the new owners of DOCKSIDE FISH N CHIPS. the ownership of the Pallan’s in 2016. Knowing what a gem the restaurant was and seeing its potential, it wasn’t difficult for her to embrace the opportunity to buy the business. Michelle says, “so many tourists and locals just love coming here, sitting on the dock and sharing the space with the wildlife”, it is a part of their holiday experience and for locals its good fish n chips, sitting in the sun and just being able to float on the ocean. Darren Ramm or better known as “Chef Ramm” a born and bred Campbellriverite, has spent most of his working life at the Harbour Grill for the past eleven years, more recently as one of the lead chefs. Darren says, “if I wasn’t cooking I was fishing”, “I love fishing and then being able to turn it into a delicacy for everyone

to enjoy is the best.” There are no big plans to change up the menu too much to start, one obvious change will be the type and quality of the fish, bringing in a variety of seafood and good quality of prawns, halibut and salmon is the primary focus for now. The much raved about ’thin batter’ is definitely not going anywhere, Darren’s motto is, “I want to taste the fish not the batter”. Fanny Bay Oysters, local farmed food plus local brewed beer are all on the menu, and of course for those that don’t want fish there will be plenty of wholesome fresh choices. The restaurant has been given a fresh new colour scheme, the kitchen has been updated with newer equipment and the resident seal ‘Richard’ a female seal has been named company mascot. Both Darren and Michelle want to become more involved with the community, and are talking about charitable event fundraisers looking for ways to give back to the community. Michelle says, “she wants the people of Campbell River to feel like this is their landing place, and we are here to help”.
The restaurant is set to open

Good luck Michelle & Darren, we wish you all the best. Find contact details in the Local Dining listings on page 30.

A cop stops a man for running a stop sign and the subject gives the cop a lot of grief explaining that he did stop. After several minutes, the cop explained to the gentleman that he didn’t stop, he just slowed down a little. The gentleman said “Stop or slow down, what’s the difference?” The cop opened the mans door and told him to stick his leg out, then started smashing the door on his leg and then said, “Would you like for me to stop or just slow down?”

A woman awoke excitedly on Valentine’s Day and announced enthusiastically to her husband, “I just dreamt that you gave me a pearl necklace for Valentine’s Day! What do you think it means?” With certainty in his voice, the man said, “You’ll know tonight.” That evening, the man came home with a small package and handed it to his wife. With anxious anticipation the woman quickly opened the package to find a book entitled, “The Meaning of Dreams.”

press for progress Findings from the Global Gender Gap Report tell us that gender parity is over 200 years away - there has never been a more important time to keep motivated. The good news is that across the world women are making positive gains day by day. Plus, there’s indeed a very strong and growing global movement of advocacy, activism and support. Now more than ever there is a strong call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive. International Women’s Day is not country, group or organization specific. The day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. So together, let’s all be tenacious in accelerating gender parity.
