Welcome

Dear Members, Wexford Briefly

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

I hope all of you are having a great start to the Fall — enjoying the wonderful amenities here at Wexford or wherever your travels may take you this season.

We have been busy working with the House and Social Committee to finalize some upcoming activities and events for the calendar. The Food and Beverage team has done a terrific job delivering on the current lineup of events. We are finalizing the club operations restructuring plan including finding a person to oversee the Pool/Aquatics area to ensure the safety of everyone enjoying and upholding the standards and rules/regulations.

The budgeting process is nearing the final stage after an extensive review by the Finance Committee for their examination and input for recommendations. The review and communication have been productive and insightful for all involved. Our goal is to be efficient in all areas of the Club while providing a very high-quality product that meets the brand standards and expectations.

I hope you will take the time to fill out the Member Survey being conducted by Club Benchmarking this month. The survey will be done electronically so please check your inbox for an invitation

to participate. This feedback will be important for the Board and Management in determining the membership satisfaction levels and desires. We will share the information later this year once the report is complete.

We are well underway with a host of tournaments and events and feel the Club is postured well to meet everyone’s expectations. Please complete the Amenities Plan ballot supporting the recommended improvements to Wexford. A positive vote will protect and strengthen the Club amenities as well as reflect Wexford’s commitment to keeping its assets in premier shape and top brand position in the market.

Kind regards and best, Craig

Letter from the Board President

Hello Neighbors,

October marks the third month of Craig Martin’s interim role as Wexford’s COO/GM. His presence and involvement in activities are highly visible and have had an exceptional, positive impact on our community. Our traditional Happy Hour events are upbeat and the Friday night tasting events have been a big hit. For that we are all very thankful!

We have just launched the Enhanced Amenities Plan vote and we encourage all members to participate. As announced in the September Board meeting, the Board’s view is that the bundled project (voting for both a new Yacht Club building and Clubhouse renovation) is the most cost effective and time efficient approach for the community; however, the ballot is constructed to give our members a choice to vote for one, both, or neither of the projects. The vote structure was recommended by the Amenities and Planning Committee in response to feedback received during member communication meetings. Regular communications on the plan will continue to be sent to the membership weekly throughout October until the vote concludes.

Candidates Happy Hour: A new event implemented by the Nominating Committee will be a Candidates Happy Hour on Thursday, October 27th. It will give all of us an opportunity to meet the 2023 Board candidates in a social environment to get to know them. This

will be followed by the annual “Meet the Candidates” event on Thursday, November 3rd, at which formal presentations will be made by each candidate along with a Q&A hosted by the Nominating Committee.

The October Board Meeting will include some important updates for our members. The meeting is Friday, October 21st, and will be available to attend in person or by Zoom. The agenda already includes, but will not be limited to, the following:

Golf Master Plan Update: Chris Neff, Director of Grounds and Greens, will update us on his recommendations for the next three years.

Strategic Plan: The Board will provide a checklist on accomplishments that have been achieved since the plan’s inception, and also communicate changes that have also been incorporated into the plan. Those changes will highlight some initiatives that been eliminated from the plan or have been updated.

GM Search: We’ll hear an update on the progress of this important search from our recruiter and Search Committee.

Harbor Wall Report: The Harbor Wall Task Force will present an updated report on findings from a recently completed engineering study and work done on the wall as reported by Dan Ogden at the September Board meeting.

Thanks for all you do to make Wexford the premiere place to live and work in Hilton Head!

Sincerely, Vince

The 2023 Board Election

In December, Wexford owners will be given the opportunity, and the responsibility, to elect three new Directors to replace Vince Sullivan, Sue MacCormack and Bill Busch, who are completing their threeyear terms on the Wexford Board.

Over the past three years, Vince,

Sue and Bill have given much of their time to serving on the Wexford Board and deserve our appreciation for their contribution to the Wexford community.

As you consider the candidates on this year’s ballot, we believe it is important that you do that in

VINCE SULLIVAN, PRESIDENT

After vacationing in Hilton Head since the late 80s with his family, Vince purchased his first Wexford property 1999 and current home in 2003. He moved here full-time in 2019 after semi-retiring from a business he co-founded in Dallas. He has two daughters and four grandchildren living in the Dallas area.

Vince spent his career in a segment of the materials handling industry. His company manufactured, installed, and serviced safety equipment and specialized doors for commercial and industrial customers and contractors. His career started in sales, moved into sales management, partner, and President of his company. Currently, he is President Emeritus and Director of Advisory Board for a servicebased company he co-founded in 2001, which has grown steadily to 30 locations and 850 employees.

