This first issue introduces you to the vibrant team at our Cape Town DC, welcomes all the new faces in our company, highlights job promotions, and title and location changes, and offers a sneak peek into the Alchemy Accolades. It also shares exciting new projects by Weylandtstudio, some of our recent marketing communications and a recent collaboration with one of SA’s top creative talents. Enjoy the read.

MEET THE CAPE TOWN DC Our Cape Town distribution centre is where 78 Weylandts staff work. It’s a buzzing environment filled with passionate people who make it a dynamic place to be. We wanted to celebrate these employees through beautiful family-style portraits so that everyone working in our stores and head office can ‘meet’ the people who get our products to market. Our in-house creatives shot photos and a very upbeat video that capture the unique personalities in our DC teams. CONSIDERED INTERIOR DESIGN Besides its private-home projects, Weylandtstudio has been collaborating on some exciting hospitality and development projects, reaching a wider audience of people who appreciate good design.
HERMANUS HOME As you will have noticed in The Home Front’s previous pages, there has been a lot happening at Weylandtstudio, our interior design division. You’ll see some new faces, as well as team members taking on new roles and responsibilities. The studio is growing and has some exciting projects currently on the go. One of its commissions – a home in Hermanus – was recently completed, and demonstrates the immense talent and vision of our interior designers. This large family holiday home was designed in the style of a permanent residence, with a focus on entertaining. By sticking to a neutral palette and natural finishes, the triple-storey house maintains a strong connection between its spaces, with statement elements that stand out in every room – vibrant wallpaper, hand-cast tiles, custom countertops and unique pieces of furniture. Weylandtstudio worked closely with the architects in the design of the interiors, specifying all the finishes and undertaking the design of the bathrooms, kitchens and built-in joinery. The studio also saw to the window treatment, furniture selection and styling.

T H E R O S E BY S I G N AT U R A The Rose on 117 is the latest property development by Signatura – a striking eight-storey building situated between Cape Town’s vibrant suburbs of De Waterkant and Bo-Kaap. Its 61 apartments – with interiors designed and furnished by Weylandtstudio – are part of a multi-use property that includes a gym, restaurants, shops and a rooftop pool with showstopper views of the Mother City. This is the second collaboration between Signatura and Weylandtstudio, following on from The Flamingo in Sea Point. The relationship delivers exciting new buildings in Cape Town that offer very unique buying opportunities in the property market – whether for full-time living or as investments for short-term letting.

THE ALCHEMY ACCOLADES 2022 - 2023
Alchemy - a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation or combination.
We’re excited to introduce you to the Alchemy Accolades – our new awards initiative that celebrates excellence, rewards hard work and recognises a commitment to our brand values. Weylandts sales consultants are already vying to win one of our exciting Alchemy Accolades, hoping to walk away with the grand title of The Alchemist. This sales incentive gives you the chance to win incredible holidays, and winners will be announced at the end of March 2023. The Alchemist award is open to anyone who has been employed by Weylandts for more than six months. Consultants who have been employed for less than six months are entered into the Apprentice Accolade, with its own prizes. We’ve named it ‘alchemy’ because we recognise the magic in everything that we do as a business, and want to award those sales consultants who work with this ‘alchemy’ to deliver their best to Weylandts. Every time you offer your customers top-quality service, introduce a new client to our products or make a great sale, you’re one step closer to being The Alchemist.

TEXTURAL HONESTY
W I N T E R 20 22 STO R E R E VA M P Our stores have had a winter makeover inspired by the concept of ‘textural honesty’, and visitors are really enjoying the revamped seasonal experience. It’s loaded with natural textures that make our customers feel as if they’ve landed in a space that truly connects them to nature. The thatch entrance to our Green Point store (pictured here) gives you a little taste of what this winter look is about. We’ve created an environment for people to be comfortable and cosy. It feels authentic – like a genuine invitation to enjoy a serene, sensory visit to our store. We’re always proud of the work done by our visual merchandising teams. They set trends that are followed by others in the industry, and they inspire South Africans to reimagine their homes in wonderfully creative ways.

NEW FURNITURE INSPIRED BY R E C E N T T R AV E L S We’ve sent out a newsletter to our clients and newsletter subscribers, giving them a glimpse into Chris and Anna’s recent trip to Rajasthan, India. It includes a one-minute video capturing them on this exciting journey.
CHRIS & ANNA WE YL ANDT R A JASTHAN, INDIA 2022
Going forward, we want to show our clients more of our travels around the world so that they can better appreciate all the work that goes into developing our furniture and homeware.
Chris has been travelling to India for 20 years, and he and Anna are now collaborating with various Indian artisans to create a new collection of furniture that will soon be launching in our stores. It includes tables made with heritage doors that they found there – some are 200 years old! – as well as a sandstone range inspired by Jodhpur. We’re using India’s unique skills to craft these exceptional pieces, and are proud to show off the country’s traditions in metalwork and stonemasonry that has been passed down through generations.

I N PA RTN E RS H I P W ITH
C O L L A B O R AT I N G W I T H T R E V O R ST U U R M A N From mid-May to mid-June, we were part of a collaborative exhibition in Johannesburg, with South African photographer, stylist and creative director Trevor Stuurman, where our furniture featured in his solo show titled ‘A Place Called Home’. Trevor shot the ‘Hairitage’ range of photographs that are for sale in our stores, and the exhibition formed part of our continued journey with him, to tell his story through furniture and homeware. This show (which had Trevor creating a home environment very similar to his own, in an exhibition house in Parktown) allowed us to demonstrate how one’s personal choices and unique style help shape the environments in which we live.
Trevor Stuurman, Nicola Landau & Courtney Smith
Trevor is a Weylandts customer himself, and some of the items in the exhibition were pieces that he actually has in his own home. His story is an authentic tale of someone who has made a success of his life and now chooses to live with the most beautiful furniture in the country. Storytelling is going to be a big part of our Weylandts brand message going forward, and it is important that we celebrate design stories such as this.
