WOLLOMBI VALLEY SCULPTURE FESTIVAL WORDS DI VON ESSEN The annual exhibition of the Wollombi Valley Sculpture Festival, Sculpture in the Vineyards, returns to the beautiful Wollombi Valley from 10 to 25 September. The Festival highlights the historic Wollombi Valley's natural beauty and cultural heritage, attracting national and international artists each year. And they're celebrating something extra special this year as it's the Festival's 20-year anniversary! "We are officially the longest-running regional sculpture exhibition in Australia," said Susan Leith-Miller, Festival Director. "This year, we also have some of the finest sculptures we have ever exhibited. From 370 entries, we have selected 156 sculptures to display and sell in seven indoor galleries, two vineyards and many outdoor public spaces throughout the Wollombi Valley," added Susan. This year for the first time, organisers are also offering The Governor's Prize, with the winning Sculpture exhibited in the Sculpture Park at Government House in Macquarie Street Sydney for one year at the conclusion of the Festival. "This prestigious prize is unique to The Wollombi Valley Sculpture Festival and will undoubtedly add valuable provenance to the winning sculpture," said Susan. This year's Festival will also see visitors enjoy several unique experiences including Village Walks and Talk Guided Tours which are back by popular demand. "Our guides are passionate and knowledgeable about Sculpture and the village and will help you fully appreciate the sculptures on display and for sale. Whenever possible, an exhibiting sculptor will give an 'Artist's Talk' to further enhance your tour experience," said Susan. Other experiences include Bushwalking in Wollombi, Art N Sip at Hollybrook and a gravel cycling tour of the Festival. Visitors may also like to participate in the Sunset Wine & Dine @ Undercliff Winery - a four-course, delectable dining experience by local chef Nathan Cooper (One Tomato) with fine wines from Undercliff Winery. The evening commences at 4pm with a glass of sparkling wine and a tour of the sculptures on exhibition at Undercliff. This is followed by a wine tasting conducted by winemaker Peter Hamshere at 5pm. Bookings are, of course, essential. And as for Susan's top tip for enjoying this year's 20th annual Sculpture in the Vineyards? "If we get more rain before the Festival, some outdoor venues may be a little muddy so if you want to get up close - bring your gumboots!"
