ith Sabine being away until the end of March things were looking very bleak for getting the magazine out on time & I didn’t wish to combine an Autumn/ Winter edition. It’s times like these that one finds out who their true friends are. The gorgeous S’Roya (Goddess Guru & Avalon fame) offered to put my Autumn edition together whilst also doing her two publications. I’m truly blessed to have a genuine friend like her in my life, words can’t describe how blessed I feel, thank you dear lady.

O

ne of the biggest events to happen so far this year has been my Mother turning 90 & Bianca, Natalie & I were able to be present for the recent festivities & we captured a photo of the four generations. Natalie (of course) stole the show as all the elderly ladies thought she was so gorgeous (& of course she is, wot me biased!).

T

he munchkins are on the move, Braydon has started Prep & Gabby is already in Grade 2 both got all dressed up & headed off to their first School Disco for the year. Not to be outdone Natalie started at preschool & didn’t take long to investigate the play ground.

W

e’re working on two new web sites at present one will assist those looking to see what’s on Spiritually around Australia & the other is the White Light’s own Spiritual/Alternate Directory. They should be up & running very soon. April sees the start of the White Light Expos with our first event being on Sunday 21st April at the Bribie Island RSL Club then we’re back to the Gold Coast for the Broadbeach 2 day event in mid May (18th & 19th). There are a lot more shows being held this year with virtually one a month up until November. They will be spread from Northern NSW up to the top end of the Sunshine Coast. Until next time, Go With Love & Light... Adrian

M

agic is a fundamental part of everyday life for a faerie. Though magic is an element that all of us may possess. Like that of a human, faeries are whole energy systems, and it is this energy that manifests as magic. Unfortunately, most humans do not allow belief nor do they understand the true depth or potentials of the energetic power they each have within. For in truth, it is limitless, and it is only the mind that prohibits any being from the truism of their realities. As for the faerie folk, energy prevails as their primary language. Therefore, they learn to nurture and control their energetic boundaries to produce what all others conceive as magic. Magic is, however, an ability that all living creatures may attain if only the individuals were to freely embrace absolute belief, faith and desire in one’s self and in that of their higher self. In doing so, energy can take on any thought form and free whatever innermost wish may be. The magic . . . the energy fields to produce all such power and enchantment are within us all. It 8

www.whitelightmagazine.com.au

is the core of our existence. It is inward and without, surrounding our entire essence. There are many layers and these layers play a very big part within every aspect of our lives. Be it our mental, our emotional wellbeing. Be it our health, our every physical element. Our emotional imbalances cause unevenness within our energies and in turn this causes further shortcomings within one’s physical being. In turn, when we are in tune and centered within, we arrive at a place of pure happiness and wellness. A place only love can exist. Energy is the most powerful of all healing components. Be you ill or distressed. When pure energy of only love and light is transmitted within, there can be no doubting the strength of what may be. There is in fact only one body that may bring resistance and cease any such mending, and that comes from within . . . ones doubts and fears. Therefore do not ever underestimate, doubt or fear your own potentials. For you are exquisite. You are of power. You are a being of magical promise and

unlimited capabilities. Believe in your energetic boundaries. Believe in ones self. From there all becomes conceivable and within reach . . . even the dreams that seem beyond the bounds of all comprehension. Understand it is just so. Tania Elizabeth is the author of a fantasy fiction trilogy ‘The Tier of Eternal Grace’ She lives of heart through battles of mind "I have existed always! Where I began I do not know, for all I know is just as I am today!" Book One ~ THE MOON CLEARING Beyond the boundary that separates the mundane and earthly planes from the divine lies Eterna Fadas, a place ruled by extraordinary beings, lithe and human-like in appearance, yet ethereal in their grace and beauty, and sensuous in nature. As Queen, Tatiana was thought to have lived a life of opulence, her faith and beliefs her endearing essence. Why then was it so, that beneath the picture of perfection laid torments and terrors even she dare not explain. Being She came with its prices paid. Being She came with a deal; a contract in which she was to relinquish herself to a rogue of unmerciful fury. Would this be the end of all she know? Would this be the end of her existence?

I honour you, for through your skepticism you began to heed my advice and have allowed the crystals to talk to you. This is the way for mankind; seek not out the crystals the ego mind calls for but allow the crystals to call to you, to sing to you. It is time now for you to pass this message on to others. Many who read these words will already be working with and communicating with the crystal world, many will be more experienced in their dealings with the crystal and the elemental families.

This matters not; it is the love in your heart for the crystals that are your friends that matters most. For those of you reading these words who too are crystal lovers, it is time for you to pass on this love of your crystal sisters and brothers to others so that they can begin to understand the vibrational essence of the crystals and the important part they play in the balance of life on Mother Earth. Those of you who are healers extend your healing vibrations to the crystals of the earth for many have been shattered and abused. Those of you who feel you are not a healer simply send them your love and blessings. Where will all this lead you ask? When you are in tune and communicating with the crystals you will feel the answers. Does it not say in the bible that you are made of crystalline substance? All on this earth are one and all that you do, say to another creature, person, plant, tree, rock and stone has a reverberate effect on all the world. Southern AUTUMN

EQUINOX A Time of Perfect Balance by Marye-Ann Azzarello

T

he Autumn Equinox, also known as Mabon after the Welsh fertility god, is the second of the three annual harvest festivals. Since these celebrations are seasonal, it is observed on or near 21 March in the Southern Hemisphere and on or near 21 September in the North. This year here in the south it is on Wednesday 20th March.

12

www.whitelightmagazine.com.au

T

his is a time to give thanks to the Divine Source in whatever way we may perceive this. To pagans this is the Goddess and the God. In the northern hemisphere a Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated nationally in the United States in late November, and there is also a national Thanksgiving holiday in October in Canada – a clear carry over from older times when a bountiful harvest meant that the people would have a good chance of surviving the winter and the Deities were dutifully thanked for providing this sustenance. There are eight holy days in the pagan calendar, called sabbats. Of the eight the summer and winter solstices and the spring and autumn equinoxes are solar festivals while the remaining four are generally seen as lunar, though this is not true in all traditions. Autumn Edition 2013

A

t the time of the equinox day and night are of equal length and the powers and responsibilities of the Goddess as the Divine Feminine and the god as the Divine Masculine are thought to be equal as well. The perfect balance of all things in both the mundane and the spiritual realms. This is a good time to celebrate the balance in our personal lives. Notice how many things are ‘perfectly balanced’ for you – often we focus on what is not quite right and miss what is truly perfect. Look at each aspect of life – personal relationships, job and business, every day activities. Ask yourself if anything that is upsetting you is really the important factor, or is it just an annoyance from which we may learn how to handle the situation better. Looking for the best in things is not a rose coloured glasses approach. It is a sensible and realistic way to see life and gives us a much clearer perspective on what is really happening. At this time of perfect balance check your own, personal life balances – you may be pleasantly surprised at how well things are really going.

T

his is a good time to celebrate the balance in all of nature and to remind ourselves that balance is achieved by the perfect combination of opposites, which are not at war but rather compliment each other. Polar opposites are not in opposition; they are the two necessary parts that form the perfect whole.

Autumn Edition 2013

T

he roots of modern paganism go back to days when society consisted of small isolated agricultural communities. In such a society the annual harvest was all important. A failure could mean that the community would starve during the cold winter months ahead. In the modern West, with so many pagans being urban dwellers, we are no longer focussed so strongly on the physical harvesting of our food. We may rather focus at this time on the harvest of ideas and projects whose seeds were planted earlier in the year.

A

t this time we acknowledge the gifts that these earlier seedings have brought to us and give thanks to the Goddess and the God for the harvest we have reaped, knowing that this harvest of ideas and projects that have come to fruition will carry us successfully through the months ahead. At this time when the energies of nature are in balance, draw those energies into your own life, to carry with you through the year. A gentle reminder to ‘stay balanced’ when you feel yourself going overboard, or find life getting away from you. At these difficult times in our lives a deep breath can connect us back to the Divine Source, and bring that needed balance back into our world. Marye-Ann lives and teaches on the Gold Coast. Voted 20I3 Australian Psychic of the Year Vic.

