Valentine’s Day is a big deal for most Women, so whatever you have planned for February 14th this year, be sure to make it memorable. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune or be especially elaborate, but making her feel special is essential.
BECAUSE LOVE ISN’T QUITE COMPLICATED ENOUGH AS IT IS.
Couples in love have a penchant for display of affection. Their actions can draw stares, gaping mouths, and in some cases, police intervention. A married couple are well suited when both partners usually feel the need for a quarrel at the same time. Married couples resemble a pair of scissors, often moving in opposite directions, yet punishing anyone who gets in between them.Ideally, couples need three lives; one for for her, one for him and one for them together.
Here are some date ideas that are sure to please this Valentine’s. There’s a good chance that the beginning of your relationship was the time when you made the most effort to show her your romantic side, so why not turn back the clock and remind her how charming you were when you were wooing her? Women love it when men remember details from when they were still getting to know each other. Think back to your first date, and take her to the same place, eat the same food and do the same things that first sparked your romance. Go for some physical fun...cross-
country skiing, or spend some time together in an intimate indoor swimming pool, there are several motels around town that offer a drop in on their pools. The idea is to enjoy a little activity and get those endorphins flowing. Massage is a must-do activity for Valentine’s Day. You can either treat her to a full-body, sensual massage with scented (and even edible) oils or lotions, or give yourself a little pampering and book a couple’s massage at a spa. Anticipation is half the fun of a romantic surprise. Start the excitement when she walks in the door by leaving a trail of rose petals leading to the bedroom, where she’ll find Valentine’s Day gifts. Feel free to go all out with the heart-shaped box of chocolates, redand-white teddy bears and candy hearts. She’ll love the corny romance of it all. Sometimes the best Valentine’s Day gift you can give is the gift of uninterrupted time together. You don’t need to leave the house to make Valentine’s Day special. Think of how great it could be to spend the entire day in bed together. Turn off your phones, don’t answer the door, watch movies, or even have a picnic in bed just enjoy each other.
In Love..Broke..Short of Ideas. Here are some quick fixes that will get you off the hook and leave you looking like the ultimate lover that will send the tongues wagging. Guys...You know she loves jewellery ... so find yourself a, “nut’.. now, now keep it clean, Iam talking about a nut and bolt. If she is the type of girl that
11
likes to wear charms on her bracelet, earrings or necklace, you can quickly turn a man tool into a love tool. Break out your Dremel engraver tool, pick up your nut and start engraving your love message into that trusty bolt, she will want to wear it everywhere she goes to show off her super romantic man. Girls.... the truth is men love to cook, so give them a secret ingredient that they know you love, and suggest to them to make you something irresistible that will leave you begging for more. .... note the operative word “SUGGEST” thats right, thats how it works, men work so much better when they know they are on the right track.....the rest will be amazing. Guys & Girls.. To add a little spice and adventure that will leave you both talking about it for years to come....Yup we are heading outside, in February. Pack a picnic basket, his favourites, her favourites. A big thick blanket, enough things to light a fire that will burn just enough to glow for a long time. Tasty but simple food.... don’t forget the massage oil... and the sweets. Now the challenge is to wear the least amount of clothing you can and keep each other warm, rain, hail or snow....!! No coming home until midnight. Written by the Whats On Digest Love Phantoms..

health Food for Thought: Your Authentic Self LOVE THE ELIXIR OF LIFE
When last did you jump out of bed with the enthusiasm of a child? All that impairs our ability to do this is the effect of time. The joyfully enthusiastic child within us all has retreated more and more with each blow that life has offered. So now we place conditions on love before we give it and keep ourselves guarded until all these conditions are met. Our abdomen tenses in a defensive stance and can no longer erupt with belly giggles. We now believe that we are protected from all that which is not true love; but love obeys the natural laws of our planet: for every action there is an equal and apposing reaction. Simply put, you only get as much love as you are willing to give. This brings me to the health benefits of love and happiness. • Love makes you smarter because falling in love releases a hormone-like substance which helps to restore the nervous system and improves memory by triggering the growth of new brain cells. Love helps fight cancer because being in love increases desirable white blood cells Research shows that loving acts neutralise the kind of negative emotions that adversely affect immune,
endocrine and cardiovascular function. The brain becomes “fired up” when talking to someone it finds attractive and sends impulses to the heart making it pound three times faster than normal. This results in increased blood supply to the body, specifically the cheeks and sexual organs. Studies have indicated that a lack of love, causing social isolation, increases the risk of early death by up to five times. The endorphins produced by the body when in love increase blood flow to the skin, which helps keep it soft and smooth, and reduce the development of wrinkles. Love makes you happy and happy people have younger hearts, younger arteries, and a younger RealAge. Happy people recover more quickly from surgery, cope better with pain, have lower blood pressure, and have longer life expectancy than unhappy people. Remember that no one can give or take love from you; you can only be in love.. Greet everyone with an open heart and a smile. Make your New Year resolution to love your way back to health, happiness and peace. ……………. Gary Freedom Yoga, Courtenay.

