Legends Tour 2022 Stats Prove SkyCaddie GPS Is For Winners

HADDENHAM, UK - - The majority of competitors on the 2022 Legends Tour used SkyCaddie GPS distance measuring devices (DMDs) for their yardages, as shown in figures released today.

The overwhelming message from the 2022 Tour is that winners use a SkyCaddie.

On average, SkyCaddie GPS users made up over two-thirds of the field in 2022 Legends Tour events where DMDs were permitted, scoring 8 wins and 14 runner-up spots.

In these events SkyCaddie users scored 64% of all Top Ten and ties finishes, and occupied 13 of the Top 20 places in the final 2022 Legends Tour Order of Merit – with South African golfer and SkyCaddie GPS user James Kingston securing the John Jacobs Trophy for winning last year’s overall OOM.

In the season’s final event, the MCB Tour Championship – Mauritius in December, SkyCaddie GPS users took 8 of the Top 10 and ties spots.

Three-time European Tour winner Joakim Haeggmann, who won last month’s MCB Tour Championship – Seychelles, said: “I use SkyCaddie every day in every tournament, for tee shots, carries, layups, bunkers, greens and planning the hole ahead.”

Major-winners Darren Clarke, Ian Woosnam, Michael Campbell, Paul Lawrie and John Daly all used SkyCaddie GPS during the 2022 season, as did former Ryder Cup stars Peter Baker, Niclas Fasth, David Gilford, Joakim Haeggmann, Mark James, Philip Price, Steven Richardson, Jarmo Sandelin, Jean Van De Velde and the late Barry Lane.

Tee off and raise funds for UHNM Charity Golf Day

Kind-hearted people from Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding businesses have united to raise much needed funds for University Hospitals of North Midlands Charity to buy cutting edge equipment to benefit patients requiring complex brain tumour surgery.

18 teams took part in a fundraising corporate golf day organised by Barlaston Golf Club to raise cash for the equipment which will enable Royal Stoke University Hospital’s surgeons to precisely target all areas of a tumour. The kit includes a surgical magnifying camera system and a state-of-the-art laser system and will benefit hundreds of local people every year.

Barlaston Golf Club Commercial Director Terry Adnams said: "We’re ecstatic, not only did we have a good day, we raised a fantastic amount of money for UHNM Charity and the visiting teams had a fantastic day.”

UHNM Charity Director of Communications and Charity, Lisa Thomson said: "It’s been absolutely amazing, I can’t thank Barlaston Golf Club and their members enough, they’ve been so generous. The money they have raised will make such a difference to our patients.”

Barlaston Golf Club has announced it will host another fundraising golf day on Friday 16 June this year.

Lisa added: “I am delighted that Barlaston Golf Club have agreed to host another fundraiser for UHNM Charity this year when we will be raising funds for our Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at Royal Stoke, specifically our neonatal department. The funds will go towards providing interactive rooms to support children when they have to come into hospital and the latest state of the art equipment for very vulnerable tiny babies.”

Everyone gets a game at Grims Dyke Golf Club

Despite its prominent location near to the business hub of the capital of England, Middlesex is home to quite a few golf courses.

A recent trend; the growing love of urban golf has seen golf in a green, countryside setting traded for the grey, stone, inner-city street courses that London offers, so much so that the Urban Golf Championships are now held each year.

It is on the outskirts of London where golf in Middlesex really comes into its own. With a long and rich history, Grims Dyke Golf club was officially opened as a nine hole golf course in June 1910. Plans were drawn to extend the course to 18 holes in 1921 and the services of world renowned golf course architect, James Braid were instructed.

Today, the Grims Dyke golf course represents a challenge to members and visitors alike. The Par 69 has a WHS course rating of 67.2 and slope rating of 117 from the white tees and is maintained to the highest of standards.

Home to tree lined fairways and tricky greens, the course benefits from a unique three tee start on the 1st, 8th and 13th holes meaning that everybody is out on the course and completed their round in good time.

The Grims Dyke clubhouse building dates back to 1936 and has been much extended and refurbished since this time. The latest of these refurbishments took place in 2012 with work completed to extend and include changing facilities. The clubhouse was then officially opened by the Mayor of Harrow.

