This month, we’ve got behind-the-scenes photos from a fun in-store fashion show, as well as the inspiration behind our upcoming summer revamp, a first glimpse of the latest Weylandtstudio project, insider info from the DC, and a whole lot more.

Soon we’ll be spring cleaning HQ too, as our head office staff relocate to different Weylandts branches in Cape Town, making our teams more efficient in the way they work. After seven years at Northgate, we’re excited to make this change that will connect employees more closely to our products and customers.
Spring is a time for new beginnings. We’ve already done a big spring clean with our recent Homeware Warehouse Sale at our Cape Town DC and Fourways (the queues were more insane than ever!), and we’ve currently got a 50% OFF EVERYTHING sale at Sandton, as we clear stock to close the shop at the end of the month.

RICARDO WAS PART OF OUR FAMILY SINCE HE STARTED AT WEYLANDTS IN 2007. HE LEFT IN 2018, BUT REJOINED OUR GREEN POINT STORE AS SENIOR SALES CONSULTANT IN 2019. “LEAVE ME OFF AND LET ME LOOSE” WAS RICARDO’S FAVOURITE SAYING. IT SUITED HIS ECLECTIC WARDROBE AND VERY UNIQUE WAY WITH CLIENTS. HE WAS ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE WHO COULD BE DIRECT WITH PEOPLE WITHOUT OFFENDING THEM – IN FACT, HIS HONEST APPROACH MADE CUSTOMERS LOVE HIM EVEN MORE! A small home in Vredehoek, Cape Town, received a spacious revamp thanks to the expertise of our Weylandtstudio team. They completely reimagined the property, maximising the space to create open-plan concepts that facilitate flow and establish a distinct aesthetic.
We love the dark and moody interiors they created – balanced by an abundance of natural light. They cleverly combined the bedroom and bathroom to design a sanctuary that feels cocooned in its new layout. The building’s original wooden floors, now stained black, add an element of heritage that allows the layers of newness to feel like they have always belonged. OF A VREDEHOEK HOME
THE TRANSFORMATION
The engineered stone in the kitchen makes a very strong statement in the home, with natural tones that are carried through other elements in the home – from the ceramics and furniture to the light shades and carpets.

At Weylandts, furniture design is a very hands-on process. That’s why the overseas trips that Chris, Anna and Nic from the Furniture Department have undertaken this year have been vital to the development of some of the new products you’ll soon see in store.

Knowing that international borders were opening up, they started planning trips to visit suppliers in the East for the first time since lockdown, to see their prototypes in the flesh.
In November last year, the team began designing the Summer 2022/2023 collection.
In March, Chris and Anna travelled to India; and in May Nic joined them in Indonesia. In India, it was all about selecting antique doors to turn into tabletops, developing coffee tables out of found pieces discovered in a marble workshop, and the adventurous exploration of sandstone quarries. In Indonesia, there was constant debate around the perfect balance between comfort and ‘schlumpf’ for sofas, and the precision of seat-weaving for our new Lamu range.
The 38-degree heat in the open-air workshops in Ho Chi Minh City never deterred our three die-hards from their mission to deliver the best products for our customers.

HOMEWARE KNOWS HOW TO MOVE
Over the next two months, the DC Homeware Department will be relocating to Unit 3. It was only a year ago, during its peak season, that it moved from the old DC into a temporary satellite warehouse (Unit 5), linked to the Sofa DC. This move included an overhaul on the team’s racking bin system. It’s resulted in much more accuracy in picking and packing, which has led to greater efficiency for stores and customers. The new move will allow this department to function even more fluidly, and we look forward to this bigger permanent space.

Things are hotting up in our new DC building. The Sofa Furniture Department is already moving in! Stock is being allocated into categories and dedicated bins are being installed to make the packing and picking process much easier for this team. It’s an exciting time as we make this new building our bustling home. DEPARTMENT IS

It was an exciting day in the warehouse when Goscor delivered our third Crown order picker last month. This magnificent machine is already performing wonders! The Crown brand is known for its fatiguereducing comfort, phenomenal driving performance and ability to reduce and simplify operators’ movements. PICKER CAUSES A

We’ve partnered with some great local clothing brands who match our aesthetic. Beagle and Basset, Hannah Lavery, Sweet Peas and Titch are all offering Weylandts staff great discounts on their products so that we can incorporate these pieces into our work wardrobes.
First impressions count, and the way we dress gives customers an understanding of what our brand signifies. We want clients to feel comfortable in our stores by seeing us as an extension of the brand they know and trust.
On Saturday 27 August, we held a fashion show at our Green Point store for all Cape Town retail staff. It was a fun way to offer in-store wardrobe guidelines that encourage cohesion in our look and feel. Our very own models paraded these styles in the store, in what proved to be a jolly after-hours event, with Maison wine flowing all afternoon.