I

was born the 8th daughter and the youngest of my family from mature parents who were going into retirement when I turned the age of fifteen. I endured a solace life as all my sisters had grown up and left the family home. During primary school years I felt so unsure of life as I could sense that I did not connect to most children as I would see and feel unsettled emotions around them. This would also happen at night when I had statues (spirit) around myself I thought it was a part of life.

I

finally realized that I was connecting to people that had past (died) or events that had not happened as yet, so how did I understand this information as a young child? I just took it as a part of me as I was always intrigued with the paranormal, the spooky, the unusual, and the earth and would question everything as I grew older. My sense of knowing became so strong, as a first thought it was like second nature and it would help out in so many areas of my life if I doubted myself there would be a situation that would occur(not pleasant) that’s why I became very trusting of the first thought, that sense of the gut feeling. 14

I

wanted to learn more and more so I started reading and attending spiritual courses and learning Reiki. I could not get enough as the more I learnt in courses the more I felt comfortable in myself and understood that I was not alone with my gifts. I went on to be a Usui Reiki Master Practitioner Trainer and started my first business in Gippsland, SeR’ene for the Soul. I went on to learn more combinations, more metaphysics so I could orchestrate all messages in one.

T

his was for public demonstration (this became my ultimate soul purpose) I started to perform platform readings which when I performed connections to spirit I felt so alive because I could speak out loud with messages I was receiving as before I would suppress the messages and shut down as I knew it would scare some. Once I knew people benefited from my readings and gave people closure that their loved ones were safe I then felt at ease. I was unleased I had finally found my gift, the gift to heal through energy the gift to connect to spirit for messages for people that Autumn Edition 2013

could not, with this I was so excited. I opened my first healing and teaching practice Soul Love Wellbeing Centre with enthusiasm, I wanted to share all my knowledge and communications with everyone for the benefit of the Mind Body and Soul. As a professional Medium for 15 years and a life time to understand my gifts I now channel (read) nationally and international and facilitate courses on mediumistic skills, Reiki and many other skills to help with guidance, acceptance and direction of self- empowerment and closure.

A

t present I am writing books so people may benefit from my understanding for their own journey with spirit that may empower them to keep going on self - acknowledgement and spiritual philosophy. I hope the books give others a piece of mind that we are all born with gifts in so many different ways. Voted by the Australian Psychic Association 2013 Psychic of the Year (VIC) Medium Rene Barics. What Makes us Happy?

by S'Roya Rose www.sroyarose.com

I

n these challenging times of change we seek to find fulfillment with purpose and true happiness within our lives. It can feel idealistic and out of our grasp at first. What is it that makes us happy, and how do we find it? Happiness it seems comes from learning about ourselves and the many things that make us satisfied or dissatisfied with life. Until we become aware of the things that make us happy or unhappy, it is impossible to find out what happiness really means to us. It seems we must know the truth of both to find balance and have understanding. Happiness can be a bit elusive if we have an expectation as to the measure of it. First one must understand that there are many states and levels of happiness. There is the common transient happiness that only lasts a short while.

There is external happiness usually stimulated by physical things, an event or situation. There is the happiness one feels at having pleased someone, or of a job well done. There is the peek ecstatic happiness when you feel you will burst with tears of joy. There is emotional happiness and quiet mental peace happiness and there are probably hundreds of different levels in between all of these. Begin by making some simple observations, note when you are in one of those happy states. Write down the things that make you feel happy and joyful,

16

www.whitelightmagazine.com.au

content and peaceful. These things may be simple like ‘I’m always happy driving into my home’, or ‘I’m always content when sitting in my garden’. To begin to understand our feelings about happiness we must first get in touch with our real emotions and feelings. This is because often how we are feeling emotionally determines our state of mind at any one time. Emotions are simply messages that are sent from our inner self, letting us know how we feel about all manner of things in our life. Learning to observe and listen to them will help us understand much about ourselves. However, we should also be able to control them, and to see them for what they are. If emotions are allowed to run our lives it will see us attached to all manner of dependence. Trying to understand our feelings can seem a bit elusive and it may require that you to sit still and ask yourself some questions like; ‘how am I feeling right now?’ Try tuning into how your body is feeling, is it tense or uptight which part is tense etc? The secret is not to ask the mind what it thinks about this, it is the body that is the last messenger of the soul. It is our heart however, that communicates our soul’s desires to us with feelings and sends messages to us sometimes via our emotions. If the heart is not happy then all else feels useless in our life. For most of our lives we have been taught to listen to our head when it is the heart of us that has all the answers if only we would listen. So the question we need to ask is ‘what does my heart feel right

now? When you have tapped into your heart and its feelings, you will be tapping into your very soul. Then ask it ‘what do you need right now?’ It may need some peace or tranquility; it may need a walk or some nurturing. It may need the company of a pet for love or a friend to talk to. It may feel alone or be feeling overwhelmed. These simple exercises will help to establish your communication within yourself, listening to your heart’s true feelings. How you feel will help you to establish if there is any suffering that you may be experiencing. For one to be truly happy there must be no suffering. Suffering can be experienced on any and all levels of the Mind, Emotions, Body and Spirit. Listening now to your deeper feelings, you must be able to determine the cause of your suffering. Whether you’re suffering is self-made circumstances, anything from an inability to express yourself – not being heard or understood – feelings of guilt – or jealousy – doubt – fear or anxiety – the pressure to perform – or personal expectations. Or are they a result of external influences projected upon you. Either way you will be able to recognise what it is that is bringing this about and be able to then choose what action is needed to alleviate it.

Autumn Edition 2013

You may need to remove yourself from an abusive relationship; seek counseling for a destructive behaviour or attitude; or heal the body. It could be you lack confidence, feel unworthy and need to build self-esteem and learn about self-love. Whatever the suffering, it can be dealt with once it is uncovered and known to you. How long you take in dealing with this will be entirely up to your own honesty and determination in making appropriate adjustments. Another aspect of us that we seem to discover along the road to happiness is that of our ego. Our ego is that part of us that sees us as separate beings, not connected to anyone or anything. The ego demands validation constantly. The ego seems to always want something else and more of everything and is never satisfied with what it is or has already. Have you ever craved for something to take place and when it finally arrived you found that the glory of having it didn’t last long? Ego always seems to need more or is craving, and for the most part we don’t know why. So he who craves is needy and cannot be free. A person who is not free of need cannot be happy. Therefore to overcome craving is to take a big step forward towards happiness. Constant craving or obsessing creates constant suffering.

To quell the cravings of the ego is part of the journey to happiness. The secret here is to need nothing, be happy and content with everything and grateful for what ever comes. It is

Autumn Edition 2013

all right to have preferences, but not attachment to a need for that preference. There is a difference. All our real needs are always taken care of in life, we only have to recognise it. You may set all the goals you like but if you are attached to their outcome, believing you cant live without them or you have to have them, then you will push them away. Let go of the outcome and accept what comes and get on with it, your goals will naturally arrive in their own time. Let the universe sing its song and dance your heart to happiness, don’t push it. When ever you feel yourself pushing, pull back take stock, breathe, then let things flow naturally. Some seek happiness through material dependence and the gathering of possessions, needing things in their life, while others seek it through emotional gratification seeking recognition or attention as a means to happiness. Others seek happiness through dependence on one’s own thoughts. It seems to me that our mental attitude about life does play an important role. So having a good mental outlook, a kind heart, with genuinely warm feelings, is very important in respect to being happy. These are the important things if you wish to be happy and your loved ones, family and friends will notice them. The cultivation of this kind of genuine happiness ultimately affects our community as a whole. If everybody adopted these kinds of traits the world would be a better place. True happiness comes from deep contentment and this contentment has the effect of giving one’s soul release from dissatisfaction. To satisfy the soul we need to move on from the ego’s ever consuming needs and allow ourselves to become satisfied with our life just as it is in the now. If we recognise that we are not satisfied then we must take the responsibility of the need to make changes to it. We need to feel purpose in the smallest of every day things. Daily practices such as starting each day with thoughts of love and ending each day with thanks for gratitude, will go a long way in helping establish a happier disposition. Learning to see the

greatness in others without feeling less than them is a humbling experience and helps us to accept each other’s gifts or mastery. Many other attributes will be required for us to gather along the road to happiness such as acceptance, self-love, humbleness, humility, and faith, trust, courage and gratitude along with the sheer joy at being alive. These are the things that will serve you most on the pathway to fulfillment and true happiness.