The bar area is a hub of activity in the clubhouse whilst the comfortable lounge and dining room can accommodate up to 100 guests at any one time. A smaller room, The Gilbert is available for smaller meetings and society groups.

Barlaston Golf Club

A“hidden gem”

Ideal places to base one’s golfing party would be Stafford or Stoke-on-Trent, the two biggest towns in the county. From here, the county’s luxurious fairways can be easily reached and the Staffordshire golfing challenge well and truly accepted.

Staffordshire encompasses parts of the National Forest and Peak District National Park whilst combining the wild moorlands and uplands in the north with the low undulating landscape in the south around Cannock Chase, an area of natural outstanding beauty.

Located in the heart of England and accessible from the whole country, Staffordshire is a fascinating county of outstanding natural beauty. Buckinghamshire, one of the Home Counties bordering Greater London is one of the south east of England’s most affluent counties. Kilworth Springs for a great day!

Founded in 1993 and overlooking the Avon Valley in South Leicestershire, Kilworth Springs Golf Club is the ideal venue for a social round of golf with friends or a meal and drinks. The club is a hub of activity that is enjoyed by members, visitors and their friends and families.

Golf was first played in the county of Cornwall in 1889 with the Cornwall Golf Union being founded two years later in 1901.

Bingley St Ives Golf Club was founded in 1931 originally as a nine hole layout. Extended to 18 holes in 1934, the course meanders through different settings for golf, switching between parkland, woodland and moorland surroundings.

The Bingley course was designed with instruction from legendary golf course architect, Dr Alister MacKenzie who has left many of his attributes on the course which can be see today, including tiered greens and a design that encompasses the nature of the landscape surrounding the golf course.

Over the years, the course have been further developed with input from leading names in the game, including Sir Nick Faldo, the late Seve Ballesteros and Jose Maria Canizares.

A regular host of regional, county and national events, South Cliff was the joint hosts of the English Amateur Championships in 2016.

Formed in the early 1900s, distinguished golfers to play the course and pass judgement in its early days include legendary golf course architects, Harry Vardon, James Braid and J H Taylor and 1907 Open Champion, Arnaud Massey.

After a period of neglect and following the end of the First World War, renowned golf course designer, Dr Alastair MacKenzie was commissioned to design and supervise the reconstruction of the South Cliff golf course.

Today, the course falls in to two parts, divided by the main road from Scarborough to Filey. The seaward side of the golf course is at one with the elements and represents a true test of links golf; whilst, the holes of the land-ward side of the course are laid out at the bottom of a rolling valley stretching southwards into the hills and on the slope of the ridge to the east.

The South Cliff clubhouse was later added in 1930 and the Professional Shop in 1937.

Founded in 1892, Mid Herts Golf Club is one of the country’s remaining original golf courses. The Club’s heathland setting, warm welcome and modern facilities have made it a well-loved golf course for members and visitors alike.

Mid Herts is a beautiful heathland course and a haven for wildlife. Over ninety bird boxes have been installed over the years with red kites, great spotted woodpeckers, tawny owls and and nuthatch are regularly seen, as well as bats.

Under the guidance of renowned golf course architect, James Braid, Mid Herts was extended to 18-holes in 1923. Laid out across one of Hertfordshire’s few remaining lowland heathlands and acid grasslands, the varied golf course offers a dynamic and challenging round with natural undulations, hazards and greens that run true and quick with intriguing breaks.

Since our 100th anniversary in 1992 there has been considerable investment in all aspect of our course, with the clubhouse extensively redeveloped and refurbished in 2000. In recent times the clubhouse bar and dining area has been completely refurbished together with the locker rooms and we have moved away from having a traditional Pro Shop. We now have ‘The Hub’ model which is widely used on the Continent and in the United States and also have a fully functioning halfway house as well as a new young vibrant catering team. You can rest assured that you will be spoilt for choice with your menu selection and all dietary requirements can be accommodated.

