EYES ON THE GUYS While everyone looks for the big reveal of the bride’s gown on the wedding day, there is no reason the groom should get left behind in the style department! “The bride is usually who everyone is looking at,” says Amanda Vereb, designer, seamstress, and owner of The Iron Horse Atelier. “Depending on the wedding theme and her dress, that is how you are going to dress the groom and groomsmen.” For any style, though, Vereb’s first rule of picking out wedding attire is the fit. “My No. 1 rule for men on their wedding day is fit, fit, fit. Without a well-tailored suit or tuxedo, they’re not going to look as polished and sharp.” Her second rule is to make the details pop. “Since classic black suits are timeless, it's becoming more trendy to work with embroidery or appliqué on lapels, patterned vests, embroidered suspenders, textured or embroidered shirts, and watches on chains,” says Vereb. And for those looking to make a bolder statement, go for a jacket or pants (or both!) in a deep hue like navy or emerald. HEY, MR. DJ! Planning a personalized reception? Don’t forget about the music and entertainment! DJ Sean of Ultimate Entertaining says a lot of couples are owning their first dance and putting their own unique spin on it. (He’s an expert at providing personalized music for choreographed first dances or grand entrances!) Another huge trend is having the couple’s monogram or fun light designs projected through uplighting on the wall behind the wedding party’s table or onto the dance floor. Looking for a way to take their talents and turn them into something that would beautifully impact others’ lives, local musicians Brooke Annibale and Judith Avers started writing custom songs for weddings and other occasions. “I originally advertised the sale for children’s songs, but it soon became apparent that people wanted personal songs for their loved ones or sweethearts just as much,” Avers explains. After collaborating with Annibale, the duo launched The Song Jar to connect to more people who wanted personalized songs to celebrate their love or to play at their wedding. The simple process asks for clients to fill out some details — the desired mood for the song, details of their love story, etc. — and the incredible artists take care of the rest. “Each song order is unique, and we strive to make each song as personal as we can. The final result is the culmination of your love story — woven with melody and words into a musical expression that no one else will ever possess or duplicate.” (Love that!) Special Ceremonies Love is always in the air at Heinz Memorial Chapel. “Last fiscal year alone, we hosted over 150 weddings,” says Assistant Director Wendy Lau. After the decision was made a little over a year ago to open the charming chapel to those not affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC, and Heinz, the venue has become an even more popular place to wed. “The fact that we also extended the booking period from up to one year in advance to two has also been beneficial,” Lau says. Engaged So they put a ring on it? Perfect! Now is the time to start getting your “look” in order and focus on positive health and wellness overall. The West Coast trend of infrared sauna pods made its way to Pittsburgh thanks to Haute Sauna Studio in the North Hills. Each relaxing, detoxifying session in a pod can burn up to 600 calories in just 30 minutes! These sweat sessions are great for anyone, but especially those about to head down

Co-owner Kelly Miller adds that brides and bridesmaids can also come together for an alternative bachelorette party, a detox after a bash, or time to relax together on the morning of the big day. Be photo-ready with some skincare staples and suggestions from Dr. Jim O’Toole of O’Toole Plastic Surgery. “When you first get engaged, start using a mild cleanser that’s good for any skin type, such as CeraVe or Cetaphil,” says Dr. O’Toole.
Implementing a sunscreen regimen is also very important. A high-quality formula with a slight tint for an uneven skintone is exactly what you need. Look for products made for your face with SPF 30-50, such as EltaMD or Olay Complete. You can touch up with powders that have SPF in them throughout the day, including Colorescience Sunforgettable, for extra protection. Dr. O’Toole also suggests smoothing fine lines with a retinol and using an exfoliant weekly for that perfect glow. Diet and exercise also play an important role in looking your best. Adding Omega-3s, decreasing sodium, and drinking green tea twice a day are simple additions that make a huge impact. “A handful of almonds at breakfast and consuming dark leafy greens, such as kale and watercress, are easy ways to up your diet,” says Dr. O’Toole. Remember that green tea you’re drinking? Let the bag cool, then use it on your lower eyelids to decrease puffiness. If tea isn’t your thing, Dr. O’Toole says a bag of frozen peas has the same effect!

