'Gleneagles of The Midlands'
One of the smaller counties in central England, there are plenty or resorts and golf courses in Herefordshire and the River Wye area. The beautiful rolling landscape, bustling towns and fantastic ‘stay and play’ venues mean that golf in Herefordshire is increasingly in-demand. A beautiful county with some of the most breathtaking countryside in the United Kingdom, Herefordshire has something for everyone, from quality produce for the foodies, rock faces and the River Wye rapids for the adrenalin seekers amongst us; many festivals, celebrations and an array of fine inland golf courses. The region is also awash with wonderful hotels, guest houses, bed & breakfasts and farm houses offering reasonably priced accommodation. There are a number of different restaurants and eateries. With all this in mind, it is no surprise that visitors return to Herefordshire year-after-year. The county is the perfect destination for a golf break.
First established in 1896, The Herefordshire Golf Club is recognised as the oldest golf club in the county. The golf club later moved to its present location on the Raven’s Causeway in 1932 – the setting is enjoyed by so many today. A special location, the Raven’s Causeway site was founded by legendary golf course architect, James Braid who was instructed to create the eighteen hole layout. Whilst strolling the fairways of The Herefordshire, visitors can take in far-reaching views of the surrounding Herefordshire and Worcestershire countryside and beyond to the Shropshire Hills, the Brecon Beacons and the Malverns.
The par 70 golf course, which measures 6,055 yards from the championship tees, is described by many as the ‘Gleneagles of The Midlands’, the Herefordshire course represents a great test of golf for all ages and all levels of player with challenges from the first tee to the last green. The Herefordshire Golf Club’s sizeable clubhouse can cater for up to 160 people with stunning panoramic views from every window. The clubhouse building comprises comfortable lounge areas and a well stocked Spike bar - which is situated next to the practice putting green the ideal location for a relaxing pre or post round drink.
Societies are welcome to The Herefordshire throughout the year. A memorable day’s golf at a fantastic and breath-taking venue can be enjoyed through a good variety of summer and winter golf packages which can be tailored to meet the needs and requirements of the visiting party. Packages combine 18-holes of championship golf on The Herefordshire course with excellent dining options, from as simple as a bacon roll and coffee on arrival to a more formal two or three course dinner following a round.
