LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER

hile organizing this issue, it became abundantly clear that grooms do not usually take part in the wedding planning process. Rather, the bride single-handedly takes on this awesome responsibility and task. It’s no wonder that the focus of most wedding magazines is on the bride and her picture-perfect dream of a flawless wedding, including all of its beautiful accoutrements, concerns, and expectations. This epiphany gave me pause and a little concern. Are men actually following a particular protocol by not being involved and leaving all these important details and decisions to their fiancée on purpose? Is it unspoken that they maintain their distance? Why are men detached from this life-changing experience? The idea in question is whether or not men instinctively separate themselves from events such as this. Do they feel as though they shouldn’t get too entrenched as their involvement might signify the notion of being too domesticated? Would their participation make them less masculine? Society has a hand in many of these decisions as we label even our individual responsibilities by unknowingly assigning traditional gender roles to both men and to women. Oddly, we do this without giving much thought to who is doing what until it creates a chasm between the husband and the wife to the point where filing for divorce seems to be the only solution. Yes, I said the bad word. Divorce. We don’t realize that we’re setting
ourselves up for failure if we don’t talk about the very things we know to be facts. These include relationship roles, responsibilities, and compromise. All of these topics must be addressed before you even get started—not when you’re at the fi nish line and you’re ready to wave the white towel and give up. Also, we can’t help but be enchanted by the absolutely wonderful wedding of Meghan Markle to Prince Harry. Prince Harry! Just saying it makes me smile. I watched young Harry grow up, lovingly adored by his mother, and publically withstand the scandals surrounding her divorce to his father Prince Charles. Then to see him lose his mother, Princess Diana, at such a young age, left to face the challenges of growing into a man on the world’s stage without a mother. We all watched as Prince Harry made a few poor decisions. But he bounced back from them to become this charming young man who fi nally wants to settle down and start his own family—on his own terms. As a woman of color in my position, I don’t need a man or a particular race of men to validate me. So I am not celebrating Meghan Markle, Harry’s fiancée, because she’s a woman of color. I’m celebrating their love
Photo by Victor Amos Alex @ Manhattan Fencing.
because of the challenges they faced individually to become a well-rounded couple who cares for their community and society, fully realizes the impact of their union and the legacy that it will create, and how their love will help change the world. Of course, the Royal couple—like any young pair—will make mistakes. They’re not perfect. But I believe watching their union grow will be exciting and together, they’ll do great things. Another reason why I fell in love with this issue: My four month journey travelling with The Great Bridal Expo. I discovered a magnificent America that’s filled with wonderful people, diverse cultures, and is open to conversation and exploring what it means to be an American from food to the arts. This country and her people are beautiful and should be celebrated for its diversity in food, local customs, landscapes, traditions, weddings, and overall beauty. We suggest that you and your loved ones take the time to travel throughout America and celebrate with her citizens and the beautiful planet that we all share. Like me, you’ll discover what make this nation so great—its people.

pond. Most striking about the Royal nuptials is that it’s not only a love union but a symbol of two worlds coming together. Ms. Markle is a biracial actress from California— an American girl who found her life partner in a British Prince. Their story is one we all celebrate. It’s a tale of love breaking boundaries and conquering all. This issue of WBM celebrates the hope that this wedding will serve as an example for unity of all cultures and races. This issue also addresses grooms and their fashion, grooming, and health needs. Our fashion spread, “En Garde Gentlemen,” explores the best white and offwhite suiting for the walk down the aisle, playing off the noble sport of fencing. Getting married in Brooklyn also is a topic in our Spring issue with ideas for a unique wedding experience at this epicenter of cool. With a fabulous array of

caterers; restaurants; party spaces and artists, Brooklyn is brimming with resources. Springtime is prime “I Do” season and with the Prince Harry and Meghan’s union fast approaching, there is a sense of a new start, blossoming love and kindness towards each other. On May 19th, WBM magazine will watch this display of pomp and circumstance with rapt attention since we believe fairy tales really do come true.

WHAT WERE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU FACED IN PLANNING YOUR WEDDING IN CUBA? Communication with the venue, videographers, and other vendors was difficult because of Cuba’s limited access to the Internet and expensive phone calls. Even though we planned one year in advance, we were putting the finishing touches (such as confirming whether we were even going to have cake or flowers) three days before the wedding! We had realistic expectations about the difficulties of procuring certain ingredients, furniture, and equipment due to their scarcity, so at the end of the day everything exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t be happier.
Knowing that my parents are aging, I make sure to video-call them several times a week and of course I am looking forward to starting my own family with Kat.