Vince has an affinity for Wexford’s pristine and beautiful community, and is active in golf and pickleball. He joined the Board of Directors in 2020. In his first two years on the Board, he chaired the Infrastructure and Grounds and Greens committees both years. During that time, the Board navigated through the Covid pandemic, developed a 5-Year Strategic Plan (2021-25) and Golf Master Plan. Notable projects performed within the committees Vince chaired were constructing the pickleball amenity and the golf course irrigation system. He was elected to the Executive Committee as Vice President and President by the Board during his tenure.

“It was a pleasure working with fellow Board members and Wexford’s management team while performing this community responsibility,” said Vince.

a context of familiarity with the background, experience and roles of the outgoing Directors during their tenure. Hopefully, you will be able to use this information to help evaluate this year’s candidates and their qualifications from a more informed perspective.

SUE MACCORMACK, VICE PRESIDENT

Sue MacCormack spent her business career in a series of Finance & Operations roles ranging from public accounting to Chief Financial Officer of publicly traded and private technology companies. This path led to becoming a partner in a private equity firm specializing in the acquisition and building of high-growth middle-market healthcare service companies. In 2013, Sue retired and along with husband Bob moved fulltime to the Wexford home they built in 2009. Sue’s love for the Wexford community led quickly to involvement in Women’s golf, including as member and chair of the WWGA Board, member and chair of the Wexford Foundation Board of Trustees, and various committee roles.

Sue is completing her second term on Wexford’s Board, having served as a member of the Executive Committee in each year. She served four years as Treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee, and one year each as Secretary and Vice President; led and served on Board created task forces; chaired the House & Social Committee; and currently serves as chair of the Golf Committee. Sue helped to guide the community through challenging periods, including Hurricane Matthew and the COVID-19 pandemic, and was instrumental in formulating Wexford’s 2021-2025 Strategic Plan. She is grateful for the experience of working with her fellow Board members and the entire Wexford management team.

Nominating Committee Update

As we move closer to the 2023 Board election, please note the following opportunities for Wexford members to meet this year’s candidates whose names and bios will be emailed to members on Monday, October 24th. On October 27th, candidates will attend the Thursday Happy Hour starting at 6:00pm which will be an ideal opportunity

to meet the Candidates informally prior to the more formal “Meet the Candidates Forum” which will be held in the Clubhouse on Thursday, November 3rd, at 4:00pm. For those who cannot attend in person, this event will be available on Zoom and will be recorded for viewing after the event.

How to cast your ballot for the Amenities Plan

Voting for the Enhanced Amenities Plan will open the first week of October. The Board of Directors respectfully recommends for approval of the Harbour Center/Yacht Club and Clubhouse renovations as presented on the ballot. The special meeting to announce the voting results will be held on November 2, 2022 at 9:00am at the Clubhouse.

As a reminder, there is one vote allowed per property. Members can expect the following with online voting:

The Fried Egg: Plugged in a Bunker

Although we do not find this situation often, when it does happen, it can really derail a great round. Try these few tips to help you pop the ball out, and anywhere onto the putting surface is a fine shot.

1 2 3

1) Instead of setting the club face up open, like a normal bunker shot, you will want the blade of the club square. We are aiming to hit the sand two inches or so behind the ball.

2) On your takeaway, pick your hands up higher to create a much steeper angle of the club shaft.

UPCOMING EVENTS

3) From here, strong wrists and swing speed down into the sand are vital to blast into the sand and create enough speed for the ball to make its way onto the green. Remember, do not stop accelerating the club head and you will find yourself getting out of this situation with better success.

TENNIS & PICKLEBALL TIP:

Tennis & Pickleball

Improving your shots!

Tennis and Pickleball are both skill-based games which require players to continually seek lessons to get better. Without learning the correct fundamentals, it’s hard to grow as a player.

It is crucial players build the correct fundamentals in their game. This includes learning the right techniques, grips, stance, and state of mind to be able to play. Both tennis and pickleball requires players to be mentally and physically ready.

Most people don’t understand the difference between a clinic and a private lesson. We try to stress to everyone that clinics are for positioning, strategy, and teamwork. Private lessons are the time to fix all those shot errors.

Everyone must understand that we teach the SAME strategy to every level 2.5-4.5, but what a player does with the ball when they hit it is what makes them the level they are. In a clinic, one might hit 100 total balls compared to 750-1000 balls in a one-hour private lesson!