You want to still look like yourself, just refreshed,” says Dr. O’Toole. “Everyone’s facial muscles are different, so it’s important to see how you react to the products.” If you like what you see, you can get one or both done again three to four months before your big day.
The first kiss as a married couple is a crucial moment in the ceremony. Give your lips some life with a lip augmentation with a cosmetic filler, such as Restylane Silk or Volbella, for just a bit of fullness without looking overdone. The results last for about six months, so it’s best to get it done nine months to a year before the wedding to ensure you get exactly what you want. “The sky was so dramatic, but I didn’t want to distract from the emotion these two exuded after their ceremony. The framing suggests they are in their own world. I loved the vintage style Rachel and Alex had in choosing their wedding details, so I tried to give them a timeless look without distraction. Weddings are all about the small moments that make up a bigger story. For this picture, we literally had to stop traffic. I set up a wireless off-camera light in the middle of the street and I had the groomsmen stalling traffic. The sun was setting, and we had about 30 seconds to capture the sunlight bouncing off the brick crosswalk. hatham, Cape Cod, is Addie Perkins’ favorite place in the world. Her family’s house there became a frequent spot for their summer vacations. So when Roger “R.K.” Galey planned his proposal to Addie, he knew just the place. “He fell to one knee, and I instantly started shaking,” Addie says of the beachy proposal. “I was so happy.” It wasn’t until they joined friends and family at the surprise engagement party afterwards that Addie learned R.K.’s sisters secretly photographed the entire proposal, too! “The day was a total dream.” Ten months later, the couple celebrated their dream wedding, which incorporated traditional elements with a few bohemian twists. Pops of pink, gold, and greenery stood out against the black and white color scheme, and Addie’s customized gown fit the theme perfectly. “Because the bottom was such a standout piece, I wanted to create a top that was elegant but also had a bohemian flare,” says Addie. The bride enlisted the help of local seamstress Jen Rocket to turn the Antonio Gual for Tulle New York skirt from Glitter & Grit into exactly what she had envisioned. Addie advises future couples to not sweat the details, and focus more on sharing the happiness of the day. “It’s an incredible feeling to know that these people were not only here to support my husband and me, but to share in our love and to celebrate with us.” W
Parrot tulips, Iceland poppies, coral charm peonies, anemones, hydrangeas, and soft trailing greenery filled the bride’s bouquet, created by Lauren Phillips of the Farmer’s Daughter. She even made Addie a sweet flower crown out of greenery and baby’s breath to wear on her big day!

W
hile scrolling through Twitter one day, Josh Himes came across a photo of country singer Brynn Marie. “I’m gonna marry that girl!” he said to himself. Josh then called Danger at Froggy Radio Pittsburgh, a friend who originally retweeted the photo that caught his eye, and was able to connect to his dream girl. At the time, she was living in Nashville and the professional boxer resided in Miami, but they were excited to learn they both grew up in the Pittsburgh area. “After spending a month talking on the phone every day for hours and hours, we fell in love,” Brynn says. “Once we finally met in person, we were forever attached.” Before they officially met, Josh invited Brynn’s father and her two brothers to see his boxing match in West Virginia. “This was so oldschool, and I loved it,” she recalls. Before the fight, her father told Josh he had to win in order to go on a date with Brynn. “Needless to say, he knocked the guy out and won the date. Exactly one year later was our wedding reception.” Magic Moments created the inspiration for the celebration, hosted by Bradys Run Lodge, bringing a shabby chic meets enchanting forest vibe with beautiful branches, soft lighting, and touches of blush. “Everything looked magnificent,” Brynn says. “Just like a fairy tale!” W

hen Alaire Chybrzynski first met Bradley Naedele at Slippery Rock University, she knew two things: that she needed to convert the Buffalo, N.Y., native into a Steelers fan and that he was her true love! After five years of dating — some of which was long distance — and a surprise, Christmastime proposal at Monterey Bay Fish Grotto, the couple started planning a special day that would exude Alaire’s vision of a classic and romantic celebration. Shades of purple, blue, and green filled the reception at Embassy Suites by Hilton Moon Township thanks to beautiful orchids, lisianthus, sweet peas, roses, and greenery set aglow by numerous candles. The color scheme carried through to the dessert table, too, as the couple cut into a raspberry and mango-filled cake, adorned by an edible, ombré flower. But Alaire stole the spotlight in a gorgeous, ivory Maggie Sottero sheath dress with crystals, pearls, and beading covering the bodice. “It was very light, flowy, and romantic.” Putting her creative, DIY skills to good use, Alaire ensured the atmosphere at the festivities reflected their personalities while also staying within a reasonable budget for their 150-guest get-together. “Every wedding is special,” she reflects, “and you can plan a beautiful wedding on a smaller budget like we did.” W Alaire’s favorite memory was standing in St. Maurice Parish and hearing the melody that would play as she came down the aisle. The arrangement was written just for her moment!