The Seven Keys to Happiness:

1 2

Begin to notice what makes you happy and unhappy. Pluck out the unhappy weeds on your path to happiness. See your emotions as messages and listen to their message. Then let go of the need to feel emotional. Emotional dependence is a burden.

3

If you listen to your heart and your body you will feel your feelings. Get to know your feelings; they will set you free to be happier.

4

Understand the nature of your own suffering and choose to do something about it. Allow yourself to be free of craving and suffering.

5

Place importance on things that truly matter. Know that the things you think you need, you don’t. Know all your real needs are taken care of always.

6 7

Develop a positive attitude with a good mind filled with happy thoughts, a kind heart full of love and warm feelings of acceptance. Create daily practices that affirm and seek to establish real happiness and inner contentment with your life knowing all of the above.

Your Responsibility for PEACE by Raelene Byrne

T

he art of listening, observing and witnessing life from a place of peace offers such revelations. With all the earth changes that we have been moving through, the intensity of the vibrational shifts and the frequency upgrades, it would be fair to suggest that some days it feels like we are dodging bullets. Feeling like we are in the middle of a battlefield of two opposing forces which has been quite tangible of recent times.

“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.” Dalai Lama

18

www.whitelightmagazine.com.au

There is SO much light energy on this earth, filling the earth and being called by us and gifted to this evolutionary process we are experiencing and creating. As more light floods to our world, the denser energies seem to be in resistance to the dissipation and dissolving that is required for us all to evolve, hence the feeling like we are in a war zone some days.

T

he call for peace, on so many levels and from so many people, has risen from a silent prayer to a united anthem that is sweeping this planet and collective consciousness. No matter what is happening on the global scale with regard to ‘lack of peace’, it ALWAYS comes down to each individual and the disconnection to peace we have in ourselves as the world is only the mirror, the perfect reflection to what we are creating individually, and as a collective community. When I hear people saying… if only I had more money, then I would be filled with peace, if only I had less stress I could be peaceful, if only this person was nicer to me then I could feel peace, if only… if only… if only……and it goes on. There always seems to be something between a person and being in their peace. Autumn Edition 2013

W

hat I understand and live every day, is that peace is already here, it is already in unlimited in its existence and always giving us the opportunity to invite more of that through our world. It is a daily choice, a daily commitment, a daily intention and a daily activity, totally in the heart of each individual. The responsibility for a greater universal peace, is entirely up to each of us Peace; is the consciousness part of each of us that witness the chaos that observes the crisis that has the answers when we are desperately in a state of confusion. Many of us have experienced that feeling, that moment of complete clarity, when things are completely out of control, and all of a sudden you see yourself creating the drama, engaging in the external nonsense and as you see yourself playing out the roles, you have opened a window to that internal place of peaceful knowingness. A place that once witnessed and felt yearns to be acknowledged and lived. Opening that window to see the chaos that we continually create, is the opportunity and gift to feel and own the world of inner peace. That calm stillness, that pulsation of silence, that place that nourishes, nurtures and fills us with the hope to continue, the faith that all is as it should be, and life is perfect in that moment. Peace is not an external thing that we walk the streets carrying placards pleading with people to join the cause. We remind people that they have a choice to invite peace in when we wave our protests notices and walk the streets demanding change.

T

rue peace is that sense, or place of calm inspiration that you can choose to live in completely, where the energy radiates, touches others and allows them to experience even if just for a moment, that place of quiet refuge. It has been written and scientifically proven that it only takes the square root of 0.1% of the world population to create a conscious change. When these statistics were released, the population of the planet was 6 billion, and the number required at the calculation mentioned was a mere 8,000 people!!! Imagine that only 8,000 consciously connected individuals, invoking and connecting Autumn Edition 2013

to the energy of peace, could in effect reach a critical mass number to change the state of world peace. I find that astonishing and simple. As I view the world, I see our responsibility is being called upon more than ever. As this year 2013, unfolds, more and more areas of corruption will be revealed at high levels of society. Do we engage in the ‘drama’ of the news, or do we quietly choose peace for all.

Y

ou may ask, how can I access this place of quiet wisdom, and peaceful sanctuary? Tune into yourself, start working on you, learn more about yourself, meditate, do some journal writing, own your own stuff, look at what triggers you, and instead of reacting, look at the feeling and see where that is coming from. Experience nature by being in it, not viewing from behind a car window….get your feet onto the earth, walk in the sand barefoot, sit on a rock, lie under a tree, swim in the ocean. All these simple acts will open you into the peace that resides under everything you do, with every breath you take. Perhaps this is the year to commit to BEING the peace in your world. The Heart Math Institute speaks of ‘Coherence’…feeling an emotion, having a heart opening feeling and sitting with that for 3 mins. In effect that feeling lasts for 6 hours in our energy field, and we are also feeding that into the field that supports and surrounds us all. You will touch many lives by gifting yourself 3 mins and know that you are holding that frequency for 6 hours. Everything we think, feel, say, do, and respond to, feeds the energetic field that we are all a part of. What are you feeding it, what is your responsibility to the greater world, and what is your commitment to living a life where peace is your true essence? It is entirely up to you now Namaste - Raelene Byrne www.medicineforyourspirit.com

Making a Difference with your Mindset Towards Money and Marketing Your Services by Dr Dion Klein

T

he year 2012 was a challenging year for many in the areas of relationships, money, health – you name it. Now that the level of consciousness has shifted entering into 2013 and being in the Chinese Year of the Snake, it is time to shed the ‘old skin’ and embrace the new state of awareness and share it with others. So far everyone I have spoken with has started 2013 on a positive note. Some practitioners, though, may encounter some of the same challenges as previous years because they have not overcome some blockages. When you overcome blockages, you can then deliver your services to your fullest potential in order to assist others. As a practitioner, I believe these blockages can be summed up in three words: Money, Mindset and Marketing. I want to discuss the first ‘blockage’ which usually makes spiritual healers and wellness practitioners uncomfortable: MONEY. (Take a deep breath and keep reading). What was the first thing that came to your mind after reading the sentence? “Money is not everything”? “There is more to life than money”? “ I am not in it for the money (though I wish I had more)”? Were your inner thoughts those of embracing money or repelling money? A survey was conducted by a research department at a major University in the United States looking at the effect money had on the lives of people. There were three main questions: (1) What do people worry about most?, 20

www.whitelightmagazine.com.au

(2) What makes people the happiest?, and (3) What makes people the most unhappiest? For all three questions, the answer was ‘money’. The reality is that the majority of our days include some kind of monetary involvement with the world such as receiving money for giving a treatment or paying rent. I love Eric Butterworth’s reflection on this cited in his book “Spiritual Economics”. He states, “No matter how lofty your spiritual ideals may be, no matter how many powerful affirmations of Truth you can speak by rote, you still have to pay your bills.” What I have seen and heard is that many spiritual healers and health practitioners struggle to make ends meet and have a non-abundant relationship with money. Some seem to live in a ‘povertyconsciousness’ believing that their service is a gift from spirit; therefore, they should not charge or charge very little money.

