DEAR READERS, When you’ve been in business for 46 years, you learn that one of the keys to longevity is knowing when it’s time to spruce things up—and that’s exactly what we’ve done with the Windermere brand. We knew we didn’t need an entire brand overhaul, but a little facelift was definitely in order. It all started in the spring of 2017 when we launched Windermere’s ultra-luxury marketing brand, W Collection. The development of that program and its visual identity caused us to take a step back and look at how the primary Windermere brand and all of its sub-brands worked together as a cohesive unit. The result was a 12-month process that saw every element of the Windermere brand updated to reflect a more modern look and feel. KITCHEN ESSENTIALS 1. CAST IRON SKILLET. My grandma had a cast iron
skillet she used for everything—roasting, sautéeing, and making rice. The food tasted so good because that pan was well seasoned from all that use— it was rinsed and reused, and the flavors built up over time and added so much deliciousness to every dish. I love to recreate that in my kitchen. 2. OUTDOOR GRILL. In the spring and summer, nothing beats being outdoors cooking with family and friends. 3. PRESSURE COOKER. One of my favorite kitchen gadgets. It’s old school. You can get maximum flavor out of foods without having to use a slow cooker. I’M MOST INSPIRED BY: Nature. I grew up in the
country and love spending time on the water. I am constantly in awe of how beautiful nature is and how many resources nature keeps giving us. CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH: Pre-Hispanic Mexican
food. I’ve traveled a lot for my new PBS show, No Passport Required, and in Chicago, I experienced Mexican food that goes back centuries. The amount of care, time, and energy that goes into dishes like a mole verde or traditional tamales creates incredible depth of flavor. ART GPS: RED ROOSTER HARLEM RESTAURANT
Harlem has a lot going on. From style icons like Dapper Dan and Lana Turner to institutions like The Apollo Theater and Studio Museum, our community informs Red Rooster’s style. When you first walk into Red Rooster you’ll
notice the art and murals, with amazing pieces by artists Faith Ringgold, Sanford Biggers, Gary Simmons, Gordon Parks, and more. We’ve also had murals done by Nick Low and Makeba Rainey that reflect the Harlem spirit. STYLE GPS: MARCUS B&P RESTAURANT
Recycled elements at Marcus B&P add a lot of character that is in-and-of Newark. We used refurbished gym floors for some of the walls in the restaurant and recycled doors for the tables. All art pieces are done by local New Jersey artists. FAVORITE FASHION FIND: I recently met fashion
designer Fabrice Tardieu in Miami and I really like his style and craftsmanship.

CHANGE AGENTS As Utah’s Family Support Center celebrates its 15-year anniversary, Windermere Real Estate supports the renovation of the non-profit’s LifeStart Village.

THE SAYING, “IT TAKES A VILLAGE,” anchors Utah’s Family Support Center, where its integrative LifeStart Village is the heartbeat of the Midvale non-profit. The Family Support Center is marking its 15th anniversary with a major renovation to its headquarters. The mission of the Family Support Center is to protect children, strengthen families, and prevent child abuse. As part of this intention, Family Support Center’s LifeStart Village is a transitional housing program for single-parent families struggling with homelessness, drug recovery, or domestic violence.
with all the volunteers from Windermere to revitalize every inch of our four acres,” Mieremet says. “We will be painting our common houses, fixing door frames and minor holes in the walls, patching parts of the lawn that have seen better days, and adding some new landscaping around doors to prevent water collection and flooding.” Additionally, an attached shed will be added to the staff office and will store cleaning supplies, donations, and other supplies

Shirley Jacobson and Katie Stone, both with Windermere Real Estate Utah, have been integral in supporting the Family Support Center. Last year, Windermere Real Estate helped transform one of the organization’s older buildings into classrooms and offices for counseling and administration. “Their support allowed us to add new offices, storage, and classroom space to a building that was sitting idle,” says Family Support Center Volunteer Coordinator Kellie Mieremet. “They also brought in a new playground for our Crisis Nursery, which was long overdue for an upgrade. We could not have increased our services to the community without working with this team.” This year, Windermere Real Estate is helping transform the LifeStart Village after 15 years of service. “We will be working

CAPITOL PEAK (NEAR ASPEN). Not for the faint of heart, the 14,130-foot summit draws top mountain climbers from around the country.