ove was in full bloom on Cassie Fickley and Dylan Holt’s wedding day, which featured a garden theme with romantic, bohemian touches. After the ceremony at Heinz Memorial Chapel, where the bride walked down the aisle to the acoustic version of “Latch” by Sam Smith, guests made their way to the patio reception at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Incorporating dusty blue, sage, champagne, and peach, the space became an idyllic setting for the al fresco celebration. Green garland table runners, punctuated by white flowers and pillar candles, added to the theme, along with the naked cake, adorned with peach florals. Guests even went home with packets of wild flower seeds with tags that said “Watch Love Grow.” The couple’s “beautiful day shared with close family and friends” was highlighted by even more special surprises, including Cassie serving up a groom’s cake at the rehearsal dinner and Dylan placing a glass cardinal on their sweetheart table in remembrance of Cassie’s late grandmother. “Surprises like these allowed us to enjoy special moments together, just the two of us.” W

lanning an early fall wedding quickly became a family affair for Robin Ranii and Megan Mooney. Hearts and Flowers Floral Design Studio, where Robin’s mother works, provided the flowers for the day at Rustic Acres Farm, which incorporated warm touches of gold and marsala. And Megan’s brother served as the evening’s DJ. The brides walked down the aisle in dresses that matched their individual styles but were both from The Exquisite Bride. “It was purely by coincidence,” Robin says. After exchanging vows in front of 85 loved ones, the newlyweds dined on a delicious spread from JPC Event Group and not one, but two cakes! “One cake was for the group, which came from Eadie’s Market & Catering — a place that has Megan’s heart — while the cake we cut came from Bella Christie and Lil’ Z’s Sweet Boutique,” Robin says. The couple jetted off to Italy for a food-and-wine tour honeymoon, and came back feeling relaxed and ready to get married again! “If we could, we would want to renew our vows every year and recreate the wedding,” says Robin. “It felt very natural, and we couldn’t have had a better time!” W With their fiveyear anniversary approaching, Megan whisked Robin away to Chicago for a surprise trip, which included dinner at Alinea, a Michelin-starred restaurant. “After the best meal of our entire lives, we went back to the hotel where she popped the question in the privacy of our room,” Robin says.
Robin advises future couples to, “keep it simple, keep it reasonable, and listen to each other.”
Their six bridesmaids picked out their own dresses, with one rule in mind: “As long as they were gold, that was all that mattered.”

he love story of Megan Deviney and Steven Aeschbach began at the University of Oklahoma. Megan fell for the cutest Australian Shepherd, before meeting the dog’s handsome owner, Steven. It was puppy love at first sight! Job offers brought the engineers to Pittsburgh, and after a Mt. Washington proposal, the couple started planning a wedding that would introduce their out-of-town guests to the breathtaking views of Pennsylvania. “The scenery in Pittsburgh is completely different from Oklahoma and Texas, where we are from, so we really wanted to show that off,” says Megan. They ventured just outside the city to The Barn at Fallingwater for a funfilled celebration. After the gorgeous outdoor ceremony, the newlyweds and their 40 guests took advantage of Ohiopyle State Park’s offerings and went white water rafting! Throughout the reception, giant Jenga, cornhole, and a s’mores bar were enjoyed in between dancing to “music junkie” Steven’s carefully curated playlist. lthough they currently reside in San Francisco, Pittsburgh is a meaningful city for Preethi Raju and Ben Gotow. “He was born there, and it was one of the first cities I visited when I moved to America,” says Preethi, who met Ben when they attended grad school at Carnegie Mellon University together. “When it came time to decide where to have the wedding, we wanted to bring the party back to Pittsburgh.” The party accomplished the couple’s goals of being “personal but also really fresh” with a day at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens that beautifully combined their cultures and family traditions. Preethi and her bridesmaids wore saris in complementing pink, blue, and purple hues, while Ben and his groomsmen wore suits. “We both did what we were comfortable with,” she says. “We brought it together that way.” The couple celebrated with an Indian ceremony, then exchanged vows the Western way. To honor Ben’s Japanese heritage, Preethi handmade 1,000 paper cranes to fill the reception space, based on the tradition that doing so makes wishes come true. The crafty bride also laser-cut all of the table signs, and her friend illustrated the couple’s programs and SnapChat filter. The colorful celebration popped against the plum linens and light floral arrangements in the Tropical Forest Conservatory & Special Events Hall, as their 120 guests enjoyed a dynamic spread of Indian and American food stations and dancing to an eclectic playlist. “After the reception, we walked through the Tropical Forest Conservatory and all of our guests had sparklers,” Preethi says. “It was a great end to the day.” W
Guests kept cool with fresh coconut water during cocktail hour. The Indian ceremony, which involved both sets of parents, began with the couple’s guy friends lifting them up to exchange garlands.