The Club is planning to become largely selfsufficient with electricity already coming from solar panels and in 2020 we installed our own borehole for water to be supplied to the course

The handsome Georgian town of Alresford which is located in the City of Winchester district of Hampshire Voted Country Life’s Favourite Market Town in the south east, Alresford is also known for its specialist shops, old-fashioned inns, smart bistros and traditional tea rooms.

Founded in 1890, Alresford Golf Club has developed into one of the most attractive and challenging courses in the south of England. The course was extended to its current layout in 1993.

Offering views of the South Downs National Park and the surrounding Hampshire countryside it is one of only 30 downland courses in England, the course is playable all-year-round due to its chalk characteristics and this coupled with its reputation for overall course presentation is why it has regularly been chosen to host County amateur and PGA competitions.

The picturesque and easy-walking setting on the slopes of Tichborne Down feature no less than five tricky par 3s and carefully contoured fairways which are a challenge to even the most accomplished of golfer. The 11th and 12th holes are considered to be two of the best Par 4’s in the county.

The recently refurbished clubhouse at Alresford Golf Club offers excellent bar and catering facilities and is unique in that it offers wonderful views across the course from the patio for those enjoying a post game refreshment.

Alresford’s bar and catering services are professionally provided by the kitchen throughout the year with a reasonably priced variety of drinks, light bite snacks and meals. The club also caters for formal dining and a wide variety of social functions. Society visitors are welcomed Monday to Friday with a number of summer and winter packages which can be tailored to the requirements of the visiting group. Set in a mature wooded valley at Beckford just outside Bingley in West Yorkshire, Shipley is a pleasant golf course with a traditional parkland setting and offers a stern test of the skills and accuracy of even the most accomplished of players.

Shipley has long been known as one of the best courses in the West Yorkshire region and is a regular venue for both Bradford Union and Yorkshire Union county fixtures.

Seahouses Golf Club has been a centre of golfing excellence in Northumberland since it was founded in 1913. Originally designed by Alnmouth greenkeeper, George Rochester, the traditional northern golf course features two of the most prestigious par three’s in the North of England.

The Seahouses’ 10th requires players to tee off across a Loch which stretches tee to green whilst the vastly unique, 15th hole features sea tee to green – a magnificent feature of an already highly regarded golf course.

In 1976, Seahouses’ original 9-hole layout was extended to the eighteen holes that can be enjoyed today and, since this time, the golf club has hosted many Northumberland Golf County events.

Porters Park Golf Club dates back to 1899 when it became one of the first golf courses on the north side of London. It is also home to HMNB Portsmouth; an operational Royal Navy base – nicknamed Pompey, a name it shares with the wider city and football team, Portsmouth FC.

Projects included the implementation of a new irrigation system with Topturf replacing the previous irrigation with a modern system, allowing greenkeepers to water a greater area whilst minimising water wastage - keeping the playing surfaces at peak condition all season. This then culminated in Waterlooville being Hampshire Golf Club of the year by Your Golfer Magazine. The £240k project saw the installation of new pipework, as well as a new pumphouse featuring two pumps.

Durabunker were also instructed by the club to renovate twenty-three of the course’s bunkers. Twenty-three bunkers were then renovated with two of the larger bunkers being split into two new bunkers each - a positive feature giving definition and shape to the holes.

Waterlooville Golf Club welcomes visitors, society groups and corporate guests throughout the year, seven days a week. With a golf course that is always presented in an excellent condition and renowned hospitality and catering, a golf day at Waterlooville is both enjoyable and truly memorable.

Stay, Play, Spectate at Nailcote Hall

Often referred to as Britain’s Best Par 3 Course, the Cromwell Course at Nailcote Hall features nine holes that have been cleverly designed to ensure it is perfect for beginners but also provides a unique challenge to even the most accomplished of golfer.

Home to hazards of a full size golf course, players must find their way around no less than 23 bunkers, water hazards, tiered greens and tough pin positions

The course offers a challenging round for all levels of golfer demanding accuracy from each tee and is the ideal course for corporate and society golf days, as well as being the host of the Annual Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship, which took place across 9th – 12th August in 2022.

