New Year fr

! n O s ’ t om W ha
For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice. T.S. Eliot
To start the New Year off right we wanted to share some of our favorite quotes! May it hold all good things for you and those you love! We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives ... not looking for flaws but for potential. Ellen Goodman
It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves. William Shakespeare And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been. Rainer Maria Rilke
You are never too old to reinvent yourself. Steve Harvey
What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year. Vern McLellan
It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves. William Shakespeare
Take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous new year by believing. Sarah Ban Breathnach

FENG SHUI Your Way to Success For 2020
January is a time of reflection and planting the seeds for our business growth, for 2020. What seeds do you want to plant for your business this year? Is it your desire to double your income? Attract more clients? Whatever it is, Feng Shui can show you the way. Feng Shui (pronounced fung – shway), is an ancient art that governs the flow of energy, which is constantly changing and flowing around us. Creating good energy flow in your home office can help you attract more success this year. What do I mean by this? It is called, ‘Unconscious Clutter.’ It is the unseen stagnant energy that can stop the flow of good energy for success in your business. Here is a simple exercise.
Take out a yellow sticky note pad and walk around your office with this thought in mind, “Does this bring me joy?” Put a sticky note on anything that you don’t like. This can be anything from the colour of your walls, to an ugly garbage can. Go deeper.
“Does this bring me joy?”
Are there outdated magazines lying around, or old emails stuck in your inbox? When you are finished the exercise, stand back. How many sticky notes are blocking the good energy flow? Get the picture? This 2020, Feng Shui your ‘unconscious clutter’, so success can flow your way. Kim Louise Easterbrook is an Interior Space Consultant, Feng Shui Practitioner, and Author. She helps home based business owner’s restyle and Feng Shui their home office to align with their business to achieve greater success.

ASK A LOCAL REALTOR®
How does my BC Assessment reflect the current market value of my home? Happy New Year! It is that time of year again. BC property owners are receiving their 2020 BC Assessments in the mail and asking the big question. Is this what my home is worth? If you have ever bought, sold or mortgaged a home in British Columbia, you may have noticed a discrepancy between the value on the BC Assessment and the value quoted by a real estate professional. It is very common to see a number that is either higher or lower than the value on the government assessment. The main reason for this variance is that a real estate agent or assessor will be looking at the market value. The market value is is the amount that a current buyer is willing to pay to purchase your property. The real estate market is the biggest influence on this value and is always changing. Your BC Assessment however will reflect the value of your home as of July 1 of the prior year. Your 2020 BC Assessment is based on the approximate market value of your home as of July 1, 2019. A lot can change in the real estate market and even the characteristics of your neighbourhood in six to eighteen
Please feel free to contact me with your real estate questions or to receive a market analysis of your home at no charge.

months. You may have also made improvements within your home or property that have not been taken into account on the BC Assessment. In short, the BC Assessment will much more closely reflect the market value from the previous year than your home’s current market value. As you can imagine it takes a great amount of time and resources to collect data on every property in British Columbia and it is not feasible to update the BC Assessment with real time adjustments. You can get more information on the assessment criteria used by BC Assessment at info. bcassessment.ca . For a current market analysis of your home, contact a real estate agent or hire a professional real estate assessor.

GET OUTDOORS THIS WINTER!
The colder, and wetter, winter weather does not have to mean curtailment of your outdoor activities. You can dress for the weather and enjoy the beautiful area we live in all year long. The Ridge Meadows Outdoor Club continues with weekly activities through the winter months. Every Monday there is a short three hour hike in the UBC Malcom Knapp Research Forest and on Wednesdays we enjoy local hikes that are a little longer. Weekends can provide the opportunity to get a little farther from the city and play in the snow. Whistler, Callaghan Valley the North Shore Mountains and Manning Park ark are all a reasonable drive from the city. Snowshoeing, cross country skiing and downhill skiing are a great workout in a wonderful winter setting. The club also has an annual winter campout for the real die-hards. Our experienced members are always glad to share their wisdom about clothing and equipment. In winter you will want to layer: a wicking layer close to the skin, then a warm layer and a waterproof layer on top. Add some waterproof hiking boots and some gaiters to keep your feet dry. We always welcome new members. For more information please visit our website at rmoutdoorclub.ca or call our president Pete Fairbrother at 604.462-849

Ami’s
Review
When I first picked up Her One Mistake, by Heidi Perks, I was on the hunt for a good, suspenseful read that would keep my interest. Life has been busy lately, and I couldn’t afford to waste my time on a book that had a slow start, or one that would require too much work to get through. I wasn’t disappointed. Her One Mistake is about Charlotte and Harriet: women, mothers, and friends.
It’s a mother’s worst nightmare, and one that affects both these women differently. Harriet is in the throes of grief, while Charlotte is wracked by unbearable guilt. Their friendship, which was once so pivotal to them both, is now shattered. In alternating points of view, Charlotte and Harriet each tell their own story as it circles around the vanishing of a little girl. As in any good suspense story, the devil is in the details – little details that unfold on both sides, details which had me questioning and looking for clues that I could tie together. As I read on (ignoring my lovely children and my housecleaning), it became clear that something wasn’t right. Someone wasn’t telling the whole truth, and, clever me, I thought I knew who it was.
Harriet is devoted mom to fouryear old Alice, so devoted in fact, that she’s never left Alice in the care of another person before. Charlotte, her best friend, is mom of three and the opposite of Harriet in many ways. Social, carefree, divorced, Charlotte may not parent the way Harriet does, but she is Harriet’s only friend, and so when Harriet decides to take a book keeping course, Charlotte is the only option for watching little Alice.
And then…
It should be fine, right? But of course, that wouldn’t make a very good story. While in Charlotte’s care that day, Alice disappears.
A revelation so unexpected I couldn’t believe it. This was the moment I had to lower my book and whisper, Whaaat? Don’t worry though; I’m not going to give you any spoilers. You’ll just have to trust me and come into Totally Book-ish for your own copy of Her One Mistake.
Ami’s star rating 4.5 stars Ami is a writer, reader, and the owner of Mission’s new bookstore, Totally Book-ish. She and her staff would love to help you find your next reading adventure!