W

e know that money is a form of energy and energy is defined as an adequate or abundant amount of power. Money, therefore, is another medium of exchange. So why do many healers have a more positive feeling about discussing the energetic exchange of Reiki than the energetic exchange of money? It is interesting to note that we use the term ‘currency’ synonymous with money. ‘Currency’ is defined as something that is used as a medium of exchange (energy). The origin and history of ‘currency’ comes from a condition of flowing which includes the flow of money. Autumn Edition 2013

There is little likelihood that your life can become FULLY functioning and serving as a healer unless you have a positive and creative attitude towards money. This leads to the second blockage: MINDSET, or your ‘setting’ of mind. This mindset can be towards money or any of the other dimensions of wellness including the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, vocational, environmental, and financial states of being. As humans (for the most of us), each of these areas ‘flow’ differently at various times in our lives. Have you ever experienced being totally connected with the ‘higher power’ and then suddenly go through a period where you are grateful that you have enough power to get out of bed in the morning? If you have experienced those ‘slow-flows’ in life, reflect on what your mindset was and how did your mindset help you get through those times or make those times worse? Reflect on what your mindset is on all dimensions of wellness. Be brutally honest. Your actions and ‘reality’ reflect your mindset. For example, if you have a positive mindset on your financial wellbeing, you have no worries about paying your bills and living a financially abundant life. If you have a positive relationship with your body, you probably engage in daily physical activity, eat foods that energise you, and feel pretty good about yourself when you look in the mirror naked.

M

arketing one’s services can be easily summarised in two words: Pain and Pleasure. Re-evaluate your marketing material. If you can use words that address alleviating THEIR pain and heightening THEIR pleasure, you have a better chance of them enquiring about your services. Put yourself in THEIR shoes. As a massage therapist, I am going to offer a solution to a potential client’s problem, for example, “I can help your stress problems with massage”. It’s not about ‘therapy marketing’; it’s about benefit marketing. Always remember to state what’s in it for them. This was a very brief introduction to three areas that I believe impact your business as a healer and practitioner. By embracing these concepts and making even slight changes, you will get closer to working at your ultimate potential thereby seeing an increase in your business. Dr Dion Klein has been involved in the health and wellness industry over the past 30 years as a practitioner, entrepreneur, writer, speaker, educator and marketing consultant. He is the CEO of The Wellness Academy, which specialises in training and coaching practitioners in the wellness industry on business and marketing strategies. He also is the founder of The WISE Academy, a Registered Training Organisation that delivers qualifications in business, sport, recreation, fitness and massage.

The last blockage is MARKETING your services. The way most spiritual healers market themselves does not entice the average Aussie to quickly ring for a healing. Most people do not think they need to be ‘fixed’. The language you use in your marketing material may not be suitable for the market you are trying to reach. Additionally, your marketing material can reflect what you subconsciously believe in your own worth. Autumn Edition 2013

Australian

I

Shaman

n my role as an Australian shaman and life coach I am inspired by the infinite potential for human growth, development and understanding. Often, however I find that individuals who contact me hoping to change their life so they can embrace a spiritual purpose and meaning are stalled in stagnant pools of fear and doubt! Because the metaphysical principals of shamanic thought are not part of our main stream Australian culture many people resist taking the necessary steps that will eventually lead them to understanding the universal peace of mind, freedom, happiness and wellbeing that has been experienced by cultures steeped in shamanic traditions for thousands of years. Resistance to growth, development and understanding is not limited to one section of our community or another. It ranges from the very tip of our community and spiritual leadership to the well meaning spiritual teacher or student who finds the comfort and security of their familiar belief, modality or practice impossible to alter or change.

T

he resistance to change is not uncommon in everything we do as human beings. Most people prefer to follow familiar patterns in their work, home and family life. It is often much easier to go with the flow of other peoples demands and expectations than rock the boat and cause a disturbance. Even our national education system is inflexible and grounded in patterns of teaching and learning that will suite some students, some of the time, but by its very nature will never suite everyone. Currently there is a widening gap in Australian spiritual teaching that fails to address our natural universal connection to the environment we live in, and rely on, to provide our daily needs. This gap continues to expand because of an education system that promotes the belief we are all individuals separated from the air, water, plants, animals, land and each other. The separate nature of self does not provide the necessary common ground or metaphysical framework from which we can learn to act, think or create as one wholistic life force energy. 22

H

uman ego creates the possibility of separation of individual self from the whole. It has been the challenge of the greatest spiritual teachers of all time to help us understand the traps and pitfalls of ego thinking and to help us discover our true spiritual purpose and meaning for human life on earth. They have been successful to one degree or another but the challenge to understand the traps and pitfalls of human ego thinking is far from over. Imagine that you are nothing more or less than the thoughts you allow yourself to have. Shamanic thinking allows you to become an integrated part of the whole human experience. A shaman perceives common ground in all things. No room for ego there. In shamanic thought there is no separation in creation. To clarify this point, shamanic thought perceives the energy of the human life force as an evolving experience. This means that from first to the last, the human experience is a cumulative experience that is occurring over millennia and connected metaphysically by what world renown psychoanalyst and shamanic researcher C.G. Jung regarded as the collective unconscious.

H

uman thought naturally collects everything outside of its personal ego need into subjective groups. We do not individualise each person in other countries. We do not individualise every tree or creature in the sea, but we individualise to the point of specific details the occurrences in our own daily lives. The ego fills us with an inflated sense of self importance for survival reasons that when checked and measured against the reality of all that has occurred to this point in time, makes the individual thinker no more relevant than a single drop of water to all of the oceans on Earth. When individual human thought is given space to evolve and include the notion of our collective human unconscious as being the key to a doorway that awakens universal shamanic understanding, the purpose and meaning of human life on Earth takes on a grander perspective in the reality of our infinite potential for human growth, development and understanding. LOVE By Candramukhi Mali Tidyman

“There is only one language in the world, and that is the language of love.” Swami BV Narayana

L

ove is the sweetest of all words. When we hear it, a very sweet mood arises in the hearts of both the speaker and the listener. All beings are controlled by love. Many will even give up their lives for it. Eyes speak the language of love, ears and hands speak and understand it, and a glowing face tells everything. To love is the sole purpose of life. We often get distracted and strive to gain endless material possessions, comforts and sensory indulgences, mistaking this for the purpose of our existence. We endeavour to 24

www.whitelightmagazine.com.au

upgrade to the latest model car, mobile phone or big house. But even if we become the owner of everything, even the entire planet earth, we will not be happy without love. A person can live for some time without food, an even shorter time without water, and only minutes without air. But if we have no love, we cannot live for even a second. The real problem of the world is that there is not enough love. Our attention is, more often than not, overly focussed on maintaining and increasing our wealth and sensory enjoyments, not

considering who or what we exploit to attain it. Despite all of our technological advances, there is a great poverty - a poverty of the heart. The universal wisdom of the Vedas teaches that there are two types of love: selfish and selfless love. Selfish love is expressed in a way where everything revolves around ‘I, me & mine.’ It is a mindset that sees everything and everyone as meant for our own enjoyment. Thismood of selfishness reflects out within our dealings with others and the environment, both in personal relationships as well as with Autumn Edition 2013

people in general. We love our very beautiful wife or husband or partner if he/she serves and treats us the way we want. But if he/she is always fighting with us or is in love with another person, we will be upset. If someone close to us dies, we become very shocked and upset, and we miss everything that they used to do for us. We operate in the sphere of duality, seeing others as either our friends or enemies based on how they treat us. There is a famous saying, ‘Friends are friends and foes are foes, to the degree they serve or mar our woes.’ When selfish love permeates our life, happiness is very far away. Selfless love, on the other hand, has everything to give and nothing to take. It is unconditional and not saturated with a business mentality: “I love you if you love me.” Unconditional love is at the centre of our being. It is part of our soul’s nature. It is the vital force that infuses us with energy and purpose. It connects hearts together, and allows others to be as they are. It has no need to control or make someone in our own image. It has the power to

