Emma’s promotion tees up new golf season at Carden Park

With the golf season fast approaching, Carden Park: Cheshire’s County Estate is pulling out all the stops this year to celebrate the sport it loves. Being part of the Carden team for more than 10 years, local Wrexham lady Emma Young has risen up the ranks at the four-star resort to become Golf Operations Manager this year. With a whole host of valuable experience in the golfing field in various positions ranging from Golf Event and Retail Supervisor to Golf Sales Coordinator, Emma is eager to make the most of this exciting, new opportunity. Emma is a keen golfer herself and so brings key knowledge to the role and naturally understands a golfer’s needs during their golfing event or golf day at Carden Park Hotel. She says ‘The new golfing season is always an exciting time for us at Carden Park and I am thrilled to be leading this as the new Golf Operations Manager. As a golfer myself the start of The Masters always gets me ready for the beginning of the new golfing calendar. I am looking forward to working with all the golf team to deliver the highest quality golf events with the superb facilities we have here at Cheshire’s Country Estate.’ This promotion is also another tip of the hat to the Carden ethos of ‘Grow our own’ which has given positions of high honour to those that have made a name for themselves in the company such as recently appointed Director of Sales Dan Gibson. The hotel’s two iconic championship courses; The Cheshire and The Nicklaus, which is famously designed by American great Jack Nicklaus and his son Steve, are perfectly primed for many more memorable rounds in 2018. Offering panoramic views of not just the rolling Welsh hills but also its picturesque 1000-acre estate, the courses have been designed to test player’s limits with a collection of challenging natural hazards. The extensive golfing facilities including driving range and practice greens, a fleet of 60 electric golf buggies and Clubhouse complete with Pro-shop and Jack’s Bar are perfect for all golf events from business golf days to a quick round with friends.

For further information about golfing at Carden Park, please contact Jo Leah at jo@littlebig.agency or call 07770 886936.

http://www.cottrellpark.com/summer-sizzlers/ Golf Son Muntaner leads the way in Europe with revolutionary grass upgrade Mallorca, Spain – 17th May 2018 – Golf Son Muntaner, the flagship course at Arabella Golf Mallorca, has reopened following an extensive renovation project to elevate the condition of the course to world class level. The ambitious assignment – which took five months to complete – has seen every blade of grass replaced on the course, allowing members and visitors at Golf Son Muntaner the chance to enjoy immaculate playing conditions all year round. The majority of the course features revolutionary Celebration Bermudagrass, a strikingly-coloured turf that has finished best in numerous university research studies for its sustainable performance in hot temperatures and impressive low-level water consumption levels. The first resort in Europe to offer this exceptional new turf, Golf Son Muntaner has also carried out an extensive renovation of all 18 greens, replacing the existing grass with exceptional new V8 Creeping Bentgrass which is renowned for its ability to provide lightning-fast putting surfaces. Speaking about the renovation of the course, Bernat Llobera, Area Director Arabella Golf said: “One of the core values at Arabella Golf Mallorca is our commitment to delivering a world-class resort that constantly exceeds expectations. “The innovative project that we have carried out to completely rejuvenate the course at Golf Son Muntaner is a clear example of our dedication to provide the very best facilities for our members and guests to enjoy. “This work will strengthen our position as one of the very best golf resorts in Spain and our investment ensures that our conditioning is second to none across the continent.” The course renovation, which was performed in 2017 jointly with a refurbishment of the Event Center and the Club House Son Muntaner, is the second part of the ambitious revolution of Arabella Golf Mallorca which saw the opening of a new clubhouse at Golf Son Vida in 2016.

Originally known as The Bradford St. Andrews Golf Club, The Bradford Golf Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf clubs in Yorkshire. The open moorland course has existed at its present site since 1899. However, in the 1923 the course was substantially altered by golf course architect, W. Herbert Fowler and his team. Today, the golf course is one of only two Fowler-designated courses in Yorkshire. The club has embarked on a thoughtful re-discovery of its Fowler heritage, with the trees now forming more natural groups, with the iconic 16th and 17th completed. A warm welcome at a wonderful golf club

The clubhouse is an outstanding Grade II listed, Georgian hall set over three storeys of red brick and slate roof. The interior of the majestic building has much been altered over the years to now include a main staircase as its centre piece, leading from the well-stocked bar and restaurant.

With its central location and variety of stay and play resorts, the West Midlands is hard to beat when it comes to golf weekends. Connected by superb transport links to the rest of the country and with excellent accommodation options and entertainment away from the golf course, the West Midlands region has all of the perfect ingredients for the perfect golf break.