im Jones took us on a tropical get-away with his Spring 2018 menswear collection for Louis Vuitton. Jones said he was inspired by a book he read, “The Atlas
of Remote Islands: Fifty Islands I Have Not Visited and Never Will.” Inspired especially by Hawaii, the idea of traveling and experiencing different pockets of civilization were brilliantly displayed in this inherently cool presentation of relaxed tailoring, convincing proportions, and incredibly advanced fabric technique. Notably obtainable, the collection gave a luxe factor on the classic Aloha shirt, with printed organza overlay giving them a liquid veneer.
Jones has never been shy to use color in his
collections, and here is a smart combo of bright blue, orange, yellow, red and green paired with muted tones for realistic wearability.
For this presentation, the brand is positioned
to follow up to the Internet breaking 2017 LV x Supreme collaboration that the team was strategically revealing on social media. Teasers of the print on logo with heavy accessories on Jones’ Instagram 40 | World Bride Magazine

A most appropriate song for models to walk the runway was created by none other than @champagnepapi, DRAKE, who continues the tradition of the House of Vuitton’s brilliantly curated balance of its heirloom prestige with incredibly engaging reach to youth culture.

by each individual’s personality, geography, access, and budget. But, be clear, budget or access does not buy taste. If you have bad taste no amount of money in the world will make you look stylish. But wherever you are with your style, the best thing you can do is own it.
Here are a few simple tips that will guide you towards an
important investment—you.
Do your research. What does that mean? Who are
your favorite male figures? Whether it is your father; uncles; grandfather or your favorite actor; musician, or artists. What about them do you like? What makes you identify with them? Can you carry off your style? Can you own it? You never want to look like a cheap imitation of anyone.
have identified a look, research again. Identify the brand. Be realistic. Don’t floss if you don’t have the means to maintain it. Check your favorite brands for sample sales. Yes, I said sample sales. Friends and Family Sales. It is best to buy authentic than cheap imitations. Stay true to your sense of style.
Vintage, classic designs never go out of style. Luxury is

Suits and Suit Jackets—Your suit fits you, no exception.
Make sure your sleeve jacket is the proper length. Be certain that the jacket buttons are able to close properly. Pant length should be adjusted to fit properly with your favorite shoes.

WBM ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION
DAD’S DATING after DIVORCE
W
BY SHANNON LANIER
hile this article may not seem appropriate for a wedding magazine, we thought the topic
AD
was certainly worthy of a healthy
discussion. After all, for some, it is a part of today’s lifestyle and quite frankly, a subject that has haunted many. Perhaps this wedding, is going to be your second and you have children with another. How do you address such a sensitive topic? You must have the conversation. But how? Well, let us help you. As we all know, there is no shortage of examples of divorces in Hollywood and how even before the ink dries on the alimony decrees, the Paparazzi are snapping pics of the new leading lady. However, when there are children involved, the divorce game has to be played with a different set of rules. Three years ago, during the very public divorce of Gwyneth Paltrow and her now-ex Chris Martin, people thought it odd as they coined the term “conscious uncoupling.” But clearly, they were on to something. Their divorce wasn’t a messy, hate-filled, all-out public
brawl made to destroy the other person and take the kids away. They chose to separate civilly and focus on the most important aspect of their marriage— their two children. When children are involved in a divorce they must be your focus not just for the sake of the separation, but for your re-entry into the dating scene. Too often, we’ve seen men get out of a marriage and bounce right back into another relationship, usually with a younger woman. The rebound is typically done for sex, obviously but also for validation; security; as a painkiller and an ego or self-esteem booster. While all those reasons are totally understandable, your kids, regardless their age don’t need to be part of that. Guys, please don’t bring your dates or even official girlfriends around your kids just yet. As a disclaimer, ladies don’t do this either. However, they usually don’t!

that women go through various stages in life: loving her body; hating it; wishing more or less. It’s something we go through.
So after meeting Dany Mizarachi and spending time with him and
learning of his legacy of designing women’s couture gowns for years, I learned that it is with great knowledge and appreciation of her ever changing internal and external moment that she undergoes is what he keeps in mind when he comes up with his creations. He noticed that a woman feels empowered when she “feels” her best and sexiest and exudes the ownership of her sexuality on her terms. With each piece he creates, he wants everyone to first embrace her inner beauty, then for the bride to wear it outwardly. Whether she is feeling innocent or like a princess, he wants her to own it.

This volume delves into the hat’s remarkable history, production process, and variety of shapes, while celebrating the grace of living of its country of origin: Ecuador. Panama: Legendary Hats pays fitting tribute to the “aristocrat of the straw hats.”
The price is of little importance: What people look for is fineness, suppleness, regularity— the ivory tone. This kind of panama cannot go out of fashion.
Martine Buchet, author of Assouline’s La Colombe d’Or: Saint Paul de Vence, traveled to Ecuador to research and discover the origins of the Panama hat. Over the last fifteen years, Laziz Hamani has produced work for the world’s most prestigious luxury names, and

The Ethiopian-born designer created for clothes for herself and her dolls in her Addis Ababa home, before migrating to the United States to study commercial art in Vermont.
