New Business

Iona Wharton loves decorating and re-purposing retro’ and vintage furniture, not to mention decorating and creating anything with a vintage look. Opening French Creek Collective was a natural for Iona and was something that she had dreamt about for many, many years. The family business with daughter Olivia, sister, husband and sometimes son, has turned into the centre of all

things new and experimental. Twists on recycled products, organic and many Canadian made items are all included in the store. French Creek Collective started small and grew with unique pieces and customer requests. It has evolved into an amazing store in just a very short time. The latest addition is Fat Paint, a Canadian made, chalk-styled Artisan paint. Never wanting to stagnate, Iona started introductory paint classes as soon as the first shipment arrived. The classes have been so popular that more beginner and specialty paint classes will be held in January. Along with the classes in the new year, French Creek Collective will include stencils, brushes and unique cabinetry hardware to the line-up for all those folks who are happily redoing items at home. No longer will customers that love to rejuvenate their old furniture have to trek to Courtenay or further south of the island to get what they need to make fabulous furniture. Contact Iona or follow the What’s On Digest month to month to find out when all of French Creek Collective classes will start. Written by Cathy Kaardal

New Business Wendy Parker, the owner of the new Hermosa Lingerie Boutique at the Discovery Harbour Shopping Centre , opened her store on October 1, 2015. Married with a family of 5, Wendy has lived in Campbell River for 40 years. After spending 16 seasons at Campbell River Garden Centre Wendy decided it was time to follow her dream and create a store that was about women and being beautiful in comfort. Hermosa means Beautiful and in Wendy’s opinion when wearing elegant lingerie you can not help but feel beautiful. Being new to the lingerie industry Wendy attended the Eveden bra fitting clinic in Las Vegas actually, she went twice because she really wanted to get as much from the professionals as possible in a short time. Bra fitting, selection and availability is going to be the cornerstone of Hermosa Lingerie. It didn’t take Wendy long to figure out that comfort and practical style is what most women were looking for. One of the biggest challenges was finding the lines that have bras with sizes that the girls and women of Campbell River are asking for. Wendy says,

“I am happy to say that I have been able to find the lines and have a very nice representation of several styles, from hard to find sizing to a price range that fits every budget. Since opening the store, Wendy feels very accepted as a much needed store for the area, there is definitely a buzz, and people are excited to come into the store. Already the store is attracting women from all over the island, especially Courtenay, and is fast becoming a destination for women. An online store will soon be available on a new web site set to launch in 2016. Special thanks to the women of Campbell River……. “Thank you for the exciting start to my business. I am so grateful to those of you who have given me the opportunity to fit you and provide you with comfortable and beautiful lingerie. I will always provide the very best customer service with honesty and integrity.” Wendy... Written by Cathy Kaardal

Super Clean & Tidy Meet James and Michelle Fleming plus two. James and Michelle are no newcomers to cleaning. Super Clean & Tidy is now in its third month although, James worked in his father’s janitorial business in the Okanagan for twenty years from the time he left school, and even before. After working his own business in the Okanagan, James and his wife moved to Campbell River twelve years ago and they now call it home. Raising two children in beautiful Campbell River has made James and Michelle aware that they needed to create a new environmentally, pet and child friendly sustainable cleaning business, that is affordable. The other need that became obvious was to be flexible, fitting their business around what people needed in a time that suits everyone. Super Clean and Tidy janitorial (SC&T Janitorial) has been an innovator when it comes to finding new ways to provide services that go beyond the basics. From residential to commercial cleaning, SC&T Janitorial is willing to customize a service to fit your specific needs. In doing this they hope to help you reduce the number of contractors needed around your home, making things easier for you. Yes, they will even do your laundry and clean your appliances - it truly is all about what you need. Written by Cathy Kaardal

Empower Yourself In 2016

Information provided in the following article is for educational purposes only and does not in any way or form substitute for medical and/or therapeutic advice.

Feeling empowered comes from the innate knowing and understanding that we are fully responsible for our feelings, decisions and actions. Feeling empowered allows you to catalyze your own wisdom and intelligence. Feeling empowered is closely linked to being your authentic self! Ask yourself: Who gets to vote on what you want and what you should do? Who gets to tell you what’s right or best for you? We may be spending a lot of time in life explaining and analyzing our motives, decisions, our likes and dis-likes, for the purpose of trying to find a decision that would satisfy the people around us. Or perhaps it is guilt as a result of past experiences that keeps us spinning

in circles of self-doubt and fear of owning our feelings and decisions. Even though, introspective guilt allows to bring forward awareness to our actions and makes us realize where we may have gone wrong, it can turn on us if we allow it to consume our minds Allow yourself to grow and move forward. Express and experience yourself, and get to know the highest sense of who we are. Make the decision to follow your heart and spirit, and give yourself permission to develop and maintain the strength, courage, and determination to be and to act your best. When you feel empowered you value yourself intrinsically: you own your gifts, talents, and skills as different from, but not more or better than, those of others! To Your Success!
