‘With the roar of forklifts, the demolition truck smashed the wall, the reinforced concrete was dismembered, and a wide flat ground had been cut out, making the densely packed handshake building in the distance more abrupt. No one knows how many people are left in this urban village that once gathered 150,000 undocumented population...’ Shenzhen Southern News, 2021

I find myself surrounded by patchiness, that is, a mosaic of open-ended assemblages of entangled ways of life, with each further opening into a mosaic of temporal rhythms and spatial arcs. Anna Tsing, 2015

Background story

Studio 1 road map

Reviewing Studio 1 An exploration toward the Interactive Walk-through

Interactivity for audience inspired by Refrakt (source: studio 1)

By studying Forensic Architecture, Refrakt artist and Ludology(Michael Salmand, 2016) in studio1, I have explored a representation methodology with a preliminary research question of:’How to demonstrate the issue of marginalised migrants to the audience who has no cognitive background to it?’

Methodological reconstruction of space (source: studio 1)

Each video I generated in studio 1 contribute to my representation prototype, technically, conceptually and narratively. This laid a solidly fundamental and methodological representation method for this ongoing thesis project.

Tentative generation of AR experience (source: studio 1)

To highlight, I learnt the importance of interactivity for information transmission by studying Refrakt’s interactive installation with AR technology. And I learned from Forensic Architecture about their remote spatial reconstruction methodology, integrating studies on Michael Salmond’s book about video game development(world building, character design and game mechanism).

Theoretical definition of ‘field of play’ (source: studio 1)

Although my final output is not a game, I use the game production methodology to optimise my final interactive walkthrough for the efficiency of information delivery and user experience. Serious Game is an efficient way to build knowledge for audience uncounciously (source: studio 1)
