ECHO Players presents

Collected Stories

Directed by Lynne Carrow & Sue Murguly

April 19 - May 6 Told with intelligence, sharp humour and biting insight, Collected Stories centers on the evolving relationship between Ruth Steiner (Beth DeVolder), an older, somewhat testy Columbia University professor and renowned short story writer, and her student, Lisa Morrison (Jennifer Kelly), an ambitious aspiring writer who is in awe of her professor. Over the course of their six year relationship, the student exceeds her mentor’s success. “Moving, funny and heartwarming. Here’s a play that starts with a hero worship, moves to friendship and finally betrayal. You will leave the theatre glowing. Collected Stories reminds one of the joy of living life to the full.”… London Sunday Times. Directed by Lynne Carrow and Sue Murguly, “Collected Stories,” by Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Margulies will be presented at the Village Theatre. MORE INFORMATION

the original Oliver Twist,” he explained. The troupe is made up of amateur actors ranging in age from 10 to 75. Many of them performed with Packer in the Echo Players production of Dick Whittington in December 2016. With his cast of 20 actors and musicians, he is confident the show will engage, entertain and educate the public. “We want to bring awareness and focus on those who are less fortunate. Oceanside does a good job of addressing the issue but we need to keep reminding ourselves of their plight and we need to let our children know that poverty is on our doorstep.” Almost half of the cast are children and Packer said when young audiences see their peers acting, dancing and singing it will provide an artistic link to help them understand a serious topic. Two of the songs in the show have been choreographed by an 11 year old actor in the ensemble. The troupe is also being supported by the Errington Hall Board, St Edmunds and St Anne’s Church in Parksville, the Rotary

Club of Qualicum Beach, the RDN, Echo Players and the Salvation Army. The script has been written to include mention of the fact that the Salvation Army is actively assisting those in need. It also refers to the historical beginnings of Coombs, which started out as a Salvation Army settlement in the early 1900’s. The area was settled by people from the east end of London, where Dickens located Fagin and his young cronies. Public performances will be at the Village theatre on Saturday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. The cost for adults is $15, students $10 and children 12 or under $6. Admission is by donation to the food bank for the 7 p.m. shows at the Errington Hall on March 16 and 17. MORE INFORMATION