The Club also offers a range of professional golf day services which can be arranged with the Edgbaston team who are on hand to ensure the smooth running of your event from the first tee to prize giving.

Visitors to the region can choose from a wide variety of golf courses, from traditional parkland layouts through to heath and woodland courses; some with an inland links-feel to them. Spoilt for choice, the West Midlands has a wide and varied golfing contingent and has something to offer all abilities and budgets. One of the oldest clubs in the West Midlands, Edgbaston Golf Club dates back to 1896 and is also considered as one of the best and friendliest golf clubs in the Midlands. The 18-hole course was designed and remodelled by the legendary golf course architect, H. S. Colt in 1936. The Club’s unique setting, just one mile from the centre of Birmingham but a lifetime away from the hustle and bustle of the second city, can be accessed by all.

The Club extends a warm welcome to visitors throughout the year. Edgbaston Golf Club prides itself on the first class service that is offered to visiting groups and societies through a range of complete packages which include excellent golf on the championship golf course and fantastic dining options.

Edgbaston is an enjoyable golf course which demands your best attention. The natural parkland course is stunning, with an Ornamental lake at its heart. Playing through mature woodland with small greens and tight fairways, Edgbaston is a challenging course which requires total accuracy. As a tribute to the hard work of the management team and green-keeping staff, the course at Edgbaston was nominated as one of the top 200 courses in the UK by Peter Allis.

Established in 1890, A native grassland championship links in a Capability Brown Park Set either side of the River Wellend, Stamford is home to over six-hundred listed buildings and no less than five medieval churches. As well as being recognised as Britain’s first conservation area, Stamford was recently declared the most attractive place to live by the Sunday Times.

In 2005, the golf club invested in a new clubhouse with modern facilities to suit. With bright, spacious bright interior the well-appointed facility now includes a multi-functional lounge and restaurant area, as well as an extensive patio area perfect for al fresco dining whilst looking out over the impressive 18th green.

MAPPERLEY GOLF CLUB

High in the Nottinghamshire countryside The county of Nottinghamshire is full of superb golf courses with a large number of regular society groups visiting the region. The quiet market towns and rolling hills of Nottinghamshire coupled with the cosmopolitan city life makes Nottinghamshire a county of great contrasts. Sheltered by the Pennines to the west, the county receives low levels of rainfall and with golf course meandering around the River Trent, the region offers an ideal retreat for golf breaks. Set in north-eastern Nottingham, Mapperley is bound to the north-west by Sherwood, Thorneywood to the south and Gedling to the east. With a fantastic rural landscape for golf, the main part of the Mapperley is set 120 metres above sea level and is one of the highest areas of land in the county of Nottinghamshire. The beautiful Mapperley Golf Club parkland golf course is located just four miles from the centre of Nottingham and presents an interesting challenge for all levels of golfer. The relaxed, friendly golf club, which was founded over a century ago offers stunning views across the Gedling Country Park and across to the Vale of Belvoir.

Dating back to the early 1900s, Mapperley was originally named, St Andrews Institute Golf Club - taking its name from the church on the corner of Mansfield Road and Mapperley Road. The Mapperley Golf Club was formed later in 1932, when members expressed a wish to play golf on Sundays. At this time, Mapperley was still very rural therefore fences were required around the greens to keep off the cattle that grazed on the golf course. In 1983, the new course layout that can be enjoyed today was officially opened by then Minister for Sport, Neil McFarlane. The designer of the new layout was John Mason, the golf professional at the former Carlton Forum Golf Range. Since this time, the owners have committed to continued investment into the clubhouse and golf course which has seen Mapperley Golf Club become one of the most popular in Nottingham. The Club celebrated its centenary year in 2007.

Mapperley’s new clubhouse was built in 1993 and today, represents the ideal venue for a relaxing drink with friends, a bite to eat or a celebration with visitors assured of a warm welcome.

Visiting the Capital? Why not visit Wyke Green GC? Despite its prominent location near to the business hub of the capital of England, the countryside surrounding London is home to quite a few golf courses.

Since its creation, the golf course at Wyke Green has been constantly improved and today, the abundance of trees on the course attract a great deal of wildlife as well as ensuring that the course is well-drained. As a testimony to the hard work and dedication of the green keeping team at Wyke Green, Middlesex County Golf Union regularly use the course for county events.

