HEALTH & SAFETY MEGAMAS AUDIT SYSTEM (MAS)

Megamas’ Health and Safety Consultancy is unrivalled in Brunei and we have worked alongside some of the most distinguished clients in the Sultanate. — Mohd Roger Ainsworth Megamas General Manager

The Megamas Audit System is a systematic process which identifies your organisation’s current HSE performance and ranks your performance against that of your peers and of regional and global best practice. Our consultants, in partnership with you will audit your facility/facilities and documentation to make an assessment of your performance. Megamas will then outline a path to improvement and a realistic timescale. We will support you as much as is required to build up the capacity and capability of your organisation. This includes training, consulting, supporting and manpower.

MEGAMAS “ONE STOP SHOP” - BILL OF QUANTITIES The Workplace Health and Safety Order (2009) and associated Bill of Quantities (BoQ) mandates the HSE requirements for public construction projects. Megamas has formed relationships with 4 organisations to provide the capability to give you a single quotation with which to address the BoQ’s requirements. Megamas will coordinate the training, auditing, supply of equipment and management systems to provide a single contractor partner for your project.

CREATION OF HEALTH AND SAFETY DOCUMENTATION AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS Health and Safety Management is essential in all businesses. We can help you as follows: • • • • • •

To manage and minimise risks to employees and customers, Megamas can help you put an OHS-MS in place, Including the internationally recognised OHSAS 18001 certification.

HSE OFFICER SECONDMENT There are many organisations that are project based and do not have the size or manpower to warrant a full time project HSE Officer, or perhaps have won a new contract and cannot find an Officer from the local job market. On these occasions, Megamas will support your HSE needs by supplying a local HSE officer who is familiar with the local market and legal requirements and has the requisite training necessary to identify and proactively intervene in unsafe conditions.

ACCIDENT/ INCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Safety is not an intellectual exercise to keep us in work. It is a matter of life and death. It is the sum of our contributions to safety management that determines whether the people we work with live or die. — Sir Brian Appleton After Piper Alpha

Effective Incident Investigation is not only a moral and legal duty; It also represents sound commercial sense. ldentifying and addressing the root causes of incidents, guards against future incidents. A thorough investigation analysis of an incident is also a positive visible demonstration of your commitment to safety. Megamas will help you to identify and assess a wide range of evidence to determine both the immediate and underlying factors of the incident. At the same time we will evaluate the effectiveness of your incident response arrangements. A detailed report will be produced that describes the incident causes together with a prioritised action plan to prevent a reoccurrence.

SUPPLY OF QUALIFIED HSE OFFICERS Megamas can supply NEBOSH-qualified HSE officers on loan to your company. They will be able to: • • • •

Carry out inspections Help you implement your policy Intervene with unsafe acts Advise on safety matters

RISK ASSESSMENT Risk Assessment is a legal requirement under the workplace Safety and Health regulations. Megamas can conduct risk assessments of your activities and provide training to your staff on the risk assessment process.

SAFETY INSPECTIONS/ AUDIT Is what you think is happening on site really happening? Our consultants can carry out a detailed check of your site and check for uncontrolled hazards and areas for improvement.

FIRE RISK ASSESSMENT

A Health and Safety problem can be described by statistics but cannot be understood by statistics. — Anon

How many minutes does it take you to completely evacuate your building? What fire protection systems do you have? Do all your staff and visitors know what to do if there is a fire? How will you deal with casualties from smoke and fire? When did you last test your fire alarm system? If you have difficulty in answering those questions then you urgently need to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA). Megamas can carry out a fire risk assessment on your premises no matter how small or complex your building is. The FRA will identify the fire hazards and risk to your organisation. Remember, a fire can seriously damage or even destroy a business.

EMERGENCY PLANNING Fire, First Aid, Bomb Threat, Fatality, Man Overboard, Vehicle Collision. What do you do? Megamas have the expertise within its consultancy team to assist organisations with emergency planning with respect to health and safety risks. This includes training and working with an organisation to develop their emergency response plan (ERP). If you need an ERP then call us without delay.

ENVIRONMENT

25

ENVIRONMENT ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

What’s the use of a fine house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on? — Henry David Thoreau Familiar Letters

Environmental Management System (EMS) is an essential component of modern day business. Improvement of a company’s environmental performance leads to an enhanced corporate reputation, systems efficiency and provides the necessary leverage In a competitive market. We can provide information and advice on developing and auditing Environmental Management Systems (EMS). A comprehensive EMS is an essential component for companies wishing to achieve ISO 14001 certification.

CARBON MANAGEMENT Carbon Management is a systematic process for measuring, managing, reporting and mitigating an organisation’s greenhouse gas emissions. Megamas can help your organisation to understand the commercial risks and opportunities posed by climate change and put a plan in place to manage the risks and remain resilient. Part of the Carbon Management process includes a Carbon Footprint Assessment.

CARBON FOOTPRINT ASSESSMENT A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gas released by a person, organisation, event or person within a defined boundary. A carbon footprint is measured in CO2e and can be used to prioritise cost savings, report to clients (on a voluntary or contractual basis) and remain legally compliant. It can also be part of an ISO 14001 Management System as an Environmental Impact register element. Our consultants will, in partnership with your employees, construct, model and report your emissions.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a prescribed process which is usually undertaken for large or environmentally sensitive projects. It is usually undertaken in advance of planning application, sometimes at request of the Government and/or ultimate client, and helps to identify where a project plan can be improved environmentally into a preferred option. This takes into account the cost benefit of the changes and the resultant environmental improvements. Our consultants can author an EIA for your organisation that will help you to communicate the environmental approach you are taking with your project.

TRAINING NEEDS

CONSULTANCY

TRAINING NEEDS TRAINING NEEDS ANALYSIS

Direct interest shown by managers and supervisors remains the most powerful motivator — Anon

Without training, your employees may not have the HSE competences that they need. Without training, accidents and injuries may occur. It is important that all companies have a matrix that clearly shows what training is required for each job type. Megamas can help you to produce a training needs/competency matrix that will identify which employees require HSE training. The matrix is usually provided in the form of a spreadsheet. The training needs will look at all possible training from basic HSE Inductions to specialist safety courses.

COMPUTER BASED TRAINING (CBT) Computer Based Training (CBT) is now increasingly used in the workplace. Key advantages for users of CBT are flexibillty, convenience and the abilty to work at any place where an intemet/intranet connection is available. The cost benefits of CBT to large corporate organisations are difficult to ignore. Unlike classroom training, users may repeat the e-learning course without duplicating the cost. We can develop an exciting CBT course to meet your requirements. It will include animation, quizzes and audio narrative to engage the learner

Construction work is challenging, there are numerous hazardous activities to manage such as; work at height, excavation, electrical work, power tools and machinery. Attention to HSE is not just about being socially responsible, but it also makes good business sense. HSE should be regarded as just as important as the achievement of any other key business objective.