Autumn Edition 2013

heal and thrives on appreciation, respect and acceptance. It is seasoned by kindness and nurtured by commitment. One of the closest examples of unconditional love seen in this world is that of a mother’s love. A child gives nothing to the mother, but the mother gains more satisfaction in giving to her child than practically anything or anyone else. One of the most famous addresses by a US president was given by J.F. Kennedy, when he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” When we look to satisfy and serve others, we automatically find happiness in our heart. How can we develop unconditional love? As long as our love and affection is based on identification with our body, our love will be amalgamated with selfishness. Pure love is found only within the soul. Each one of us is in fact a spiritual being. Beneath the physical covering of our gross body, beyond the mind and intellect, is our beautiful, individual spiritual self. Just as innumerable tiny

molecular particles of light continuously shimmer in the rays of the sun, the numberless, infinitesimal living beings exist like atomic particles of the Supreme Divinity. We are tiny parts and parcels of that Supreme Being, and therefore have the same quality of spiritual, unconditional love built into our eternal nature. When our spiritual form is covered by a material bodywe develop a false identity, and believe that life is meant for our own selfish enjoyment. We are divine parts of the Divine Whole, and as parts, are meant to serve the whole. When we act in forgetfulness of this fact, we live on the plane of selfishness. However, when we awaken our eternal consciousness and relationship with the Supreme Being, and see all others as part of that Supreme Divinity, we awaken our natural, normal quality of unconditional, ecstatic love. LOVE: Day dreaming is nearly as good as being there, when you feel cold wet and miserable and you dream of a lush tropical island in the sun with your love. For some of you this could be a reality shortly as you plan your next holiday. For those of us who can’t get away then we will have to dream on. MONEY: It is really hard for a Libra to just window shop and keep your money and credit cards safely tucked away in your bag. The next couple of months are going to be very tempting to spend, spend, spend. But just remember enjoyment can come in other ways than spending. Easy come easy go. HEALTH: As the weather turns cooler you need to pay special attention to your diet and nutrition. Your immune system could do with a tune up, maybe you need to improve your lifestyle, eat better, exercise more. Everything in moderation and balance is the best recipe. Increasing water intakehelps.

LOVE: Well with your ever positive outlook on life it is no surprise that you are never without a partner for long by choice. But now you seem to be reflecting back over the past and where you have come from. This is a great time to clear the past to move forward to the future with renewed enthusiasm. MONEY: Money always arrives when needed, and now is no exception, being the luckiest sign of the Zodiac. You create your own luck by having breadth of vision and seeing no limitations. Money comes and goes. With lady luck on your side anything is possible. Dream big it can all happen. HEALTH: With increased energy coming your way there will be no keeping you still. Outdoor activities like walking and hiking are very appealing as the weather cools down. Make sure you warm up and cool down properly to avoid strained and stiff muscles the next day.

LOVE: You will be feeling a mixed bag of emotions over the next couple of months as one minute your partner is the most fascinating person there is on earth and then a couple of hours later they could be the most annoying person. This is due to your emotional wellbeing being over active. Maybe you need to learn to slow down and meditate. Your romance should sparkle. MONEY: Money is not the most important thing in your life. But gathering of knowledge is always paramount. You will have to keep a tighter rein on your spending over the next couple of months as a new computer/ipad and phone could be on the horizon. HEALTH: With your mind always active it is also important to keep the body active. Plenty of walks in the fresh air would be advised over the next couple of months. There will be increased work pressure so you need to have a clear head to keep up. Walking and running certainly help.

SCORPIO:

CARPRICORN:

PICSES:

LOVE: Mystery and intrigue are always in vogue, but you and your partner have some real serious issues to resolve over the next couple of months, as the relationship adjusts to new demands. For single’s you will be more demanding on your list of requirements than ever before settling for nothing less than perfect. MONEY: There will be some serious changes to your income over the next few months, some will change their job and will be pursuing more money as well as job satisfaction. For others it will be reorganization and budgeting time. Saving money this year seems to be much highlighted. HEALTH: Increasing your physical activity, by just going for a walk will benefit your circulation and improve posture. Plus the added benefit if increasing the oxygen in the lungs as we move into the cooler months of the year where you are more prone than any other sign to coughs and colds.

LOVE: Big decision are looming which involve you and your partner, so there will be a few heated moments in the next couple of months. Don’t forget to listen to the other persons point of view even if you don’t agree with their opinion, sometimes by just listening we can learn so much more about our partner. MONEY: This is an important time of the year when there could be some big business deals on the horizon or job changes in the air. Certainly there is very good influences out there for money over the next couple of months. So don’t be your slow usual self and miss the opportunities that are coming your way. Being cautious is good, but don’t be slow or you will miss the opportunity of a lifetime. HEALTH: You have been feeling down in the mouth lately so now is the time to pick yourself up and start a new exercise regime that will also improve your emotional wellbeing and give you a new lease on life. Circulation could also do with a boost via exercise.

LOVE: You are usually so romantic and thoughtful of your partner, and the next couple of months are no exception. You love to spoil and pamper your partner, and with the cooler weather upon us there is a real desire for curling up in front of the fire with a loved one and just enjoying each others company. A good bottle of wine and a box of chocolates complete the scene. Enjoy these special moments. MONEY: The real urge to redecorate and improve your home and its surrounding, will see a big drain on your personal finances in the next couple of months. But it will certainly make you feel good and enjoy every dollar you spend. Just remember that word budget does come in from time to time. HEALTH: If there is going to be any emotional pressure in the coming months it will come from work. Some people really get on your nerves and lower your immune system so make sure you relax to ward of colds and flu.

Q Dear Gena

estions &Answers Dear Gena Dear Gena I am very worried about my daughter Emma it appears that she has lost focus and is spending too much time in bed and not wishing to complete her studies. Emma is 19 years old, soon to be 20. She is at Uni doing nursing and when she first started she was full of enthusiasm but now she has no energy. I am worried that she is taking drugs and going along the wrong path. Please tell me what you can see if you can. Thank you Rosemary

www.whitelightmagazine.com.au

Kind Regards Patricia Dear Patricia

I pick nothing up of a negative nature as in drugs. I do sense a lack of energy and this could be that there is a lack within her body so suggest you go to the Doctors with her and have a blood test. I feel that it could be something to do with the iron levels, but would prefer that you obtain medical advice. I do see her completing her studies and actually going on further and specialising in some field quite possibly to do with infants. There is a slight lack of interest showing but I really believe that this is from a lack of some mineral within her body. So off to the Doctors for a blood test please and then you will find that she is back to her normal enthusiastic self.

More often than not we are not allowed to develop the different senses as we have to live our lives a little and complete varied parts of our journey first to gain wisdom and humility! I see for you that now is the time to open yourself up consciously to the Higher Aspect and your work can begin in earnest. I suggest you look to a gathering within a Spiritual Church first so that you can learn many of the different aspects of communication with the Realms of Light. You will then find your place and be able to open the doors once again to your ability that has been hidden by the requirements of life and its lessons. Once you have commenced then things will open quite quickly for you. Welcome to my world Patricia there is nothing better than helping others to understand.

I would really like to become a clairvoyant and speak with those who have passed over. Many years ago when I was quite young I did see dead people but it frightened me. Now that I have been reading more I am no longer so concerned and would like very much to be able to do what I did all those years ago. Can you suggest how I can get this started please?

