Designed by one of the grand-masters of golf course architecture, James Braid (1870-1950), “The Boat” is set alongside the River Spey in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, only 10 minutes drive from the bustling village of Aviemore. The course is not only renowned as a demanding test of sporting skill but also as a magnificent setting for the game. Braid’s design features 18 completely individual holes, cleverly and sensitively shaped fairways lined by birch trees, heather and broom, maximising the natural landscape and producing a beautiful and challenging course.

Golf was first played over six holes at Boat of Garten Golf Club in 1898. Since this time, the golf course has been extensively redesigned by legendary golf course architect, James Braid; who extended the course to the eighteen holes that can be enjoyed today in 1930. ‘The Boat’ is set alongside the River Spey in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, ten minutes from the village of Aviemore. The course represents a demanding test of golfing skill but is also a magnificent setting for the game comprising eighteen completely unique golf holes offering their own individual golfing challenges. The shaped fairways, heather and broom of The Boat make it a scenic experience whilst maximising the natural landscape and beautiful countryside that surrounds it. The Boat of Garten’s well-appointed clubhouse offers excellent catering options with daily changing menus and a choice of delicious lunches. 2012 saw large-scale changes made to the clubhouse facilities with the addition of gents and ladies’ changing rooms and an extension to the professional shop and lounge areas.

Today, the clubhouse can comfortably cater for larger social and formal events throughout the year. Set on the Club’s 9-hole practice putting green, it is ideal for relaxation pre or post round, enjoying a bite to eat or drinks with friends. Golf societies are welcome at Boat of Garten Golf Club throughout the year. The Club offer a range of packages which can be tailored to meet the needs and budgets of the visiting party.
