FRIDAY DECEMBER 20TH, 7PM SATURDAY DECEMBER 21ST, 2PM AND 7PM Central Heights Church: 1661 McCallum Rd, Abbotsford Tickets available at House of James, King’s Music and Eventbrite
This popular highlight of the Christmas season features a variety of musical favourites and collaboration between the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra, the Pacific Mennonite Children’s Choir, the Alumni Project, the MEI Pep Band, and a variety of dancers, singers and instrumentalists, including harpist Olivia Ritchie from Canmore, Alberta. Produced by Calvin Dyck, the theme of this year’s show is a quote from the English mystic Julian of Norwich. The mystic had a vision of Jesus saying, “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well”. Besides costuming in white, and the use of Central Heights’ newly renovated auditorium, the show will feature exquisite music such as “The Snow” by Edward Elgar, “All is Well” by Michael W. Smith, “Mary Did You Know”, and “I Heard the Bells”. Don’t miss this annual tradition in Abbotsford. Tickets available at House of James, King’s Music or on-line at EventBrite. Christmas Breakfast?
Toys For Tots is a fun, family event that kicks off the Christmas season with the true spirit of the season - giving to children in need. On November 22nd, from 6 am - 9:30 am, the community is invited to bring a new toy for any age, or a monetary donation to the event. Stay for a delicious hot breakfast, craft, photo b booth, a visit with Santa, live Christmas carols and local entertainment. Including MEI Chamber Choir, Coalmont & Ever After Princesses.
““e event has quickly become a
family tradition”
Last year, an estimated 2,000 people stopped by with gifts and donations, raising $60,000 and 2,757 toys. With the success of this event, the Abbotsford Christmas Bureau was able to feed and give gifts to 1,672 children in Abbotsford. Toys for Tots started 7 years ago in hopes of keeping the shelves at the Abbotsford Christmas Bureau and Food Bank stocked every year. We had been seeing an increase of families needing services at Christmas. Our heart is to be able

Abbotsford Children’s Theatre Friday, December 13th at 7 pm Saturday, December 14th at 1 pm Matsqui Centennial Auditorium What does time and the world do to someone whose heart grew three sizes in one day? Abbotsford Children’s Theatre (ACT) examines this question in “The Grinch Project 3.0” a play that was first produced in 2004 and has been reworked for this year’s production. The Grinch Project 3.0 finds the “Abbyville” community in a very different mood than you might remember from the original story. The “Hoos” are behaving selfishly and Christmas isn’t special anymore! Mean old Mr. Grinch once tried to steal Christmas, but now it’s up to him to remind the “Hoos” that Christmas is about the simple things – decorating a tree, a few gifts underneath it, and a hot mug of cocoa with family. Come see the “Hoos”, a troop of singing candy canes, a colourful town council, and your favourite green villain who’s now a hero! Join Abbotsford Children’s Theatre and support young theatrical talent in our community. The cast of 39 energetic and vibrant young actors aged 10 - 17 will entertain and delight audiences of all ages. Tickets are $12 in advance and $14 at the door. Cooking with
Sugar Cookies & Frosting Recipes Sugar Cookies
Sugar Cookie Frosting
What you will need for Sugar Cookies:
What you will need for Frosting:
• 1 egg • 1 tsp vanilla • 1 cup salted butter • 3 cups all purpose flour • 1 cup granulated sugar • 2 tsp baking powder
• 1/4 cup butter, room temperature • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening • 3 cups powdered sugar • 2 tsp vanilla extract • 1 1/2 tbsp milk
What you will do: Use stand mixer OR an electric hand mixer. Cream the butter and sugar together (approx. 2 mins). Add the egg, vanilla, flour and baking powder. Mix until the dough comes together. (Consistency as play-doh). Too dry? Add a bit of water. Too wet? Add some flour. Roll out the dough on a floured surface about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut with different shaped cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheet. Put in oven (325 ° F) and take them out of the oven after approximately 12-15 minutes. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack.
What you will do: Combine all ingredients in the bowl of a mixer. Whip until well combined. You can add more powdered sugar or milk to get the frosting to the consistency you like. Put smaller portions into small containers and add different food coloring to each container. Mix well. Now you are ready to decorate your Sugar Cookies! Have FUN!

Apple Strudel
A Festive Favourite
Ingredients 6 cups / 750g /1lb 10oz Bramley apples, peeled, cored, quartered and sliced 1½ tsp ground cinnamon ½ unwaxed lemon, zest only 2 tsp lemon juice 100g/3½oz golden caster/baking sugar 2/3 cups / 75g / 2½oz raisins 1/2 cup / 95g / 3½oz butter 1/3cup / 40g / 1½oz white breadcrumbs 6 large sheets filo pastry 1 tbsp icing sugar
Preparation time: 20 mins Cooking time: 40-45 mins Serves: 6-8
Method Preheat the oven to 375F / Gas 5. Line a baking tray with baking parchment. Mix the quartered apples with the cinnamon, lemon zest and juice, sugar and raisins. In a small frying pan, melt 1/8 cup / 20g / ¾oz butter and fry the breadcrumbs until goldenbrown, then add these to the apple mixture. Melt the remaining butter in a pan. On a clean, dry tea-towel lay a sheet of the filo and brush with some of the melted butter. Lay another sheet on top and repeat until you have used all the filo. Layering the pastry with the melted butter helps to create flaky layers. Place the filling along the length of the pastry along one side about 1 inch / 2-3cm from the edge. Using the tea-towel to help you, roll the pastry up to enclose the filling. Tuck the ends in and roll the strudel seam-side down onto the lined baking sheet. Brush with the remaining melted butter. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden-brown. Leave to cool to room temperature and dust with icing sugar. Slice and serve with cream, ice cream or custard.