Enjoying a relaxed yet competitive environment, the championship was played long before the traditional Masters Par 3 prior to the main event. The Cromwell course took over hosting the event from The Palace Hotel in 1996 and has never looked back, going from strength to strength each year with a fantastic field of PGA Professionals and household golfing and sporting names in the Pro-Am.

There are also many sponsorship opportunities and an Open competition held in the run up to the event, which determines a lucky competitor who will rub shoulders with the Professionals on the Cromwell course in August. George Denley was this year’s amateur qualifier who was lucky enough to compete at the Championship.

Each year, the Championship is competed by some esteemed Professionals which have included Tommy Fleetwood, Danny Willet and Charley Hull. Whilst celebrities taking on the challenge in the Pro-Am have included Peter Schmeichel, Nigel Mansell CBE and Len Goodman to name but a few. The Championship’s Roll of Honour lists Tommy Fleetwood (2013), Eddie Pepperell (2014), Jarmo Sandelin (2019) and last year’s winner Andrew Marshall.

“This Par 3 championship course is truly a hidden gem just outside historic city of culture Coventry. A course like no other we have played, it was maintained to perfection and offers nine uniquely stunning holes of golf ranging from 95 to 146 yards.

The Cromwell was a really interesting and true test of our short game with elevated greens, most with bunkers around them. All greens were surrounded with lush grass, whilst water comes into play on six of the nine holes.

Respite from bunkers on the last but with water short, long and left is another great test. This course isn’t about power it’s all about feel and finesse and there’s no wonder it is home to the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.

The Cromwell was great fun for all abilities. We cannot wait to play here again with the guarantee of a short game improvement. We really enjoyed the day, friendly staff and members in the wonderful 17th Century Country House Hotel. Fantastic for everyone’s short game and great fun!!”

ENVILLE GOLF CLUB

Enville Golf Club near Stourbridge in the County of South Staffordshire is an R & A and England Golf Championship venue hosting the R&A Girls U16 amateur Championships between 2021 to 2023 and England Golfs Logan Trophy in 2023.

Tucked away near the village of Enville, the first nine holes and clubhouse of Enville Golf Club were erected in 1935 with a second nine added and the course extended to eighteen holes in 1938. Two further loops of nine were added and, in 1983 the 36 holes were re-laid out to create two eighteen hole golf courses.

Today, the two golf courses, which are set in pleasant, undulating country; partly heath and partly woodland attract a tremendous amount of visitors each year many of whom return.

A real gem of a golf course, the Highgate is a blend of picturesque heathland and woodland course; the tees are extremely well cared for, fairways are shaped to perfection and can be fairly linksy in places allowing for good run and the putting surfaces have gained a reputation for being among the best in the area, fast and smooth with subtle contours.

A lot of the holes are tree-lined, and with the run many players will reach position using a fairway wood on a good proportion of the holes. There are four par five's on the Highgate with the ninth hole, a monster of a hole at 586 yards off the yellow tees. The course also features four wonderfullydesigned par three's and a couple of exciting par fours back to back on the 12th and 13th.

The Highgate back nine is arguably more difficult that the front nine which prepares players for the challenge ahead.

Both golf courses, the Highgate and Lodge call for excellent course management and accuracy from the tees to shoot a low score.

The Players Club, Bristol

The natural beauty of Gloucestershire is unrivalled. The region boasts some great golf courses and at The Players Club there are two full 18 hole golf courses together with a par 3 course to enjoy. The venue is home to the 7000 yard Par 72 Codrington which has a WHS slope rating of 131 and is a true test of accuracy with its sloping greens and strategically placed water hazards. The Stranahan is much shorter playing as a Par 68 with a slope rating of 107 – short in comparison to the Codrington but great fun that does not rely on length, it’s defence are the greens but it is kept in the same condition as its big brother. The par 3 Watergarden is a superb little 18 hole golf course, the front nine is suitable for a beginner but the holes get tougher and tougher on the back nine. All three courses were designed by Adrian Stiff, golf architect at SAS Golf Design based at The Players Club.

The clubhouse building at The Players was constructed and opened in 2004. Built from Cotswold stone, the building retains most of the characteristics of its original old barn building and overlooks the 18th hole of the Codrington golf course as well as the surrounding countryside. The clubhouse is the ideal venue for all manner of celebrations and occasions.