hen family friends Annika Mancini and Lee Tenace reconnected one night in the South Side, she knew they would be married someday. “I whispered in his ear, ‘Meet me at the altar, Tenace,’” Annika recalls. Eighteen months later, he did just that. While on a trip in Hawaii, he took Annika to a chapel near their resort, walked her up to the altar, and proposed. On their wedding day, Annika made her way to the altar on the rooftop of Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh in a strapless Monique Lhuillier gown, while violinist Roddy Chong of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra played “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. After the classic ceremony, Annika and Lee were ready to celebrate! Lee surprised his bride and their nearly 200 guests with his own dance to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” Annika says, “Justin is his man crush, so he busted a move [to him], while I sat with the biggest smile on my face.” Other sweet moments of the big day included an almond-flavored cake with a raspberry filling and buttercream frosting, topped with “Better Together,” and goodies from the traditional Pittsburgh cookie table. The couple also made their own version of the Stanley Cup to collect cards and honor the Pittsburgh Penguins’ victorious season. It was a winning weekend for all! W
Annika’s chic bouquet of white roses complemented her gorgeous, French lace gown. “They are my favorite, and Lee always buys me roses for every occasion,” says Annika.
“You will have so many opinions and people will try to guide you along the way, but this is one of the biggest days of your life,” says Annika. She advises other couples to do things exactly the way they want! Annika and Lee made bottles of wine for their guests, which served as favors and place cards. Lee’s father bought the grapes from California before the ninemonth wine-making process.

ears after sharing a high school summer job at Avonworth Community Park, classmates Amanda Ackerman and Earl Graff were reunited and began dating. Just over two years later, Earl planned an Easter weekend proposal, complete with a stunning Fabergé Easter egg to present the ring in! Inspired by the pastel proposal, the couple wanted their wedding to be painted in peach and gold. The color scheme flowed throughout the Shannopin Country Club, along with touches of tulle and fun polka dots. Amanda’s tulle ballgown with a sheer lace scroll bodice and illusion neckline brought the theme full-circle. Her gown twirled across the dance floor during the couple’s first dance to “Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. “We took private dance lessons, and surprised our guests with a foxtrot,” says Amanda. Their 200-plus guests also enjoyed the triple-layer almond cake with mango filling and raspberry buttercream. The whiteon-white, polka dot cake was adorned with a few fresh peach flowers. For future couples hoping to make sure their day is “just peachy,” too, Amanda says, “Stop what you’re doing periodically throughout your wedding day to look around and enjoy each moment.” W

raveling is a passion for Ashlee Beckett, who teaches global geography and has visited over 40 countries. When she first met John Giovanis, she was excited to hear he planned on attending the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. “I thought, ‘Oh great! He travels!’” Ashlee recalls. “Then he said that he just got his passport for this trip.” After over a year of dating, John earned some more stamps in that passport when the couple decided to have a destination wedding in Greece. “He’s 100 percent Greek, and I love to travel, so we thought — why not? Let’s make an adventure out of it!” Ashlee and John embraced the country’s traditions throughout the day in Santorini, Greece. In a breathtaking gown with pearls on the bodice, Ashlee walked with her parents and friends from the base of the island, Imerovigli, up the path to the church. Greek musicians played behind the group, as they made their way to John, who presented his bride with a bouquet of roses, hydrangeas, peonies, and olive branches — “for a little Greek flare.” After saying “I do,” the newlyweds joined their 35 guests — and two adorable donkeys! — for a reception with authentic Greek food and dancing, plus an amazing fireworks display over the water. The fun continued over the next few days, allowing Ashlee and John to take in the amazing sights and culture of Greece with their loved ones. “Instead of one fun day, we got a memorable week with people we love,” Ashlee says. “We’re so happy we went with this route.” W
“Just go with what your heart wants,” Ashlee says of wedding planning. “It will all be worth it in the end.”

