Recreational and Occupational Injuries According to Statistics Canada, injury due to sport and recreational involvement is second in frequency only to motor vehicle accidents. Both serious and recreational athletes alike sometimes push their bodies too hard in an attempt to become healthier, stronger, faster, or more agile. While regular exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, weekend warrior activities, extreme sports, and lack of stretching can increase our risk of injuries. Sports injuries are most commonly caused by poor training methods; structural abnormalities; weakness in muscles, tendons, ligaments, or overuse. Everyone’s bone architecture is a little different, and almost all of us have one or two weak points where the arrangement of bone and muscle leaves us prone to injury, more commonly injuries to the ankles, legs, knees, wrists and hips. Overuse injuries are caused by repeated, microscopic injuries to a part of the body. Both sport and repetitive occupational use will lead to common injuries such as Tendonitis, Epicondylitis and Carpal tunnel. Using proper fitting wraps and braces to support weakness or over used muscles and tendons can add back years . It is important to be properly fitted by someone that is qualified to understand the injury or weakness and knows how to apply the right brace or wrap effectively.

At Willow Pt Wines turning your fruit into great wine is what they do best. Brian Ross has a long history of wine making, understanding the way fruit behaves, and how to pull out independent flavours is key. From tasting to measurements adding the right amount of alcohol will turn your fruit into the sweet, dry, light or heavy body wines that you like. All the staff have now completed the worlds bench mark in wine education training - WSET (wine and spirit education trust) level 1.
What Fruit is in Now ! Rhubarb Most Fruits can be picked and frozen with their stems removed and pitted if needed. Apples, Pears, Grapes ripen off the stem and are better left unfrozen. For most fruits an average of 30lbs of fruit to make 30 bottles of wine.

Yoga for Well-Being
Yoga practise ties together meditation and breathing exercises and serves as yet another tool on the stress management journey as it greatly benefits body, mind and spirit. Specifically, research shows that yoga can help manage anxiety, chronic fatigue, depression, stress and many other conditions. Yoga exercises do not have to be complex and strenuous to be effective. There is no “one fits all” approach as there are many different styles of Yoga and it is well worth exploring the choices. Yoga and meditation provide for a great tools for self-empowerment because both practises teach how to take care of one’s health on all levels: emotional, physical, and spiritual. These practises encourage a sense of selfworth and they also call for self-responsibility. Ultimately, these stress management tools are incredibly self-empowering because they allow us to manage and control different emotional states in healthy ways – as opposed to destructive and self-sabotaging ways. Most importantly, they encourage the process of transformation; a process that must start from within. Gabriela Eikeland DN, CSMC, RT-CRA www.womynspathofhealing.com

Dogs in hot cars You must take precautions against the danger of heat exhaustion and heatstroke for their pets. The temperature in a parked car, even in the shade with the windows partly open, can rapidly reach a level that will seriously harm or even kill your pet. Leaving you pet in a car with the air conditioning on is also taking a risk as many pets have died as the result of a faulty air-conditioning system. Dogs (and cats) cool themselves by panting and by releasing heat through their paws. On summer days the air and upholstery in your vehicle can heat up to high temperatures that make it impossible for pets to cool themselves. Your dog will be more comfortable if left at home.

convulsions or vomiting; collapse, coma and death. Emergency treatment for dogs If your dog shows symptoms of heatstroke follow these instructions: Immediately move the animal to a cool, shady place.
Wet the dog with cool water. Fan vigorously to promote evaporation. This process will cool the blood, which reduces the dog’s core temperature.
Do not apply ice. This constricts blood flow which will inhibit cooling.
If you see a dog in a car on a warm or humid day who you believe may be in trouble, ask stores to page customers. If the dog is in distress call your local SPCA, animal control or police immediately.
Symptoms of heatstroke Exaggerated panting (or the sudden stopping of panting); rapid or erratic pulse; salivation; anxious or staring expression; weakness and muscle tremors; lack of coordination; tongue and lips red (which may eventually turn bluish in colour);