Dear Gena I came across your articles and I like the way that you answer things so giving it a go and writing to you via Whitelight. Can you see what the grey shape is that I feel and see out of the corner of my eye when I am quiet at home reading? I do not feel frightened but would just like to know what or who it is. I am not very knowledgeable about all this psychic stuff, but am interested and have just started going to Spiritual Churches. Thanks in advance Ruby Dear Ruby I am being told that the grey shape is actually a dog that once belonged to you and is coming to visit and to ‘protect’ you!! A brown and tan dog that was a bit cheeky and more human than animal! The energy of this dog is very much with you when you are quiet and does not wish you to be lonely hence pops in most evenings when your room is quiet. Regarding your visits to the churches, not long from now you will receive a message from a clairvoyant that will be very bizarre but will actually mean a lot to you. This will increase your interest in all things metaphysical and also introduce you to many new people and begin to fill your life up with interesting events. When this happens you might find that the spirit dog does not visit so frequently as ‘he’ is with you so that you are not on your own and feeling at times a bit lonely. Dear Gena

Dear Gena

I was wondering if you could help me. I am thinking of changing my work situation and not sure if I should or not? One day I think, yes and then the next day, no! I am not happy where I am and feel that there are many who do not like me. I need to work to pay the mortgage and am frightened that if I leave where I am, I have been here 15 years, that I will not find another position. Please can you see if there are any changes for me and if I should start the process of moving.

When I am out walking I often find feathers on my path, lots of them, can you tell me what this sign is please. Thank you Maureen Dear Maureen

The signs show me that you should stay where you are as you are in the right place. I get the feeling that you are bringing to work your home problems and that you should leave those behind to deal with outside of your work situation. I am picking up that you are not the most cheerful at work and this is actually being seen by your colleagues! Please stay where you are because it is a safe position. Just change how you walk into work and greet the others with a smile and let them see that you are happy to be there, pleased to be employed and then you will notice the change around you.

Gosh this could mean a multitude of things actually as often it depends on what you are thinking at the time! Feathers to me are signs from what I call ‘Upstairs’ and it happens to me all the time and when I find a feather after pondering upon some subject, the feather is a positive answer to my query. In your case I am being shown that it is a form of communication from a very dear friend who passed to the Light only a few months ago. This was someone very special to you and someone that you would have many conversations with regarding the realms of different existences. What I am being shown is that this person’s soul wants to tell you that ‘everything is okay even though it is not what she thought but a thousand times better’! All is well with her journey and she wishes you to be pleased for her that she is no longer in pain and neither is she’ frozen by fear’, her words not mine. Enjoy the feathers it always means contact of the highest level.

A Pagan Autumn

What is a Pagan? Earth based spirituality. Reverance for the Earth. Seeing spirit in many forms including both male & female Dieties. Crafting Autumn Harvest

At last the heat of summer is fading and the shortening days of autumn bring a cooler charge to the air. Nature is winding down her growth cycle in preparation for winter’s sleep, and drying leaves, seed pods and grasses are everywhere. Many of these dried things are ideal for use as decorations to bring the spirit of autumn into our homes and remind us of the change of season. Dried grasses and vines can be twined into wreaths and with the addition of seed pods and autumn leaves, they make a wonderful decoration to hang on the wall above the altar. Alternately they can be hung on the door as a welcome to visitors. If these things are made in a spirit of thankfulness, with the intent of imbuing them with our gratitude for all the good that has come our way during the year, they can also serve to connect us with the seasonal energies of harvest and thanksgiving. Many everyday crafts that you may not associate with witchcraft can be made magickal simply by concentrating on infusing magickal energy into the item you’re working on. You could knit a scarf for a friend while imagining that person filled with love and happiness, thus creating a spell in the form of a scarf – a love scarf. The same item could be knitted with the intent to bring healing and it would then be a healing scarf. Even making a meal or baking a batch of cookies can be undertaken as a magickal practice – just remember, never try to compel anyone. The golden rule is ‘suggest, don’t coerce’ – it is always unethical to bully someone and doing it magically is no exception; not to mention that things done with the wrong intentions have a way of rebounding on the sender, so always focus on generating the best outcome for all concerned and you won’t go wrong. At this time of year there is something very soothing about repetitive handcrafts like knitting, embroidering or even twining branches together to make a wreath; you almost slip into a meditative state while you work and that is when adding spells to your projects is so effective. So as the autumn nights grow longer, settle into your favourite chair and begin working on a special project to bring the warmth of a loving spell to someone you care for. Blessed be, Morganna

The Magic of Numerology

N

umerology is a powerful tool for divination particularly when it comes to planning future events. This is not to say we use numbers in place of our own intuition. It’s more a case of triggering or activating our inner knowing through the realisation that everything in our physical reality has a frequency, therefore we are interacting continuously, often in unseen ways. Evidence of this factor can be seen or felt every day. How many of us happen to look up at the time only to see its 11:11, or13:13, or 20:20 etc.? This is an opportunity granted to us by Grace to wake up and take notice! The particular number combinations provide us with further clues as to the nature or form the wake up call is to take or has taken. If we apply this same principle to planning future events, we can choose a date simply by either the numbers it contains or by the outcome we would like to achieve on the day. For example a day for beginning new ventures could be a 1 or a 10/1, a day for balance could be a 5, a day for learning or bringing masters together could be an 11/2, 22/4 or 32

Autumn 2013 Edition March, April & May 2013 Presented by Rhondda Doherty a 33/6.To some days, dates numbers in attendance and even times can and have proven more beneficial simply through awareness. Through using these principles we see that the flow of numbers is not some random event!

March 2013 – being

the 3rd month provides the opportunity for socialising in its many forms, the gathering, the researching and the exchanging of information. The mind is more active therefore seeks to find ways of channelling and stimulating that activity. March also vibrates to a 25/7 bringing with it the element of the Soul / Spirit journey on the physical realm of existence. Questions relating to what the material / physical reality really fulfils within us can arise during this time.

April 2013 – is a 4 month

bringing with it the focus on work, physical diligence and practical application. The 4 instinctively knows what piece comes next and often keeps going until the job is done risking burnout from over exertion. April vibrates to the Master Number 29/11/2 reminding us there is always more to learn and master in terms of how a task is begun, the amount of time, energy and resources necessary to complete it.

released. Feelings of deep love or devotion will also be present along with all manner of that which is in opposition or out of balance. May vibrates to the Number 12/3 stimulating the need to plan, to think, to communicate what is felt in ways that clarify or clear the mind of its clutter. Another aspect would also be seeking to occupy the mind with irrelevant information as a way of maintaining the imbalance.

May 2013 – is the 5th

month relating to balance, which is at the heart of any experience. May cam be a month where emotional or feeling responses are brought to the surface to be recognised, integrated and

Computer, Mind & Feng Shui – Similarities by Roseline Deleu

T

his morning when I glanced at my computer, I decided to have a bit of fun with it and write an article about a few of our similarities. Follow me and smile! My computer came with basic programs to enable it to work; then I added some more specific ones that I use on a daily basis. I was born (this life time) as human and had a few functions already working to only name a few: grow, breathe, sleep, move, grow, eat, discover, etc. Many more programming were immediately added by my parents and others: fear, care, beliefs, study, duty, guilt, etc. When I checked which programs I last used on my computer, it showed some similarities with what I actually do in my life today: “Disk Cleanup” – I use this function on my laptop regularly and for many years now I also ’operate’ this with my own mind set too. Indeed, as we evolve in life, our old beliefs can be re-evaluated and many can be tossed. I now focus and express as much as possible how well I feel, what I want and what makes me happy. The Feng Shui equivalent of Disk Cleanup is de-clutter. “Disk Defragmenter” – Here too, I run this function on my computer on a weekly basis. In my own mind, I often reorganise my priorities and place them in order to access the best possible result. I “Feng Shui” my mind and my home for a better flow. The Feng Shui equivalent of Disk Defragmenter relates to the art of placement: re-evaluate what surrounds you and put in focus your favourite items, one or two at the time and change them regularly so that the other ones can shine too. It is a good idea to do this after your Disk Cleanup. “Internet” – wonderful technology! I enjoy my internet dongle connection that captures messages from all over the world (and who knows even maybe from other dimensions). An antennae, like me, I get lots of information with my intuitive senses. Feng Shui-wise it corresponds to the interactions of thought forms: memories of the intents that were charged on your objects when you bought or received them. These

