“We live in a desirable location and people want to come here. Rick Fines performed here and he is a top notch professional in the blues industry. Shari Ulrich is coming in August. Ryan McMahon is coming in September. It is not all about the biggest names but I would love to get Barney Bentall here,” he admitted. With overwhelming support from local musicians as well as visiting performers the lounge is filling a niche in Parksville and Pickard couldn’t be happier. The Ukulele Club which meets the second and fourth Monday evening of each month is designed to encourage uke players to interact with other musicians in a social and fun environment. There is an Open Mic night dedicated for just young people and Pickard said it fills his heart to help out kids who want to develop their musical skills. “I see the kids coming up and they are so excited.” He said their mission is to mentor some up and coming talent and he has a team of dedicated volunteers who are making it happen. International Fairy Day June 23 at Errington Farmers Market. Fantasy, imagination and a little bit of pixie dust will come together at the Errington Farmers’ Market on Saturday, June 23. June 24 is International Fairy Day and to celebrate the butterfly winged cherubs, the public is invited to come make a fairy house for the market woods in Errington Park. All ages are welcome to participate from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be some all natural, responsibly gathered supplies and a couple whimsical fairy house builders on hand to help. As the fairy houses will remain in the woods, only natural materials to the area can be used and folks are encouraged to bring any suitable materials for the project. Things like sticks, bark, dry grasses, pebbles, shells, feathers and pinecones are great additions but just be sure to be respectful of all living things … fairies are careful to never harm. Baskerville are brand new scripts. It is really amazing for us to get something so new. For a local amateur theatre group to get the rights on two brand new shows that nobody else is doing … I love that.” The Savannah Sipping Society directed by Jay Norton is a delightful, laugh-a-minute comedy featuring four unique Southern women, all needing to escape the sameness of their day-to-day routines. They are drawn together by fate and an impromptu happy hour and decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years. In Baskerville, comedic genius Ken Ludwig transforms Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskervilles into a murderously funny adventure. Directed by Mike Moroz, the comedy observes intrepid investigators trying to escape a dizzying web of clues, silly accents, disguises, and deceit as five actors deftly portray more than forty characters. Teen Musical Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. tells the classic story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under a spell of an enchantress.
