SECURITY Look after your valuables while playing at the club. A recent incident has left a member short of cash. While he was playing he had left his wallet in one of the locker rooms. Unfortunately, for him, somebody spotted it and emptied the cash contained therein and discarded the wallet in the car park, where it was later found. REMEMBER. DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES OR KEYS LYING AROUND OR EVEN IN YOUR POCKETS IN GARMENTS LEFT ON THE HOOKS WHILE YOU ARE PLAYING AND KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED TO PREVENT UNWANTED INTRUDERS.

Secretary’s Notes

I was completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of friends who attended the funeral of my late dear wife Diana that exceeded my expectations. I have received over one hundred letters and cards of condolence, so many that I could not reply to them. However I appreciated them and would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Please be aware that smoking and vaping are not permitted beyond the confines of the car park. There have been persistent occurrences of members ignoring the rules and this should stop immediately. Action will be taken against those who continue to flout the bye laws.

MOBILE PHONES Similar to the byelaw regarding smoking, the use of mobile phones on or within earshot of the greens is not permitted. The best policy is to leave your phone in your locker.

Graham French Hon Secretary

PAVILION POST World’s Apart

Crime Prevention

a letter with a phone call at a later date. Immediate payment. It is vital that the public exercise caution when receiving messages or telephone calls of this nature. What you need to do

I put my name forward for an away match at a club that I have often been keen to visit out of curiosity. The club situated in an idyllic location, but spoiled by an awful green covered in plethora of brown patches not dissimilar to a worn out WWII camouflage net. Albeit there was evidence of grass seed having been sprinkled onto the dry bare soil, presumably in the hope it might germinate sometime soon. As we were soon to find out the rinks were covered in undulations, not helped by a portly member of the home team who just casually launched his woods four feet or so into the air above the green where they landed with a thud. Then just after three o’clock a noisy horde of schoolchildren and parents traipsed past the green making their way home from school. Yes, I know that everyone had to play under the same conditions and even If it were to become an allotment it would still hold some charm because of its location. How lucky we are to have Vince.

Action Fraud has experienced an increase in the reporting of malicious calls and voicemails, to members of the public purporting to be from Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC). Fraudsters are spoofing genuine HMRC telephone numbers to deceive their victims over the phone. The fraudsters state that as a result of the victim’s nonpayment of tax or other duty, the victim is liable for prosecution or other legal proceedings in order to settle the balance. The fraudsters suggest victims can avoid this, by arranging payment to be made immediately by methods such as bank transfer or by purchasing iTunes gift cards. If the victim is hesitant or refuses to comply, the suspect makes a threat such as immediate arrest, sending bailiffs to the victim’s address or, in some cases, deportation. Often, the period for which the tax is allegedly due is distant enough to guarantee the victim will have little, if any, paperwork or ability to verify the claims. Once the money is paid the suspects sever all contact with the victim. In genuine cases, HMRC will initially make direct contact with you via post/letter and potentially follow up that HMRC will not discuss something you are not already aware of, like a tax investigation, and will not demand If HMRC contact you via telephone they will quote the reference number on the initial letter you should have received.

Always question unsolicited requests for your personal or financial information. Just because someone knows your basic details (such as your name and contact details), it doesn’t mean they are genuine. Instead, contact the company directly using trusted methods such as a known email address or phone number. Legitimate organisations wouldn’t ask you to pay taxes, bills or fees using an iTunes gift card, or any other type of voucher. If you’re contacted by anyone that asks you to do this, you’re likely the target of a scam. Don’t be rushed or pressured into making a decision. Under no circumstances would a genuine bank or some other trusted organisation force you to make a financial transaction on the spot. Report Phishing attempts. If you receive a call, text or email of this nature and have not lost money, you can report this as phishing to Action Fraud.