aty Dorman and Kyle Werner attended the same high school together, but didn’t officially begin dating until the summer before Katy left for college. “Kyle was two years ahead of me in high school, so we had some mutual acquaintances but different circles of friends,” Katy explains. Something sparked between the two when they crossed paths again at a Fourth of July party, and they went on to date for over seven years. Sparks flew again — literally! — when Kyle proposed to Katy halfway through a fireworks show they were enjoying while on vacation in Myrtle Beach, S.C. “It was the only time in almost eight years of dating he was able to keep a secret and truly surprise me,” says Katy. They were also happily surprised when loved ones from 15 different states came to celebrate at the Heinz Memorial Chapel ceremony and Pittsburgh Athletic Association reception. “The overwhelming sense of love and happiness we felt for one another and the people near and dear to us in attendance was incredible,” Katy says. “It was a truly perfect day that we never wanted to end.” W Dan + Shay’s “From the Ground Up” played during Katy and Kyle’s first dance as husband and wife.

ttending colleges in different states, with 455 miles between them, proved to be the ultimate test of the love between Natalie Herrington and Brian Baum. But the couple passed with flying colors! Brian’s transfer from Indiana University Bloomington to Penn State University during their junior year cut the commute to Natalie at Allegheny College in half, and they were able to spend more time together during their final two years before graduation. Three years after that, while on a ski trip in Vail, Colo., Brian proposed to Natalie at the top of a breathtaking, snowy mountain. They wed before 250 loved ones at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Hall of Sculptures. The couple adored the space’s natural lighting and double tier of columns, which were modeled after the Parthenon’s inner sanctuary. Their celebration continued with a reception in the Carnegie Museum of Art, Music Hall, where Brian surprised his bride by being the one to choose their first dance song: “A Drop in the Ocean” by Ron Pope. “As soon as I heard the song, I started to cry,” Natalie says. “The song is significant to us because we were apart our first four years of dating, and the song is about missing someone and never losing hope that you will end up together.” After the sweet moment, the couple recalls looking up at the balcony, where their guests had gathered to watch the first dance. “It was one of our favorite moments, looking up at our family and friends,” Natalie says. “We were so overwhelmed by how many people were there to support us on the special day. lthough they ended things in middle school when “they became too busy with sports,” Lynn Buffoni and Fino Caliguire tried dating again in 11th grade. This time, the sweethearts fell seriously in love and went on to date for seven years. Looking to celebrate with a day that fit their fun, unique personalities, the couple made plans for an elegant, Italian-inspired wedding. The day began with a traditional ceremony at Saint Mary of the Mount Parish, where Lynn walked down the aisle, arm-in-arm with her mother, in a champagne, mermaid-style gown. “I wanted a dress that made me feel like I could really celebrate and have fun at my reception, while still looking like a wedding dress for our ceremony,” she says. “It really was the best of both worlds.” Bright, lemon-colored bouquets popped against the navy blue bridesmaids’ dresses at the ceremony, while the actual fruit was worked into the centerpieces and table numbers at the Jay Verno Studios reception. Everyone even toasted with homemade limoncello, instead of Champagne, after the maid of honor and best man gave their speeches. Lynn and Fino got things started on the dance floor, sharing a sweet moment as Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight” played. Then their guests — who were fueled by the coffee and espresso bar provided by La Prima Espresso Company — kept the dance party rocking the rest of the evening. W