Open 364 days a year for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the comfortable setting offers an extensive bar menu and a relaxing, open courtyard and decking area perfect for al fresco dining during the warmer months. The course itself provides a mixture of testing links holes along the stunning sand dunes and beach, after which you will find yourself meandering back inland to play a set of five, beautifully landscaped, parkland holes. This in itself will provide a true test to any visiting golfer as you will be playing links golf and a parkland course on the same 18 holes!!

Alan (the resident professional at Abersoch) is happy to extend the club’s renowned warm welcome and is available for lessons should you wish to sharpen up any part of your game whilst playing the course. It may also be a good idea to take some time with Abersoch’s professional to improve your skill and mastery of the game, along with some tips on how to play some of the trickier holes!!

Grantown-on-Spey Golf Club is one of the finest golf venues within the Cairngorms National Park area. Located near Inverness of the banks of the Moray Firth and Your Golfer Magazine’s favoured course in the region, the Royal Burgh of Fortrose & Rosemarkie is an outstandingly beautiful location for a golf course. Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club’s 18-hole layout is uniquely set within the narrow Chanonry Peninsula instantly admired by visiting groups.

Recognised as the 15th oldest golf club in the world, golf was first played in the Fortrose area as far back as 1702 and golf on the land that Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club is now set can be tracked back to the formulation of the Fortrose Golf Society which was founded in July 1793.

By the end of 1888 the golf club had a membership of 50 members. Although the first competitions were not held at Fortrose & Rosemarkie in 1922 following the resurgence of the game.

In 1932, world renowned golf course architect, James Braid was invited to advise on a new course layout with further land being acquired. Over the next two years, more land was purchased which led to Braid being invited to carry out a further survey on the land and its use as an eighteen hole golf course.

In the mid-1950s, the Club had outgrown its facilities and the new clubhouse was planned. This clubhouse was further extended in 1983 to the building that can be enjoyed by members and visitors today.

A course with special character – a visit the Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club of today will combine the spectacular views with small, deceptively shaped greens and strategically-placed bunkers which offer a truly memorable challenge to all that take on its wonderfully manicured fairways.

Fortrose’s breath-taking scenery is emphasised by a Dolphin colony in the adjacent firth which can be seen from the course which is also visited by an abundance of local wildlife including Kestrel which is commonly seen patrolling the 8th hole.

Ranfurly Castle Golf Club

Situated less than 30 minutes from Glasgow city centre on the edge of Bridge of Weir village, Ranfurly Castle Golf Club was founded in 1889 and is recognised as the oldest golf club in Renfrewshire.

Highly regarded as one of the best moorland golf courses in Scotland, the Ranfurly Castle course boasts breath-taking views of the Clyde Valley and surrounding, Renfrewshire countryside.

The golf course was first opened for play in 1905 when it was designed by Andrew Kirkcaldy and Willie Auchterlonie. The Ranfurly Castle layout was reconstructed in 1930 with some influence from legendary golf course architect, James Braid and today, embraces the natural terrain with tight fairways and firm smooth greens calling for accuracy.

The club’s management team have invested on upgrading the golf course drainage and irrigation to allow for all year round play.

The Par 70 golf course measure 6, 291 yards from the white tees and has a WHS course rating of 70.5 and slope rating of 122. It presents a fair challenge to even the most accomplished of golfers and has regularly been selected as the host of National Amateur Championships.

The historic Ranfurly Castle clubhouse building was also opened in 1905 and has undergone extensive refurbishment over the years. Today it presents the perfect venue for dining and drinks with friends and family, as well as formal dining occasions and private functions. Donegal Golf Club is a jewel in the crown of Irish golf and comes highly recommended.

The ground floor hosts the well-stocked golf shop, locker and changing room facilities. Whilst the clubhouse’s first floor is home to the restaurant, lounge and bar areas which boast fantastic, panoramic views of the golf course. The Club also boasts a private dining room for more formal dining occasions. A beautifully-appointed patio, which can be accessed from the first floor and course provides outdoor seating for dining and relaxing in the warmer months.
