to become successful coaches in Sussex. Gordon was coach coordinator from 2009 to 2013 for the club, when he handed over the responsibilities to myself. We have created a full programme of coaching and follow up training which has proved to be very successful for the club. The coaches at the club are proud that Gordon has put so much work into making the coaching at our club such a success and the EBCS and the county have now officially recognised the part that Gordon has played in the improvement in the standard of Sussex coaching in general.

Motions to be put to the meeting need to be handed into the secretary’s office by th 27 August. Please make an effort to attend this meeting, where you will have the opportunity to ask questions on matters that may come up.
PAVILION POST The way forward The board have received proposals for the refurbishment of the club lounge and dining area. The board will present a proposal regarding the refurbishment prior to the AGM. The item will be discussed after the formal meeting.
Caterers The Board, on behalf of the club sends its best wishes to Dave and Yvonne as they leave to take up new roles. We welcome Donna and Lily from Highdown Tea Rooms who are taking st over from 1 September 2018. We urge all members to give our new caterers their support.
Finals Weekend
arrived early and had their breakfast at the club. We then taught them the basics of bowls and they then had a break for coffee. After the break they had a game of bowls which proved to be a very competitive game, many showing great promise. As they come from the Horsham area there was little or no prospect of them joining the club, but they really enjoyed themselves. They stayed on after the session and enjoyed the bar facilities, they then went to have lunch at the Crab Shack at Splash Point. We had a really nice e-mail from the organiser: ‘On behalf of 'The Badgers' I would like to thank you for your warm reception and also Richard and his tutors for their excellent instruction.
Please remember that finals weekend is th th Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September. Why not come up and enjoy some good bowling, good company and good food. The bar will be open throughout the weekend.
Bank Holiday Monday Please note that the bar and catering section will be closed all day on Monday th 27 August. The club will open as normal but will be secured at 8 pm.
Off to Oz All our best wishes go to Carol Artley and Paul Wilson as they leave the lush pavilion greens in Worthing to try out their skills on bowling greens in Australia. Both have been great contributors to the club as captains and officers. Bon Voyage guys!
You have a fantastic facility there with great kitchen and bar staff who made as all feel at home. It was a relief to play indoors in the air conditioned bowling greens, it sure would have been hot outside. It is a shame this is not nearer Horsham, where we all come from, but I am sure some of us will be taking it up locally and hopefully return to Worthing to play one day.’

Tourists are reminded of the meeting to be held in the lounge at Pavilion at 7pm nd on Wednesday 22 August 2018 to finalise the arrangements for the th Eastbourne tour on 10 September.
Spring Tour 2019 The annual Spring bowls bonanza tour to Warner Bembridge on the Isle of th st Wight from 25 February till 1 March 2019 continues to attract club members, both seasoned tourists, friends and new members alike. At the last reckoning there were forty or so names on the list. Teams from Pavilion have won the first prize of £1,500 for the past two consecutive years, so let’s try to make it a third straight win!! The cost of the four night stay provides good value for money and in line with costs we have experienced in past years. If you are not part of a team of four players don’t worry too much as a place will be found to accommodate everyone. In the meantime, keep an eye of the notice board for any updates.

PAVILION POST now staying on a half board basis at the Norfolk Lodge Hotel, in St Helier. The cost for the tour will be £347 if forty travel or £367 if thirty-five travel, including VAT per person. This should be read in conjunction with the notice on the tourist notice board at the club. Incidentally, the ferry crossing will take about four hours by a Condor Secat vessel.
A non-refundable deposit of £50 per person is required by 31st October 2018. I have reserved twelve single rooms and twenty doubles, due to the demand. At the last reckoning the list on the notice board of those enrolling for the tour has about six singles and nine double rooms already taken. The number of tourists was influenced by the size of the coach on Jersey being limited to forty-three seats.

Temptations End of an era Thursday 23 August 2018 marked a sad end to a nigh on 15 year era, that saw Dave and Yvonne aka ‘Temptations’ serve their last meals before leaving the club. There was a steady flow of loyal supporters in for a lunchtime meal as a token of appreciation for all that Dave and Yvonne had done for the club over the past decade and to wish them well on their new ventures. It was not uncommon for them to provide catering at short notice, even on a scheduled day off. Goodness knows how they managed to cater with some of the larger demands placed upon them over the years, especially match meals that involved up to twelve rinks, equivalent to ninety-six or so table places. Despite these difficult logistics they always managed to deliver on time, frequently helped by Sally, Claire and Natasha who waited on tables. Yvonne in particular invested a great deal of time and money assisting with organising Christmas Dinners, other large functions as well as sponsoring raffles on behalf of the club. Despite being during their period of notice, they pulled out all the stops to man the barbeque that made for a successful celebratory evening for the th recent 70 anniversary of the club. I am sure that members will join me in thanking them for all their contributions over the years.
