Castle Park Golf Club
Edinburgh is a city famed for its sense of humour, fun and friendliness; themes that seem to have diffused into the local people who inhabit its surrounding areas. Castle Park Golf Club, located just 20 minutes from the historic city centre, seems to personify these traits, offering unforgettable golfing experiences to visitors that they have been unable to keep to themselves! With glowing reviews, the club referred to as the “Gleneagles of the south”, has been rapidly growing in membership owing to its quirky layout and impeccably maintained grounds Edinburgh is a stunning city, overflowing with energy and tradition alike. With a history stretching back as far as the 12th century, the Scottish capital has both a splendid medieval old town, and a Georgian new town providing the perfect balance between culture and modernisation. With an impressive castle, and a mythical dormant volcano (Arthur’s Seat) looming over the city, Edinburgh has earned its place as the place to visit in Scotland. The Castle Park Golf Club, however boasts a local castle much smaller but with equal if not greater fascination. Yester Castle, built only a century after Edinburgh’s Castle, is home to the eerie underground Goblin lair, said to be used by a Scottish Knight for sorcery. Evidently the area is not short of places of interest, and would make the ideal spot for a long weekend away, incorporating; golf, culture, exploration and shopping.
The course itself, is a tale of two halves with an 18-hole course made up of two nines, each with their own personalities. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Lammermuir Hills, with stunning views and serenity, this course is one that is bound to make you smile. If the course itself wasn’t enough, the incredibly friendly and welcoming staff, based in a newly refurbished clubhouse, will ensure that your day out is one to remember.
The course is both tranquil and incredibly accessible, meaning that any prospective golfing tours need not travel for hours to finally find some peace and quiet. The course provides a sense of shelter from the chaotic nineto-five life of the modern man, allowing him (or her) to focus on their game and keep chipping away at their handicaps. Reviews of the course nearly always praise the impeccably maintained greens and tees, and the rate at which people can’t wait to return to play the course again and again, is testimony to the hard word the club has done in recent years to provide an outstanding golfing experience. The course hosts a range of competitions, providing a challenge to golfers of all levels and comes with a brand-new driving range. With a cluster of high standard golf courses neighbouring Castle Park Golf Club, this area would make an ideal place for any touring golf societies. Mark our words, Castle Park Golf Club is one that really sticks out above others in its area, and is one to watch over the coming years, as more and more people catch wind of the incredible experience available there all year round.

Scotland’s rolling hills, stunning coastlines and dense parklands, are known to hide some of the UK’s best golf courses; Kilspindie Golf Club is amongst one of these. As one might expect from a traditional Scottish links, it lies immediately on the coast and is host to a range of wildlife including seals and migratory geese. The views here are particularly stunning; on a clear day you may well make out Edinburgh Castle, which lies less than an hour away by car. Without a doubt, this is one of few courses for which it can be said that its outstanding quality is matched by its outstanding beauty. Edinburgh is a city famed for its sense of humour, friendliness and inclusivity. With famous festivals, dormant volcanos and world-renowned museums, the Scottish capital more than holds its own with the other great capitals of Europe. For a long weekend away, you would be hard pressed to find a city with as much culture, shopping and history as Edinburgh; this makes it the perfect city break for couples and golf societies alike.
More locally to Kilspindie Golf Club, Aberlady nature reserve – one of the first of its kind in the area, has been dedicated to keeping this particular stretch of coast around Aberlady Bay, untainted by human influence for over half a century. The diverse wildlife, both animals and wild flowers, offer visitors a chance to really become reacquainted with the beauty of the landscape, as well as a serenity that is all too seldom achieved in our busy modern lives. Kilspindie is reputed to be the 35th oldest golf club in the world, instituted in 1867 and with between 27-28 thousand pairs of feet enjoying these links every year, the club’s success is testament to its lasting design and layout. It’s challenging but is a clear favourite of many who have played it, with quick greens and well-defined fairways. It is a club proud of its history, even hosting an alternative Ryder Cup, with 12-man teams playing with pre1930’s hickory shafted clubs.
Whilst the course has remained largely unchanged, the clubhouse has been expanding to deal with the demands of the modern golfer. Whilst maintaining its charm and personality; it still has its original “Gentleman’s Locker Room and Bar”; the clubhouse is now able to cater for a range of events with style and comfort. Whilst the bar might be small, its stock is not, boasting an excellent array of beverages including over 80 different malt whiskeys (although we recommend you spread these out over a few visits). Warmth and friendliness lie at the heart of this club, and comments such as this find their way into almost every review. Visitors pay the same as members for food and drink; it is clear that Kilspindie Golf Club want to create an open community of golfers all of whom are drawn to the club by the same things; an incredible course in a stunning environment. It is no wonder, so many people are drawn back year after year and Kilspindie is recognised locally, nationally and internationally as a hidden gem of Scotland.