hen deciding on a venue to host their summer nuptials, Dan Rossi and Dr. Ed Garofolo looked no further than the beautiful backyard of their Fox Chapel home — which happens to overlook the Allegheny River, no less. Dan and Ed, who met 25 years ago at Carnegie Mellon University, began dating back in 2014 and have been inseparable ever since. The couple got engaged shortly after, as Dan recounts, “Ed proposed after dinner on Ellsworth Avenue in Shadyside next to our car. It was very impromptu, but incredibly romantic.” While there were many details to sort out for their big day, keeping it small and intimate was a main priority. “We invited 70 close friends and relatives, with four total in our wedding party,” Dan continues. Needless to say, the warm celebration went off without a hitch. “The best memory of the day was looking around during the ceremony and seeing all of our family and friends there supporting us,” Dan says. Next on the agenda for the newlyweds was a honeymoon in Aruba — an everlasting romance already setting sail into the sunset. “We were married at my family church [Nazarene Baptist Church] where the pastor is my cousin,” says Sabrina, who wore two dresses for the special day — one for the ceremony and one for the reception.
“The Hotel Indigo Pittsburgh East Liberty was not just our host hotel for guests, but we also held the rehearsal dinner there and came back to the hotel bar with three other wedding parties after the reception,” Sabrina says. “Choose a hotel or location that fits all your needs and style. abrina Saunders and Brandon Mosby never officially met, even though many opportunities to do so presented themselves throughout the years. “Our best friends married each other, Brandon attended Central Catholic at the same time that I attended Oakland Catholic, and we were even guests at the same wedding almost 10 years ago,” says Sabrina. It wasn’t until Brandon recognized her at a funeral, where he was working as the funeral director, that he went over to catch up. Once they had finally connected, Sabrina and Brandon were inseparable! After a few years of dating, they planned a trip to the Omni Bedford Springs Resort & Spa to celebrate Brandon’s birthday. “Before we left to get on the road, he was so anxious and excited that he couldn’t wait,” Sabrina says. “He handed me a huge pink box. nce upon a time, Eric Patton, Jr. caught Megan Hoffman’s eye at the Church of the Resurrection’s neighborhood carnival. A friendship developed between the Brookline natives, which blossomed into an eight-year courtship. When their daughter, Annabella, was born, Eric decided to make the monumental day even more special. “As the nurses bundled up Annabella, everyone began to come in and visit,” Megan explains. “As I’m looking down at her in awe, nothing ever seemed so perfect. Everyone around me began to move. And as I looked up at the people I love surrounding me, Eric was at my bedside on one knee.” Megan, of course, said yes to her Prince Charming, and once Annabella was old enough to join in the celebration, too, the couple shared a fairy tale-themed wedding day. Wearing a satin, A-Line gown with pearl and sequin embellishments, Megan exchanged vows with Eric at the St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Then, they joined Annabella for a carriage ride before the reception at The Fez. “Walking through all of our guests as they blew bubbles [outside of the church] while we walked to get on our horse-drawn, Cinderella carriage would be my favorite memory from my wedding day,” Megan says. And they live happily ever after. W

ulie Sfanos and Jack Surma met on the first day of their MBA program at Carnegie Mellon University. After two years of dating, Jack popped the question during a morning run on the beach while vacationing with his family in Sea Island, Ga. “He called ahead to me,” Julie explains, and “when I turned around, he was on one knee!” The couple faced the challenge of planning a wedding in Pittsburgh while Jack resided in New Jersey and they both were working on completing their master’s degrees. Everything came together beautifully, with shades of blush, pale pink, and ivory to highlight the desired romantic feel. Guests got to know Julie and Jack a little better during the cocktail hour, as their napkins listed fun facts about the couple and puzzles with their photos were also on display. And since the bride and groom have the same initials, guests were encouraged to share photos with the couple’s official wedding hashtag: ( JMS)^2=1. One of the most thoughtful elements of the day was the dinner. “We were very involved in designing our menu and our food was absolutely amazing,” Julie says. The beautiful, three-tiered cake included gluten-free carrot cake with cream cheese filling, white cake with a raspberry filling, and white cake with coconut cream filling. After dessert, the couple joined their 220 guests outside for a surprise fireworks display! Justin’s family owns the lavender, berry, and flower farm, which also serves as an indoor and outdoor wedding venue. “We wanted an outdoor venue, and Destiny Hill Farm is a gorgeous wedding venue,” Joelle says. “We would have wanted to get married there even without the family connection.” Joelle looked stunning on the big day in a lace, mermaid-style gown with beautiful beading and embellishments along the sweetheart neckline. Her train glided behind her as she walked down the aisle to the love of her life at their outdoor ceremony. After saying “I do” beneath the space’s signature green pergola, which was adorned with a floral garland, the couple celebrated with 200 loved ones in the Show Barn. Joelle’s favorite color, teal, bedecked the reception space, along with stunning arrangements of white and pink florals with pops of greenery. Nancy Cameron, Justin’s mother and Destiny Hill Farm’s owner/florist, perfected the couple’s vision for the centerpieces and bouquets. “Nancy and her floral team are incredible,” Joelle says. “It all came together better than we could have imaged.” The couple shared more beautiful moments throughout the day, including Justin surprising Joelle by displaying photos of their families at the reception and the couple’s first dance to “Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett. “The whole day, really, was fantastic.” W The adventurous couple got engaged while boating on Cheat Lake. When the boat came around to pick up Joelle, who had been surfing the waves behind it, she saw Justin on one knee with a ring!
“Justin’s dad built the beautiful archway, and the floral team made a canopy on top,” Joelle says. “I was completely blown away.”

