Rob and Lisa Brandsma on stage!
Fraser Valley Women’s Expo Chilliwack Heritage Park See pages 2 & 9
Forever Home...
Rob and Lisa Brandsma, and their three kids live on a small hobby farm in beautiful, Abbotsford B.C. They founded Brandsmas Renos & Design, in 2010, to fill their passion for home renovations. They have flipped a number of homes, and moved multiple times: always looking for potential to better every property. Rob is an expert in renovations, and he and his team can tackle any project. Tiger Lily Home is Lisa’s furniture and home decor business. She finds one of a kind pieces that need a little love. She then fixes, restores, and paints the life back into them. She can often be found selling her treasures at vintage markets, and recently hosted her own Christmas market “Sleigh-bells Ring.” Their two companies took center stage this past Spring, when their pilot episode “Forever Home,” aired on HGTV Canada. They were approached by a production company, looking for a couple to host a renovation show that they were hoping to pitch to HGTV. Rob and Lisa were up for the challenge, and HGTV put together a team to shoot a pilot episode. It featured Rob and his renovation company, completely transforming a home in Abbotsford. Lisa created a custom piece for the show, and took over the design aspects for the renovation. It was an amazing reveal! It was aired in March, and again in June of 2016. Unfortunately, the pilot was not picked up for more episodes, but this is not the last time you will see this dynamic duo! They will be here on stage at the Fraser Valley Women’s Expo, demonstrating a DIY project that you can recreate at home! They will also be talking about the latest trends in home decor, and will have a Q&A session for all of your home renovation questions.

Cottonwood 4 Cinemas in Chilliwack is, and always has been, a family run business. Since they first opened the doors in 1995, Cottonwood 4 Cinemas has always been a great destination. In addition to being a huge part of many first date memories, this cinema is also known as the local spot for AFFORDABLE FAMILY FUN! With affordable admission prices, you really can take the whole gang without breaking the bank! Mother and daughter team Cathy and Pauline purchased the theatre from the original owners 7 years ago. Since Cathy had been their bookkeeper for a number of years before the cinema was put up for sale, she jumped at the opportunity to keep it a family business. Now it is run by Mom and daughter with grand-daughter and grandson working their way through university and school. 12
The theater has seen some upgrades since Cathy and Pauline unlocked the doors. The first big change was to add a 3D screen! The following year they learned that 35mm film was going to be discontinued, so the next big upgrade was the installation of 4 digital projectors....no more film to build or to get jammed during a show or, the biggest nightmare, to get dropped and tangled!! Now all the movies can be controlled via a laptop from the box office! The latest addition to the upgrade list is the seats! Last year, the decision to replace the seats was made. This was done in August and the staff were all happy to join in and work at the project! The old original cloth seats were removed, the ceiling lighting upgraded and the floors scrubbed! Then the fun part....installing of the new seats! To make it more comfortable for everyone, the spacing between rows was increased making it so much easier to access your seat.
The seats are washable and are all washed on a weekly basis keeping them sparkly clean! Before getting comfortable in your seat, once the tickets are purchased, it’s time to head to the concession! Here you can find a selection of goodies including the most popular addition of Mini Donuts, freshly squeezed lemonade, tea, coffee as well as freshly made popcorn, of course! There are many combos and Cathy and Pauline carefully went over the whole menu to keep pricing as low as possible while creating a menu based on movie theatre favourites and customer requests. They both love working the box office and interacting with the people coming into the theatre. With over 400 seats in the building, they love getting to get to know all the different guests coming into a see a movie, if only for a few minutes!
To advertise call 604-217-6613 or e-mail whatsonsardis@gmail.com
The pricing for this theatre is very reasonable... Adults $6 Children under 12 and Seniors $5 Matinees (any show before 6pm) are $4.50 and all shows for everyone on Tuesday are just $2! If the movie of choice is presented in 3D, there is an additional charge of $2 per person.
is always a super popular event! Rocky Horror Picture Show always arrives around Halloween and the participation of guests and staff makes for a super crazy, fun filled night!
Our website is www.cottonwood4cinemas. ca and we are also on Facebook. For theatre booking including birthday parties and pre-show advertising, please contact Cathy 604 316 3974 and all other enquiries please contact Pauline at 604 316 4434.
Thankful for their community, Cathy and Pauline are always looking for ways to give back. The Agassiz RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance to locate the custodian of military service medals found near the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge. The medals were provided to police by a member of the public who found a small box containing the items on July 28, 2016. The police investigation has led to the identification of the recipients, however, RCMP investigators have not been able to determine who presently owns the medals. “The medals reach back to a time when the Dominion of Canada was forging an identity as a Nation within the British Empire,” says Corporal Mike Rail, spokesperson of the UFVRD,” We feel the medals could be valuable family heirlooms and are reaching out to the public to assist us in returning them to those family’s”. Anyone with information to aide police in the return of the medals to their current owner(s) is urged to contact the Agassiz RCMP at 604796-2211. *Agassiz Legion has guardianship held in trust of the medals*
