A Festival that features not just a stellar lineup but also a complete display of local food, art, visuals, and culture. Situated in the quaint and funky village of Cumberland, Atmosphere goers can enjoy the close proximity to the waterpark (right beside us) and Comox Lake, which has additional camping and will be running shuttles. There are also all of the sweet offerings that the downtown Cumberland shops, eateries and pubs have to offer. We’ve strived to infuse this festival with that village vibe. The Gourmet Girls have put together a tantalizing community meal plan featuring local food. We’re inviting people to bring their own plates and utensils to minimize the footprint of this event.

$$$$ $$ DOLLAR EN E $ $ THE JOY of BUDGETING Budgeting isn’t fun. Not one bit fun. So if you like fun then you might want to stop reading right now. BUT budgeting is powerful and easy so maybe you should just stick around for a few more lines.
Ever heard the saying: Knowledge is power!? Well, when you know your own personal numbers, that gives you a power that no one can take away. Knowing those numbers can reduce stress, increase confidence and literally change lives. Figuring out how to manage life on the money you have can be the key to happiness. That’s how powerful a budget can be. A budget isn’t a little box you have to live in; the purpose of a budget is to understand exactly how much money you need to cover your necessities and how much money is leftover at the end of the month. Knowing how much is leftover after all your needs are taken care of gives you the power to decide how you’re going to spend that money. Will you save for a down payment on a home? contribute to a TFSA? buy clothes? pay off your debt? Or, perhaps, travel? And if there’s nothing leftover or, worse yet, a deficit then that gives you the power to make changes. The choices are simple: increase income or decrease spending. Knowing there’s a shortfall may be the incentive to ask for that raise, get a second job, start a side business or move on from a dead-end job. Reducing what you spend can seem impossible but that’s really because we fool ourselves into believing that many of our wants are actually needs. Needs include: food, water, clothing, shelter, medications and transportation; wants are everything

else. For example, a family of four may believe they need a four bedroom house when an affordable two bedroom condo may be the answer to making ends meet. A budget may not be fun but it’ll help you to make the best choices about how you spend your hard-earned money so that you can have fun!

My father, an Army major, was conducting a field test when communications went dead. Immediately, he jumped into a jeep and ordered a sergeant to speed to the command station. When my father and the sergeant ran in, the group cheered their arrival. The commanding officer then stepped forward and shook my father’s hand. “Don’t congratulate me, sir,” my father said modestly as he pointed to his driver. “It was all the sergeant’s doing.” The commanding officer nodded and turned to the sergeant. “Congratulations,” he said. “The major’s wife just had a baby girl.”
