Following the Wilson Centre Service, veterans and members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #133 will lead a parade from the Wilson Centre along Wilson Avenue to Shaughnessy Street to the Cenotaph services at Veterans Park. CENOTAPH REMEMBRANCE SERVICE

Wednesday, November 11th @ 11:00AM Veterans Park – 2580 Shaughnessy Street Outdoor service with limited seating reserved for veterans. This is an outdoor service. Seating is limited and reserved for the veterans in attendance. Those attending the Cenotaph Remembrance Day Service are encouraged to dress warmly and to bring an umbrella in the event of rain.

Directly after the services and after the Pipe Band and Colour Party have entered the premises, the Legion will open to the public. The Port Coquitlam Legion now also welcomes families with children. Minors are welcome until kitchen closure in the evening"

POPPIES:

Why do we wear the red poppies for Remembrance Day? We wear poppies to remember those who have fought for us and those who gave their lives for us and for those who are currently protecting our freedom. Where do the funds raised by the Poppy Campaign go? They are distributed a number of ways: 1. Assistance to ex-service personnel and their dependents 2. Low rental housing and care facilities for elderly or disabled persons and their dependents 3. Community medical appliances and medical research 4. Day care centres, meals-on-wheels, transportation and related services 5. Cost of poppies, wreaths and supplies

Operation Red Nose is a volunteer driving service provided during the Christmas Holiday Season to any drivers who have been drinking or who do not feel fit to drive their own vehicle back home. it is a unique and responsible way of getting a safe ride in their own vehicle without driving it themselves! the only requirement is that the client must have a vehicle at the time of his call. in other words: no vehicle, no service. operation red nose is not a taxi service. the client is driven in his own vehicle

and never in the vehicle of the operation red nose volunteers. other passengers may also ride in the client’s vehicle (just as long as there are enough seat belts) and will be dropped off before the owner’s car is taken to the requested destination. the service is confidential and the volunteers commit to be discreet by signing a form in which they agree not to give any details that could help identify a client.

While the service is technically free, donations are encouraged and go to KidSport to subsidize sport registration fees for low-income kids.

PoRT CoquITLAM BuSINESS IMPRoVEMENT ASSoCIATIoN In August of this year, the Downtown Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association (BIA) welcomed Susanna Walden as their new Executive Director. Having previously worked for the New View Society, the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce and Retail BC, Susanna brings with her extensive experience in member services and community engagement. She is excited to join the BIA at time of redevelopment. With the City’s new recreation centre scheduled for construction and a recent announcement for the Downtown Action Plan, she’s looking forward to collaborating with the 300 + businesses within the BIA to increase awareness and economic activity in the downtown. “There’s a heart and a pulse to this downtown that I don’t see anywhere else. It’s truly a unique place with such tremendous potential. I want to support our

businesses so they can prosper. I also want to invite anyone looking to open a new business or wanting to relocate an existing business to explore what we have to offer. Let’s have a coffee and a conversation. My door is open!” The Downtown Poco BIA is a non-profit society dedicated to promoting the interests of the property owners and licensed businesses within its boundaries. The BIA works to encourage local shopping, implement programs, develop partnerships, while advocating and providing a collective voice for the business community.
