ZuzanaRudavskรกJewelry

Zuzana Rudavska creates extremely wearable jewelry. It is simple yet also holds strongly its own against a visually competing garment. The work is very much about its materials (woven metals, silver, gold, copper, brass, pearl, semi-precious stones)showing great respect for how they work together. In essence, Rudavska lets the material do the talking about her pieces. Many secrets are hidden in the work, discovering the flexibility and softness of textiles in metal mesh. These combinations become gossamer wire scarves and bracelets of both geometric forms, a study in contrast. They are accented with seemingly weightless punctuations of pearls and semi-precious stones. In scarfs Rudavska's fabrication techniques allow the wearer creative licence to mold the jewelry according to whim or to follow the contours of her own body. This is a privilege not often found in contemporary design. Susan Grant Lewin Curator and design writer, New York. Artist's statement In my work I’m inspired by the fact, that each material carries its own quality and essence. In many instances the pieces expression changes according to the light, as it can have solid or translucent expression. By this thought, I approach each piece and use the possibilities of creating contrast between solid and transparent, smooth and textured, steady and flexible. The combination of strict basic geometric forms with textured woven or variously interlaced fragments inside of them allows me to achieve even greater composition contrast. For me, designing jewelry is like creating a small sculpture. The pendant, brooch or bracelet becomes something upon which to meditate, something to hold in the hand and touch. My greatest inspiration is nature, where various materials of various qualities coexist together. I create my jewelry in hope, that in this age of technology my piece will reconnect the wearer with the nature itself. Zuzana Rudavska