lthough they both grew up in the Pittsburgh area and both moved to Washington, D.C., after graduating college, Carolyn Brodbeck and Matthew Lachman didn’t officially meet until mutual friends made an introduction. “[We] quickly connected after finding out that we were both from Pittsburgh and were Steelers fans,” Carolyn says. The destined pair went on to date for over five years, then returned home to the Steel City to celebrate their love. They both crown Carolyn’s walk down the aisle as their favorite memory of the day. “We decided not to do the ‘first look,’ so we were seeing each other for the first time that day,” Carolyn says of the moment. “It was heartwarming to be surrounded by our families and friends.” Over 200 loved ones then made their way to the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh reception, which glowed with gold and silver décor, brightened with pops of blue and yellow. The newlyweds shared a touching first dance to “If I Should Fall Behind” by Bruce Springsteen, but the sweetest part of the night was easily the dessert. “Matthew was determined to have a chocolate, chocolate cake,” Carolyn says. She agreed — as long as it had strawberries on top! n Christmas morning, Leslie Wiernik received the best gift of all: a proposal from John Katich! “I love that he included my family in such a special moment,” Leslie says of the sweet surprise. When it came time to plan their celebration, the couple chose to do so in much warmer weather. The couple said “I do” at Le Blanc Spa Resort in La Isla Cancun, Mexico. Leslie walked down the aisle of the indoor ceremony space in an exquisite, lace Reem Acra gown for a light, elegant look. The classic feel for the day continued at the reception, where a neutral color scheme carried out by white roses, gold décor, and colorful uplighting let the natural beauty of the resort shine. Playing up the beach vibes, the couple served a fourtiered chocolate cake with raspberry filling, covered in decorative pearls and cascading orchids, and topped with a starfish and seashells. Over 30 guests who traveled for the nuptials watched the couple’s love story unfold as they moved across the dance floor to Sam Smith’s “Nirvana.” For other couples interested in hosting their own destination weddings, Leslie says, “Go for it!” She adds, “Your wedding day is about being true to the two of you and how you’d like to remember celebrating being married to the person you love.” W
“Aside from marrying the man I love, [my favorite memory was] looking around the room at all of the people who traveled to be with us to celebrate and being filled with such gratitude,” Leslie says.

ove is sweet, especially for Jennifer Casey and Justin Tyburski. After four years of dating, the couple went to her parents’ house to have cake for Justin’s birthday. “My mom took the cake out of the refrigerator and placed it on the table, opened the box, and it read ‘Will You Marry Me?’” The tasty proposal was just the beginning of a sweet happily ever after. They celebrated their summer wedding at The Club at Nevillewood, a venue that won them over after just one meeting. “We immediately fell in love with the ballroom and outdoor patio,” Jennifer says. “We liked that there were multiple balconies off the ballroom, so our guests could go outside and look at the beautiful golf course.” During the reception, guests enjoyed a choice of white cake with raspberry filling, red devil’s food cake, or carrot cake, served with or without ice cream. But the icing on the eventful evening for Jennifer was “sitting at the sweetheart table, eating dinner together as husband and wife while reminiscing about the day.” The couple danced the rest of the night away on the packed ballroom floor before heading to Clearwater, Fla., for their honeymoon getaway. “There are so many details, so stay organized and do not sweat the little stuff,” Jennifer says. “Something will probably go wrong, but in the end, make sure to laugh it off.”
“Six weeks before the wedding, my mom was diagnosed with cancer,” Jennifer says. “Justin was my rock through everything and my shoulder to cry on. I knew I was marrying the man of my dreams with the way he helped us through the devastating news.” And she’s happy to report her mother is now cancer free!

