, and 136 food booths operated by local non-profit organizations. In keeping with our motto, “From Small Acorns, Large Oaks Grow,” the festival has truly grown and, over generations, added to the quality of life for citizens of our community. From my family to yours, we look forward to seeing you and your family at this year’s 96th Fall Festival and to having a safe, wonderful week on West Franklin Street.

Bob Ballard Monday, October 2 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Main Stage Bob grew up in Jefferson Parish, LA, part of Greater New Orleans. Bob is steeped in New Orleans’ jazz and blues traditions. He has worked with his own trios, then synthesized them with Midi bass and rhythm tracks so that he could work solo in New Orleans’ many piano bars. Bob has played in venues from Key West to the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago. He is a journeyman musician accustomed to singing four hours a night, five nights a week. In 2002, Bob left New Orleans for Evansville, Indiana to anchor the French Quarter Piano Bar in an upscale Cajun restaurant, The River Bend, opened by a New Orleans chef and friend, Jimmy Chehardy. The Piano Bar was designed and built around Bob. While the restaurant has since closed due to structural problems, Bob has become a fixture in Evansville - with a regular following of several hundred ardent fans.

Parade Grand Marshal Jerad Eickhoff We are pleased to announce that Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher and 2009 Mater Dei High School Evansville graduate Jerad Eickhoff will be the Grand Marshal of the 96th Annual West Side Nut Club Fall Festival’s Main Parade. Eickhoff graduated from Mater Dei High School in Evansville, Indiana, and played college baseball at Olney Central College. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 46th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not sign and returned to Olney Central. In 2011, he was the Great Rivers Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year after going 10–4 with a 1.90 earned run average (ERA). Eickhoff was then drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft and signed. Eickhoff signed with the Rangers and made his professional debut with the Arizona League Rangers. He also played for the Spokane Indians that year. In 2012, he pitched for the Hickory Crawdads. Eickhoff started 2013 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and was promoted to the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders during the season. He returned to Frisco in 2014. On July 31, 2015, the Rangers traded Eickhoff, Nick Williams, Matt Harrison, Jake Thompson, Alec Asher, and Jorge Alfaro to the Philadelphia Phillies for Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman. He made his major league debut for the Phillies on August 21. In 2016 (his first full season with the Phillies), Eickhoff ended with a 3.65 ERA.