34

www.whitelightmagazine.com.au

memories are consciousness alive, they have created an invisible network in which your mind, body and spirit hover and remember their vibrations each time you scan your surroundings. “Inbox” & “Sent Items” – My laptop kindly keeps in stock all the messages I have received and sent until, many times per week, I go through them, answer, sort and delete those that I don’t need to follow up anymore. I love to empty the Deleted Items and feel immediately much lighter. Similarly, in my mind and Feng Shui, too, get rid of the presents received that are no longer loved or no longer needed. “Material possessions are only important for the joy they give us.” We were born naked and when we die, we leave our bodies and estate behind. From now on… choose to offer Belgian Chocolates or fresh flowers rather than objects many would feel obliged to keep. “Facebook” (FB) & “YouTube” – That’s fun… We share photos, news, wisdom, do researches and discover so much. Great… as long as we manage our time spent there and allow precious moments for real life and work too! When we go to bed, we sleep while the internet remains actively loading all sort of information. Feng Shui your FB and keep only your last 12 posts there, nobody is interested in your old stuff (emotions) after all. I chose to limit my time on FB to a maximum of 10 to 20 minutes per day. I balance my life as much as possible, exercise and connect with nature. How about you? The world never stops, nor do our lives. Life is movement, life is choice. Life is great! Next time you Disk Clean Up, Defrag or use any other program, ask yourself how much you did delete old ‘material’ you no longer need in your own mind and how good you feel when you put your priorities together. Take care, keep a positive attitude and move forward in life! Roseline Deleu, international Feng Shui Master & best-selling Author, travels worldwide with her trainings & consultations. Amazing Auras Have you ever been curious to see your aura? In the Crystal Castle gallery we have a state of the art aura camera that creates the most amazing images of your auric field in vibrant colours. The aura is an electromagnetic field that exists around every living thing. The first aura photograph was taken by Nikola Tesla in 1891 and as technology has advanced so has the capacity to create these incredible images. Our aura ‘throne’ has a special biofeedback device built into the arms that measures the electromagnetic pulses from the meridian points on your hands. These pulses are then converted into their equivalent colour vibration and mapped to the area of the body to which they correspond. This is projected onto the film to give you an extraordinary colour map of your life force.

Autumn Edition 2013

Included in each Aura Photo package is a mini interpretation from our experienced team. Each colour has special significance, reflecting both physical and emotional states. It is a brilliant tool for exploring your personal energy field. Aura photos are available at the Crystal Castle every day. Enrich your spirit with a visit today! http://www.crystalcastle.com.au/

A-Z of Culinary

Terms

by Steve Duncan

“Invaluable for food lovers”

Chateaubriand - A thick slice of beef from the heart of the tenderloin, grilled or sautéd and simply sauced. Many restaurants claim their chateaubriand to be the head of the tenderloin, cut for two, which is roasted and carved table-side. Chaud-Froid - Meat or fish that has been poached or roasted, chilled and served cold, masked with a thick sauce and glazed with aspic. The whole preparation was once quite popular and used consistently on elaborate buffets. Modern tastes have moved away from this style of food, opting for cleaner, less adulterated flavours. Chevre - The French word for goat, generally referring to goat's milk cheeses. Chicharron - Crispy fried pigskin used in Mexican cooking for salads, fillings and snacks. Chiffonade - A very fine julienne of vegetables usually associated with leafy herbs, lettuces, or greens. Chilaquiles - A family style Mexican dish of refried corn tortillas simmered in a sauce of 38

www.whitelightmagazine.com.au

tomatoes, chiles, and garlic. This is a highly seasoned dish, often served as a brunch or lunch dish with eggs or grilled meats. Chinois - French word for "Chinese". Also refers to a "China Cap", a very fine mesh, conical strainer. Chipotle - A dried and smoked jalapeño which can be found dried or reconstituted and sold in tomato sauce. These chiles are extremely hot and caution should be taken when using them in cooking. Chive - Related to the onion and leek, this fragrant herb has slender, vivid green, hollow stems. Chives have a mild onion flavour and are available fresh year-round. They are a good source of vitamin A and also contain a fair amount of potassium and calcium. Chocolate - A product of cocoa beans in which the chocolate liquor is mixed with cocoa butter in various proportions to produce the different varieties of chocolate. Bitter chocolate has no additional ingredients added. Other varieties of

chocolate have additional cocoa butter added, along with sugar, milk, and vanilla. Chorizo - A spicy pork sausage from all Hispanic countries, ranging in seasoning from mild and sweet to fiercely hot. Hotter versions come from areas of Spain and Portugal. Mexican versions contain a large variety of chiles and have a mealier texture and more complex flavour. Some of them even use fresh herbs giving it a green colour. Portugal makes a cousin to this sausage called the linguisa, that is smoked and much hotter. Choron - A variation of Béarnaise sauce with tomato puree or concasse added. Choucroute - An Alsatian specialty consisting of sauerkraut that is simmered with assorted fresh and smoked meats and sausages. This is a grand dish served on huge platters so that diners may witness all of the components displayed at one time. The kraut is first washed, then seasoned with garlic, caraway seeds, and white wine. The meats are layered in the casserole with the Autumn Edition 2013

kraut and cooked until all the meat is tender and the flavours have blended together. Pork sausages, smoked pork shanks and shoulders, and fresh pork loin are all used. A variation of this, though not actually called a choucroute, is a whole pheasant cooked in sauerkraut with champagne. There are other recipes that consist of solely fish in with the sauerkraut. This can be quite delicious if properly prepared.

forms on the surface. After cooling the thickened cream is removed. It can be spread on bread or spooned atop fresh fruit or desserts. The traditional English "cream tea" consists of clotted cream and jam served with scones and tea. Clotted cream can be refrigerated, tightly covered, for up to four days.

Chutney - The name for a large range of sauces or relishes used in East Indian cooking. Fresh chutneys have a bright, clean flavour and are usually thin, smooth sauces. Cilantro, mint, and tamarind are common in fresh chutney. Cooked chutneys have a deeper, broader flavour. Civet - A French stew usually containing game, though duck and goose are used. The meat is marinated in red wine for long periods of time, then stewed with pearl onions and bacon. The sauce was once thickened with blood, but that is a method not used much anymore. Clotted Cream - This specialty of Devonshire, England (which is why it is also known as Devon cream) is made by gently heating rich, unpasteurized milk until a semisolid layer of cream

Autumn Edition 2013

Cock-a-Leekie - A thick Scottish soup made with chicken, leeks, and barley. Modern versions have lightened up this soup by using a chicken broth garnished with leeks and barley. Cocoa Powder - This is the dried powder formed from chocolate liquor after the cocoa butter

content has been reduced. This mixture is then dried and ground into a fine powder. Dutch process cocoa has been treated with alkali to give a darker appearance and less bitter taste. Breakfast cocoa has sugar, milk solids, and other flavourings added to it. Coconut Milk - This is not the liquid that is found in the centre of coconuts, but a thick liquid made by steeping fresh grated coconut in hot water. The hot water helps to extract the fat from the coconut meat, which carries so much of this flavour. Coeur e la Creme Meaning "the heart of the cream", this is a soft cheese dessert where the mixture is drained in a mould to help it set. The cheese is then turned out onto a platter and served with fruit and bread. Alternate versions use mixtures of ricotta and cream cheese and flavoured with liquor and citrus juice. This is then moulded and served with a berry coulis. Compote - Dried and fresh fruit cooked with sugar to a jam like consistency, brief enough to allow the fruit to retain their individual identity.

KNIGHT OF THE WHITE LIGHT MEETS THE ANGEL OF HOPE!