A recent trend; the growing love of urban golf has seen golf in a green, countryside setting traded for the grey, stone, inner-city street courses that London offers, so much so that the Urban Golf Championships are now held each year. It is on the outskirts of London where golf really comes into its own. It is well worth taking the time to visit the region’s selection of golf courses, many of which are designed by some of the world’s most renowned golf course architects. Accessible from Heathrow International Airport and the Central London, the golf course was founded in 1926 on three former hay fields owned by the Earl of Jersey. The freehold of the land was purchased by club members in 1996 when it became a limited company and a private members club.

It is well worth the time, effort and money to play the golf course at Silloth. Once you get there, you won’t want to leave!!

Cumbria is one of the most picturesque areas in England, offering quality golf courses for the enjoyment of the discerning golfer and visiting society groups within magnificent settings. The region’s number-one ranked golf course and a regular feature in the Top 100, Silloth on Solway Golf Club is home to what is highly-regarded as one of England’s finest links courses. Founded in 1892 with the help of Railway Company money, the Silloth course was originally designed by Davy Grant and has since evolved, with contributions from classic golf course architects, Dr Alister Mackenzie and Willie Park Jnr. Located in one of the most remote and isolated areas of England in the Cumbrian countryside and at the mouth of the Solway firth, Silloth’s fairways meander through the mature dune flora reminiscent of true linksstyle golf courses with tough, true greens providing a true test of links golf.

With spectacular views across the firth, overlooking the Scottish Borders and Lake District, the blooming heather and patches of gorse that is in abundance make Silloth’s rolling fairways a safe haven. Add in the wind factor and you’ll rarely play to handicap. Even in the calm, Silloth is a tricky links course offering one of the most unique challenges in English golf. Silloth on Solway Golf Club represents excellent value for money. In 2016, National Club Golfer magazine voted it the ‘No 1 Course in Britain and Ireland under £100’. The clubhouse at Silloth was designed by Carlisle architect and club member, Walter Gibbings in 1903 was extended in 1908. Today, it retains a period atmosphere in-keeping with the true character of the Club and golf course.

Loudoun Gowf Club Gowfing Since 1909

Galston is also home to the uniquely named, Loudoun Gowf Club.

The west coast of Scotland celebrates its glorious past with an eye clearly on the future. In 1860, the Open first came to the west coast of Scotland, when it was played at Prestwick. Since this time, the competition has become the greatest golfing event in the world with Ayrshire firmly at its heart. Ayrshire and the surrounding terrain encompasses arguably the finest collection of links golf courses in the world and with quality accommodation, fine dining, heritage and charisma on its doorstep offers a truly unique experience.

Since 1974, most expenditure has been on the course itself with investment in the tools and fertilisers needed to keep the course in the most pristine of conditions. However, in recent years, the golf course has taken a new look with tress lining the fairways and changes to the shape of some of the holes. The greens are larger than they had previously been but still present a stern test for all levels of golfer.

Visiting groups are assured of a hugely enjoyable experience at some of the Ayrshire’s multi course venues and excellent stay and play resorts which combine excellent links and parkland golf courses.

Galston in East Ayrshire is situated in wooded countryside and is one of a small group of towns set in the Irvine Valley.

Today, the comfortable clubhouse surroundings are the home to tales of what might have been, as well as well stocked bars and excellent dining options.

The great facilities on offer in the region are coupled with the region’s close proximity to the centre of Glasgow where you can choose from a host of accommodation and entertainment providers.

Founded in 1889, the rugged Waterville terrain is at the mercy of the elements and on a windy day, most players will struggle to make handicap. The course is a regular feature in Ireland’s Top 100, reaching the number three course in Ireland’s Top 100 courses in 2015. The clubhouse is all-inclusive with changing facilities, a superbly-appointed pro shop and adjacent golf school. An extensive collection of old photographs, golf art and memorabilia enhance the ambience of the clubhouse which can be enjoyed by visitors, members and their families and friends. Whilst, the excellent restaurant and bar serve locally sourced sea food and local tipples throughout the week.

Waterville House & Golf Links offer golfing packages to visiting parties which can be tailored to meet the need and budgets of the group. Why not combine a golf day with a stay and play break in the majestic, Waterville House? The Georgian Manor is an 18th century manor house with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and beautiful, Loch Currane. The Manor was built by the Butler family in 1790 and the estate was called ‘Waterville’. Today, the four star Waterville House offers twelve elegantly furnished bedrooms and a private Fazio designed practice facility. Residents can take advantage of preferential tee times as well as access to fishing the famous Butler’s Pool and private rivers and lakes.