J.R. proposed to Brittany with a scrapbook of keepsakes and photos collected throughout their relationship. When she turned to the final page, she saw the iconic Kate Spade “Mrs.” necklace hanging in the back of the book and J.R. down on one knee with a ring.
.R. Kenna first caught Brittany Firman’s eye during college, but it wasn’t until four years later, when the pair connected at a New Year’s Eve party, that sparks really began to fly. After almost three years of dating, the engaged couple started planning a wedding day that was just as magical, keeping a classic feel with a blush, black, and white color scheme. The floral arrangements overflowed with a mix of ivory hydrangeas and mums, blush Sahara roses, and loose greenery. Brittany carried a similar bouquet as she walked down the aisle in an ivory A-Line dress. fter dating eight years, adopting two dogs, and buying a condo together, Krista Stachelek and Dennis Lippert, Jr. were ready to take the next step: marriage. They became husband and wife on a warm summer day at Succop Nature Park. “We went the non-traditional route and did a self-uniting ceremony, which allowed one of our good friends to run it,” Krista says. “In addition, the ceremony script was compiled by us and included personal messages.” After the outdoor celebration, 135 guests marveled at the reception space, decorated by the bride and groom. hen Brian Picard’s coworker set him up with one of her friends, Beth Conti, the pair immediately hit it off. One year of dating and one beautiful, lakeside proposal later, the couple enlisted Alexis Maddox of Shayla Hawkins Events to help them plan their big day. “We enjoyed the whole entire planning process,” Beth says. “I know some people get excited for the planning to be over, but we enjoyed it! Alexis and her team were the main reason why. They definitely got our vision.” Their vision included a day decorated with metallic and pink accents, and plenty of personal touches mixed in. The Calvary United Methodist Church ceremony incorporated stories about their families, making their union even more special. “We both loved our sermon.” Beth dazzled in a formfitting Black Label Anne Barge gown, which was the first dress she tried on. “I decided a few weeks before the wedding that I wanted a second dress,” Beth says. “My first dress was big and bridal, but I also wanted something more party-like for the reception.” She pulled off both looks beautifully, and encourages other couples to “ignore the rules” and create a day unique the themselves, too. “There are so many cookie-cutter things out there for weddings,” Beth says. “But it’s more fun to make your own mold.” W “Don’t lose track of the big picture — the whole reason behind all the planning and everything,” Beth says. “There’s so much to be happy about on your wedding day.”

Beth and Brian braved the rain to take outdoor “first look” photos before the ceremony. “I loved that it was just us for a little bit,” she says. “I would do that moment again and again.” “I love the mixed-metal look,” Beth says. Instead of cutting a tiered cake, the couple served sorbet and presented a decadent spread of desserts, including cake pops, donuts, cotton candy, and Sour Patch Kids.

amily played a major role in the wedding of Camille Davidson and Lance Woods, starting with the proposal. After nine years of dating, including a few years long-distance while Lance was stationed in Afghanistan, the couple went kayaking on the North Shore with Camille’s nieces. While back on land, Camille noticed Lance’s brothers were on the bridge holding a sign that said, “Will you marry me, Camille?” She turned to find Lance down on one knee. And after she said yes, she turned around again to see 20 family members who came out to celebrate! Both families united for a destination wedding in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, where Camille’s grandmother grew up and some of her loved ones still reside. “I wanted to draw out the elements of Puerto Rican culture into the wedding,” Camille says. They did just that, with Puerto Rico’s own Pancho Irizarray performing at the ceremony, a traditional cigar roller at the reception, and homegrown Puerto Rican coffee gifted as favors. The colorful décor popped with purple florals and a stunning, gold-painted cake that matched the venue’s metallic elements. As an even sweeter surprise for the 170 guests, folklore characters, known as “zanqueros,” made an appearance at the reception. “I knew that they were coming, but no one else knew,” Camille says. “They got everyone moving and dancing.” For future couples looking to take the destination route, Camille says the best thing you can do is find a planner on the grounds who can set everything up for you. essica Lukac and Eric Shultz wanted to create a personal and unique celebration that encompassed all of their favorite things about Pittsburgh. From the venues to the vendors, each selection had a special meaning or memory for the couple. Jessica and Eric chose to wed at the South Terrace of the Convention Center, which was like a “backyard wedding” off of their Penn Avenue condo. “Because we knew the area, we could be strategic and use a lot of different backdrops within a few blocks of the ceremony site,” Jessica says of the photo shoot before their Mattress Factory reception, complete with a fleet of food trucks. One of their favorite stops was Randyland on the North Side, where owner Randy Gilson welcomed the newlyweds and even posed for a few photos with them, too! “The colorful locations reflected the joy of the day.” W