Paths to well-being Let go of …… Stop doing anything that is a waste of time, is not fulfilling or helpful. Smile…… Smiling changes your mood (and often the mood of the person sitting across from you!), relieves stress and boosts your immune system. Show kindness…. Kindness can bring a sense of richness and fulfillment to our lives, and as a bonus, promote good health . Surround yourself with kind, happy, and positive thinking people… Seek the company of those who do not drain you of your energy and passion. Get motivated….. Exercise regularly and don’t allow yourself to make excuses for not doing it.
Pay attention to what you are eating……. The food we eat has a tremendous impact not only on our physical health but also on our emotional health and well-being. Disengage from mindless eating . Drink more water…….. Drinking plenty of purified water has tremendous benefits on your digestive health and heart health. Also keep in mind that if you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated! This can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, dizziness and other unpleasant symptoms. Meditate...... Meditation is a most powerful stress management and wellness tool! Studies of meditation have shown reduced stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, improved health, and vitality. Make it part of your daily routine. STUART MCLEAN AND THE VINYL CAFÉ – 7pm Stuart McLean is known as “Canada’s favourite storyteller” and after accomplis hments in 2012, it’s not difficult to see why: last year was a landmark year for the best selling author. His hit radio show The Vinyl Cafe is now heard by 1.3 million people each week. The show is broadcast on CBC Radio in Canada, on close to 100 public radio stations in Tix $52
A Candid Interview with Stuart Mclean Whats On Digest: You are a best-selling author and famous broadcaster. You have been referred to in the media as “Canada’s Greatest Storyteller”. What do you think it is about hearing a story that we as human beings find so compelling? McLean: I think we’ve wanted to hear stories since we were living in caves. It’s a way of understanding the world around us and the world inside of us. You feel a connection to the world and to life – your inner self and outer self and on all sorts of levels. It’s how we relate to the world. The great leaders are great story tellers for example Winston Churchill was a great story teller. People believed him and came together en masse to rally around a cause. We tell ourselves stories about love and about failure and we fell reassured by hearing them. Whats On Digest: What does Stuart Mclean do for fun? McLean: I like to go to bookstores I like to cook. I like to wander around, write to my friends. I like to read. Whats On Digest: You are performing your show in Nanaimo and Campbell River in the near future; to some extent Vancouver Island has a regional identity distinct from other areas of the country, and yet, your stories seem to resonate with those of us calling Vancouver Island our home equally with Canadians in other parts of the country. There is a common humanity present in your work that tends to unite people. What do you say to that?
Mclean: You say that but I couldn’t say that (laughs). I have spoken to people listening in one part of the country that tell me about a friend or relative that listens in another part of the country and how they like to talk on the phone after the show about their favorite part. I see grandparents in the audience with several generations of their families listening and enjoying the show. I just love to see everyone “digging” the same story. It makes me happy makes me feel like I’m doing something right….even if I have no idea what that is. Whats On Digest: As a successful author and radio personality your position is enviable and I can imagine that to some the success you’ve had may seem unattainable. What advice can you offer to anyone reading this in terms of following your dreams? McLean: Follow ‘em. Follow ‘em. Do it. I wanted to be a writer on the radio and was afraid of that – I was as afraid of success as much as I was afraid of failure. I was lucky to get a job on the radio and lucky because it’s what I love. You don’t have to be smart – there are plenty of geniuses wasting away in the basements of this country. You don’t have to be a handsome, athletic, or intelligent person – you just have to be a focused person and keep at it. Nothing else matters, not looks or brains or how many connections you have if you can’t stick with it. It takes effort and commitment - you have to do it – that’s all. Magician and Parrot A magician was working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The audience would be different each week, so the magician allowed himself to do the same tricks over and over again. There was only one problem: The captain’s parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician did every trick. Once he understood he started shouting in the middle of the show: “Look, it’s not the same hat” “Look, he is hiding the flowers under the table” “Hey, why are
of the month all the cards the Ace of Spades ?” The magician was furious but couldn’t do anything; it was, after all, the captain’s parrot. One day the ship had an accident and sank. The magician found himself on a piece of wood in the middle of the ocean with the parrot, of course. They stared at each other with hate, but did not utter a word. This went on for a day and another and another. After a week the parrot said: “OK, I give up. Where’s the boat?”
