WITH KYMM

Q: Iʼm losing a lot of hair, am I thinning/going bald? A: I get this question a lot. Now keep in mind, we lose 75-150 hairs a day, and the more you have the more you lose, so you canʼt judge it by the hairs in your brush or drain. One day you may see more than another, but was your hair in a ponytail all day? So the hairs that would normally shed and fall have been stuck and have finally fallen in your brush/shower. Some thing else to think about is stress. When we go through a tough, stressful time, we unknowingly temporarily lose hair. Similar with postpartum hair loss, unfortunately our bodies shed a lot of hair a few months after childbirth, but thankfully that grows back. Sometimes our hormones are out of whack and maybe our bodies are deficient in some vital nutrients. It may be worth picking up some vitamins with b12s and collagen to help thicken it up.. always consult your Dr! One way that our brain tricks us into thinking our hair is thinning is with how our hair looks as our colours grow out. Is your coloured hair darker than your natural hair growing in? The contrast of dark to light plays an optical illusion and makes us think our hair is thinner growing in. Itʼs not. But consider going lighter, even by one level, and having the darker colour grow in, that will change the illusion! Lastly, if you are losing patches of hair, you should speak to your doctor, as that may be a sign of alopecia. Q:How often should I wash my hair? A: We have natural oils on our scalps, and washing every day will continuously remove these and leave our hair dry and dull. Our scalp replenishes those lost oils but that results in greasy, oily hair! Washing daily could cause your colour to fade a lot faster as well, and could lead to more heat damage as you are then drying and styling it every day. On day 2, try just rinsing and applying conditioner to the ends. A great trick is to use a dry shampoo on fresh clean hair to soak up any oils that may appear, and that will help give volume and texture.
