Sharon Pratt Pavilion Pirates Strike at Denton Island th

Sunday 26 October 2019 saw the ‘Pavilion Pirates’ continue their rampage along the coast. The attack came to Denton Island residents when six gangs of the pirates lead by Captain Krupa sneaked through the village and ravaged their headquarters with a full frontal attack. Initially the two sides discussed the rules of battle and at four bells (2 pm) both sides fired aiming shots resulting either side receiving strikes on three emplacements each. The right flank of the pirates’ emplacements three, four and five, suffered from inaccurate sighting of their guns with their shots going over the top of the Denton defences. The battle continued with neither side gaining tremendous advantage. The tenth fusillade saw both sides suffering almost equally with the pirates gaining the advantage with two shots more than hits delivered into the defendants. Pirates emplacements two and three each had a powder keg blown up by accurate fire from Denton Islanders and emplacement four suffered several kegs

disposed of by deadly accurate fire from Denton’s No. four gunner. Both sides being exhausted by the mayhem called a truce to refresh themselves with brews and ships biscuits. When seven bells (3:30pm) rang the battle was resumed and Denton Islanders rallied delivering eighty-four devastating fusillades into the pirates’ emplacements and receiving only seventy. The next five fusillades saw the pirates’ emplacements three, four and five rally with Denton defendants fighting back in emplacements one, five and six. The battle continued until each side was exhausted after firing twenty-one fusillades with the pirates rallying and delivering one hundred and seventeen hits into the Denton Islanders’ magazines and receiving one hundred and five in return. Neither had any ammunition left. Is anybody safe from these ruffians? The Islanders invited the pirates to parley and at a quarter of the hour past two bells (5:15pm) both protagonists sat down to a feast provided by the Islanders which they enjoyed so much they said they would return again in the future and then disappearing as they had arrived at five bells (6:30pm) Well done.
