See The Sights And Walk The Fairways Of Gwynedd North Wales is littered with fine golf courses and some of the most spectacular scenery in the whole of the United Kingdom. Gwynedd is mostly located within the Snowdonia National Park with the Snowdonia mountain ranges and Cambrian coastline as the town’s magnificent backdrop. From Llanberis - a popular base for walkers at the foot of the Snowdonia mountain range to the quant harbour town of Aberdovy – Gwynedd is packed full of outdoor pursuits and activities. Situated on the Glaslyn Estuary, Porthmadog is rich in maritime history and an excellent base to exploring the surrounding area.
The superbly-appointed Porthmadog golf course and clubhouse has everything for a great day out whether with family, friends or a golf society. Founded in 1905, Porthmadog was designed and created by legendary golf course architect, James Braid. Today, the site offers a beautiful and traditional links course which provides friendly hospitality and an enjoyable but challenging round of golf for all ages and abilities. The par 72 Porthmadog golf course stretches over 6, 326 yards from the championship tees. The front nine is predominantly set on a heathland layout whilst, the course’s back nine has more of a links style to it. Each loop of nine provides stunning views of the Cardigan Bay coast and the Snowdonia mountain range.
The excellent Porthmadog clubhouse building features a comfortable lounge, well-appointed bars and a spacious locker room. The large modern clubhouse is extremely family-orientated and extends a warm welcome to golfers and nongolfers alike. The comfortable lounge area is completed with a relaxed atmosphere and a wellstocked bar serving a variety of ales, beers, wines and spirits. Situated in Ganton in the Vale of Pickering between York and Scarborough, Ganton Golf Club is one of Britain’s very best inland golf courses and over the years, has played host to many amateur and professional golf tournaments. Proud to have been closely linked to the history of British golf, the Ganton golf course features deep and prolific bunkers, savage rough and intimidating gorse which make the par 73 golf course, which measures 6,739 yards from the championship, white tees; an enjoyable yet testing challenge for all.
Golf was first played in Ganton in the summer of 1891. The course was laid out by St Andrews’ Tom Chisolm who had assistance from Robert Bird, the club’s first professional and head green keeper. The Thirsk Room boasts views across the putting green and features large patio doors leading to an outdoor terrace – perfect for al fresco eating and drinking. Here, visitors will also find photographs and original water colours of the region’s decorated golfing heritage. One of the jewels in West Yorkshire’s golfing crown is the superb, Bingley St Ives Golf Club. Bingley is located on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales near the Aire Valley and famous Bronte area. Bingley St Ives Golf Club was founded in 1931 originally as a nine hole layout. The Bingley course was designed with instruction from legendary golf course architect, Dr Alister MacKenzie who has left many of his attributes on the course which can be see today, including tiered greens and a design that encompasses the nature of the landscape surrounding the golf course. Over the years, the course have been further developed with input from leading names in the game, including Sir Nick Faldo, the late Seve Ballesteros and Jose Maria Canizares. Today, the Par 71 golf course measures 6,458 yards from the white tees and continues to be a true golfing test in set in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. When the club was privatised in 1990, work began on a clubhouse building. This was completed in 1994 and reflected the aesthetics of the historic buildings of the estate located nearby. The clubhouse was opened in 1994 by former Ryder Cup player, Mark James.

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club is a great place to play golf. Founded in 1888, the golf club is located east of the village between the Foveran Burn and the River Ythan.
“A hidden jewel”
In 1947 following World War II, golf in Newburgh was reborn;The original 9 holes was played up until 1995 when a new 9 holes was built south of the old course on the Foveran links. Assisted by Greens of Scotland who designed the new nine holes and golf course architect, Glen Andrews who constructed the greens and bunker, the Newburgh course was extended to the eighteen holes that can be enjoyed today.
The new 18 hole layout was officially opened in April 1996. Situated on the Ythan Estuary, overlooking the North Sea and Sands of Forvie National Nature Reserve, today’s par 72, Newburgh on Ythan championship links course demands accuracy from the tee.
A gem in North East Scotland The Newburgh clubhouse was built in 2001 on ground adjacent to the 1st and 10th tees. Opened by 1999 Open Champion, Paul Lawrie, the excellentlyappointed venue is the ideal retreat for a relaxing drink or a bite to eat in comfortable surroundings, overlooking the golf course and beyond to the surrounding Aberdeenshire countryside and sea views.

The £240k project saw the installation of new pipework, as well as a new pumphouse featuring two pumps. Durabunker were also instructed by the club to renovate twenty-three of the course’s bunkers. Twenty-three bunkers were then renovated with two of the larger bunkers being split into two new bunkers each - a positive feature giving definition and shape to the holes. The facilities at the club are phenomenal; this includes a fully stocked pro-shop that sells all the top brands in golf, a practice ground to warm up on and a warm and welcoming clubhouse. The main lounge at Waterlooville Golf Club is ideal for hosting a range of events of any size, with delicious food prepared fresh on site. The clubhouse at Porters Park was damaged by fire in 1954 with much of the original structure having to be rebuilt. Established in 1907, Llandrindod Golf Club has been welcoming golfers for over 100 years. The golf course was the brainchild of a group of local businessmen who identified land overlooking the Victorian Spa town as the ideal location for an 18hole golf course to serve the visitors that flocked to the town to ‘take the waters’. Designed by six times Open Champion, Harry Vardon and altered some years later by the legendary golf course architect, James Braid; Llandrindod Wells is a member of the Heart of Wales Golf Breaks group offering affordable golfing holidays in central Wales. Sculptured from the natural contours of the landscape, the upland links golf course provides a true test for golfers of all abilities combining the natural turf banks, hazards and well-protected true running greens for an enjoyable day’s golf.

Overlooking the neighbouring town and valleys, the course boasts amazing views right from the first tee when you look out across the boating lake and over the rooftops of the Victorian town. The beautifully-appointed, Llandrindod Wells clubhouse features a recently refurbished restaurant which can seat up to 70 people for a formal dinner as well as a comfortable space to relax following completion of your round. Golf societies are welcome through the year on weekends and weekdays. The Llandrindod Wells golf course is a fantastic ‘competition course’ with the aptly named, ‘Death or Glory’, 18th hole providing the decider for many a match.
