Analysis: This church highlights structural ingenuity, flowing form. And modulation of light, playing with light to evoke a sense of spirituality and contemplation. The welcoming frontal faรงade is contrasted by varying forms such as undulating curves, brick patternation and panels of brick modulating light. The large spiralling campanile with modular gaps reiterates the flowing form between circular and rigid straight lines. The consistent use of brick enables fluid control of form whilst respecting traditional construction practice.
Analysis: The Termeh Office Building produces an intermediary threshold between public and private space using an undulating brick cladding extending from the ground to the roof, experimenting with brick as both cladding and pavement. The rolling surface produces a sense of motion and is juxtaposed against the boxed structure of the office. The design is made of local bricks patterned with local and traditional brick layering techniques, effectively reflecting the surrounding environmental context.

Description of selected brick: I chose cream to reflect and respect the surrounding environment and history of the site, located adjacent to Union House, Baldwin Spencer and Raymond Priestley which all utilise cream bricks. Using reclaimed bricks is environmentally conscious and cost-efficient at $0.66 per brick. The reclaimed bricks are sourced locally from pre-existing buildings in Melbourne and are distributed from Northcote so have minimal carbon impact through transportation. The bricks are imbued with lightness, character and history.