S

hane-Maree, also known as the Angel of Hope, is a person who restores one’s faith in humanity. In a world driven by greed and self interest, she has created a new form of philanthropy by “Paying it Forward” with her hand-made Angels of Hope. The ’Latin Quarter’ at the Arts and Crafts Market at Hope Island recently hosted Shane-Maree, adorned in her halo and wings, at the Gypsy’s Grotto to support her ongoing project, ‘Pay it Forward with an Angel of Hope’. White Light Magazine is honoured to be associated with this community-focused endeavour which has a proven and successful history in South East Queensland. We would like to share with you her vision and inspiration. Adrian: Shane-Maree why did you start the Angels of Hope network? Shane-Maree: My Angel network was inspired by my near-death experience in 1997 whilst in the back of

an ambulance where I was struggling with double pneumonia. I prayed and bargained with God for a second chance at life and promised to do good things for others if I could be given that opportunity. Shortly after my prayer, the ambulance arrived at our destination, the doors were opened and an angel appeared before me. I believed then that my prayers had been answered. I was wheeled into emergency and just four hours later, in the early hours of Christmas Eve, I was discharged from the hospital and sent home as all signs of my illness had left my body and the second chance to continue my life had been granted. I call that my ‘miracle’. Adrian: What did you do to set up your Angel Network? Shane-Maree: I was inspired to produce hand-made Angels that would be given as a gift (Pay it Forward) to patients in hospitals as a sign of hope and with the realisation that I was fortunate enough to leave hospital and continue my life when others had not Autumn Edition 2013

been so lucky. I also believed in my heart that having been in the situation where one is clinging to life that it is hope that is needed at this most vulnerable time for both the patient and their loved ones who are all affected in their own way and in their own pain.

at the 7 network and newsreader Sharon Ghidella. I was touched by the spirits of the children at the Mudgeeraba Special School and, a few years ago, made a special effort to give an Angel of Hope as a gift to all their mothers for Mothers Day.

Adrian: When did you begin gifting your Angels of Hope.

Adrian: Who supports you in this community endeavour?

Shane-Maree: Very shortly after my recovery and return home I began making the Angels and giving them as a gift to people who crossed my path who I believed were in need of hope and care. In early 2000 my daughter was hospitalised and faced with her own health crisis at just one year old. During the weeks by her bedside I busied myself making the Angels and began visiting other young patients in the Brisbane Children’s Hospital and sharing the Angels with them. This was the start of my idea catching on, reaching larger numbers of people and continuing to grow. Five weeks later we returned home with our own angel who had fought the odds and had been given her 2nd chance to continue the journey of her life. I was once again inspired by the strength and resilience that my own daughter had within her and she became my personal Angel of Hope. I continued to give an Angel of Hope to 3 people each day and on Christmas Eve, the anniversary of my miracle, I would dress up in my halo and wings and visit patients in hospitals hoping to offer support, love and care through a random act of kindness from one stranger to another, at a time when I believed that they were most in need of hope.

Shane-Maree: I have been fortunate to secure support from Rotary Clubs, Bowls Clubs, Lions and Lioness Clubs, Jerry Saville Ministries, Hay House Australia, Crystalight at Byron, and Nimbin Candles. Individuals in the local community with their sponsorships and small businesses have also agreed to have stands of Angels on their counters in their shops enabling the cycle of gifting to continue.

Adrian: Where else do you give out your Angels of Hope? Shane-Maree: I have been a regular visitor to the Hopewell Hospice at Arundel, Tweed Heads Hospital and John Flynn Hospital at Tugun, as well as providing them to patients at Robina Hospital, Gold Coast Hospital, Ballina Hospital, Nimbin Community Hospital and Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane via their “Working Wonders Foundation”. They have been paid forward to the Daniel Morecombe Foundation, Paradise Kids at Arundel, Paradise Kids Africa, Salvation Army Stillwaters Shelter for Homeless Women, and have gone as far abroad as to reach children in orphanages in Bali, Cambodia and Achea. My dream was achieved when I sent 50 to Oprah Winfrey in support of her Angel network and closer to home, I gave them to Kerri-Anne Kennerley, The Sunrise Crew, Andrew O’Keefe (Deal or No Deal) Autumn Edition 2013

My greatest supporter was Mr Siimon Reynolds, Australia’s own Advertising Entrepreneur - best remembered by many for his successful awareness campaign for AIDS which featured the Grim Reaper. It was his personal belief in me and my idea of using Angels of Hope that touched his heart and confirmed for me that my project was worthy of going on with. To have received support from someone I respected and admired only inspired me further to reach out into the community for their support. If I could achieve what I had on my own, imagine what I could achieve with the help of others? I strongly believe that one of the greatest gifts we can give others is the knowledge that someone is thinking of them and wishing them love, hope and comfort from the heart. It has been proven thousands of times over that a ‘random act of kindness’ to a stranger can bring a smile to those unfortunate enough to not only be struggling with their illness, but are unsupported, fearful and alone – helping them to believe that someone does care about them. Adrian: How do you see this project expanding in the future? Shane-Maree: By inviting like-minded people to join me in Paying it Forward with Angels of Hope to people they believe may benefit from their ‘random act of kindness’. It isn’t hard for any of us to think of 3 people we know personally who may need hope and, at just $5 each, an Angel is cheaper than a bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates - the difference being that the Angel of Hope will be around much longer as a reminder that someone is thinking of them.

THE ANGEL OF HOPE! cont... Sporting clubs, schools and educational facilities, Girls Brigade, Brownies, Guides, Scout groups, Probus Clubs, radio and TV stations, funeral homes, businesses and individuals alike can all take up the challenge and join me in touching the hearts of thousands of people all over our country who need hope during times such as illness, economic downturn and loss of loved ones, when we allow our hearts and minds to be open to those less fortunate than ourselves. If our friends in the community cannot think of someone in their family circle, then I am sure I can assist them with some ideas such as hospitals, children’s hospitals, palliative care facilities and established foundations that I am already supporting. By purchasing or sponsoring 3 Angels of Hope and encouraging the recipients to do the same, it will enable the rapid growth of hope in our wider community. This is my way of continuing the cycle of ‘Paying it Forward’ with Angels of Hope so that it can grow and touch the hearts of thousands, even millions who are out there needing our love, care and support. Adrian: Shane-Maree, we at White Light Magazine and Gyspy’s Grotto would love to support your project and get those in our Spiritual Family to join us in the ongoing cycle of goodwill and gifting that you have started. As you suggested to me at our first meeting, I have since sat down and watched your favourite DVD, appropriately named ‘Pay it Forward’ with Helen Hunt, Kevin Spacey and Haley Joel Osmett and it gave me a clearer understanding of how the principle of Pay it Forward works and succeeds. I know the movie came out after you had already begun your work but it certainly helps your cause to refer people to that DVD so that they can grasp the larger picture

here and see the potential of unlimited growth and knowing the affect that one person’s ‘Random Act of Kindness’ can have on another. I can only see a bright and favourable future for your humanitarian project. The possibilities are endless when we make the conscious decision to think of others and actively follow through on our thoughts by being pro-active, as you have shown us today with the history of success you have had personally in gifting from your heart since your life changing experience in 1997. Congratulations to you for receiving the Rotary Sun Newspaper Community Crusader Award a few years ago which is where I first learnt about you and your Angel Network of gifting. Adrian: Shane-Maree we look forward to you being a regular visitor on weekends at the Gypsy’s Grotto in the Latin Quarter at Hope Island Markets where people can come along, meet you and, for those wishing to remember and savour the occasion, have a photo taken with our resident “Angel of Hope’ for just $5 and also have the opportunity of purchasing an Angel of Hope (or 3) at just $5 each so that they can Pay it Forward with their random act of kindness. For those unable to visit us in person, you can order your Angels of Hope by going to www.angelsofhope.com.au or phone or text her directly on 0437 445 238. Thank you for sharing your beautiful concept and story of successful gifting with us today and we look forward to having you as our special guest at the upcoming White Light Expos.