1st Annual King Mackerel Tournament held

It was a rainy day for the Captain’s Meeting but the consensus amongst the captains was to move forward with the tournament as scheduled.

In return for their perseverance, the six boats that left Wexford on the morning of Saturday, September 10th, were met with a gorgeous harvest moon on one horizon and an equally beautiful sunrise on the other, followed by as close to perfect of a day one could ask for. Unfortunately, no boat returned with the desired king mackerel. Boats captained by Team Etheridge and

Team Klein/Presley had some luck, landing some nice barracudas, while other captains couldn’t find a bite to save an otherwise great day.

Thanks to all who participated, and a reminder to all who chose not to due to “a lack of expertise” that a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work!

Complaints being received about violations

Throughout each week, Security is finding or receiving numerous calls for service regarding violations of the Wexford Covenants and Safety Rules and Regulations.

Our goal is to provide a constant and to ensure Wexford is a safe and secure environment for you to live inside of.

I have highlighted below some of the most common violations being reported in hopes that we can work together toward reducing these violations, along with the calls for service.

2. Access Pass Authorization

2.5 A Guest Pass cannot be requested for the purpose of providing any commercial work or commercial service within Wexford. This is a revenue budgeted item as identified in the covenants to help to provide funding to help offset the cost of repairs and improvements needed, due to the wear and tear being caused by commercial service.

6. Commercial Service Access

6.1 Commercial service is allowed to access Wexford, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is allowed on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. except for new builds, exterior renovations, and any service that requires the use of power equipment or use of other equipment that may be heard outside the home is prohibited as Saturday is quiet work only. This was put in place to ensure and allow for membership quiet time to enjoy the amenities and their home in a peaceful environment.

7. Delivery and Transportation Company Access

7.1 Security should be notified in advance whenever a food, pharmaceutical, florist, and other similar delivery services or private transportation companies are requested to enter Wexford.

This allows security to quickly issue the pass, so your delivery is completed in a timely manner. All non-membership entering Wexford must be granted by a member of Wexford.

9. Parking

9.1 In accordance with Section 503.2.1 of the International Fire Code, “Fire apparatus access roads shall have an unobstructed width of not less than 20-feet and an unobstructed vertical clearance of not less than 13 feet 6 inches”.

As the width of roadways developed in Wexford do not allow for proper clearance, vehicles are prohibited from parking on the roadway.

10. Operation of Motor Vehicles

10.4 The posted speed limit within Wexford is 24 Miles per hour unless otherwise posted and may be enforced using radar and other devices.

With the narrowness of our roadways, a mile or two over the posted speed limits seems more to those walking or riding along the roadways. So please slow down, stop at the posted stop signs, and take care in the operation of your motor vehicle, to ensure the safety of members and their guests.

11. Golf Cart

11.1 Any person operating a golf

cart in Wexford must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.

In past, children have been seriously hurt or killed while operating a golf cart as they lack the experience, knowledge, and fundamentals to operate on a roadway. So let us ensure their safety by having them adhere to this law.

16. Pets (Covenant 10.18)

Pets must be kept under leash control while on common property, which is a tethered type of device, which physically connects the animal to the handler. A pet owner is required to clean up and properly dispose of their pet’s waste.

This is a covenant, written help provide comfort and safety to not only the members walking in the area, but to keep your pet safe from running into the roadway or running along a waterway, which may have alligators who see your pet as a food source. Members and their guests are also required to clean up dog’s waste in common areas or anywhere within Wexford to help keep the community clean.

17. Wildlife

Alligators are protected and managed by the State of South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Feeding of an alligator is a violation of state law. By providing them with food, they see humans as a source, and places them in harm’s way. So, please do not feed them, and keep yourself at a safe distance, while around an alligator. If you are walking your pet, stay clear of our lagoons as this has caused to harm to the walkers and their pets in surrounding communities.

Wexford Foundation 10th Anniversary Celebration

On September 24th, the Wexford Foundation celebrated its 10th Anniversary with an elegant black-tie gala dinner attended by 130 Wexford owners.

A live auction, conducted by well-known local auctioneer Sonny Huntley, and raffle, featuring jewelry from Heritage Jewelers and a bourbon basket, combined to make a significant contribution to the Foundation’s 2022 fundraising efforts.

Introductions and appreciation for all who organized and attended this event were made by the Foundation Chair Fred Noonan and Jim Hicks, who started the Foundation in 2012. Mr. Hicks spoke about the early days and how through the support of so many generous Wexford owners, the Foundation has been able to donate over $2,000,000 to charities in the local area since its inception.
