Over the New Year the club will close at st 2pmThursday 31 December 2015 and nd will re-open at 8am Saturday 2 January 2016, Over Christmas the kitchen will close after the lunch session on Christmas Eve and will re-open at 9am Saturday nd 2 January 2016.
I must apologise for my poor effort, after the Gentlemen v Ladies match, when I tried to thank everybody for their good wishes and kind thoughts. There are a number of club members who are battling health problems, but, because I am club captain my case attracts comment. I am sure you join me in wishing them all a quick recovery back to good health. I am determined to beat this disease and soon be back to better health myself. I would also like to thank everyone for your friendship and kindness which was something I may have hoped for, but never expected, on joining a bowls club. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year. As to the match itself, this is now becoming a much more competitive encounter with the Ladies ever closing the gap on their male counterparts. This year only eighteen shots separated the two sides with the Gentlemen winning by an overall score of 128 to 110 shots. Top rink players for the Gentlemen resulted in two sides winning with +9 score were:1) Bryan Bodicoat, John Holliman, Tim Baldwin and ‘Skip’ Warwick Davis on rink five and 2) Benny Bennett, Paul Webster, John Frew and ’Skip’ Mervyn Hilton on rink six.

League etc Update Worthing Pavilion had mixed fortunes in their matches over the weekend. In the Denny Cup they had a 103 - 50 win over Arun to progress to the 2nd Round. The rink of Gavin Beven, Alan Vidler, Colin Brown and Neil Kerkhove doing the damage with a 36 - 9 win at
PAVILION POST home, but Pavilion also won on the other three rinks. In their first league game on Sunday however they came unstuck against a very strong side from Adur losing 83 142. In the National Mixed Fours the Pavilion quartet lost out to a team from the Victory Bowls Club from Portsmouth.
John Frew Note from The Chair As you are aware after the AGM there were major changes to the Board of Directors and our sincere thanks are extended to our predecessors. As you can imagine it has been a steep learning curve for everyone. But I think that we have found the right line and it now just a matter of getting the weight right. We hope you have noticed the recent changes around the club, they may seem quite small at the moment, but we are working on other things to keep your club updated and a pleasant environment in which we will all enjoy playing bowls. It’s nice to see Yvonne and Dave with a smile on their faces again, whether this is because of the new menu, the extra opening times or whether it’s the constant sight of those tempting cakes, they are now supplying I am not sure, but whatever it is keep up the good work guys. The social committee continue to work tirelessly arranging functions for your entertainment. The calendar of events is shown on page 4 also on various social notice boards. The committee would be grateful of your full support. Please feel free to contact myself or any member of the board if you have any complaints, suggestions, constructive ideas that YOU think will benefit the club. Good bowling
Esme Clough A Question of Law Rink Possession It is not uncommon to see some players deliver their bowl before the preceding bowl eventually comes to rest. Even though the previous player had stepped off the mat, the possession of
the rink still remains with them until such time that their bowl comes to rest. This issue is covered by Law 41 of the WIBC Laws of the Sport of Indoor Bowls Law 41 (iii)
As soon as each bowl shall have come to rest, possession of the rink shall be transferred to the other team, time being allowed for marking a toucher.
Penalties for infringing the law of rink possession is covered in Law 41(iv)
Late Xmas Shopping? Easyfundraising With Christmas just around the corner no doubt many of you will be making those last minute purchases on-line. You will forgive me for mentioning it yet again, but you could be giving Pavilion a welcomed Christmas present as well, if you make all your on-line purchases through club sponsor easyfundraising. Despite being regularly mentioned, so far Pavilion has just forty subscribers registered with them and not all of them are club members per sé. Most of the popular on-line shopping sites, such as John Lewis, Amazon, to Argos can be accessed through easyfundraising, who make a small donation for every purchase made through them. There is also a price comparison page that will help you find the best deal. We are constantly being reminded that members’ subscriptions alone do not cover the running costs of the club and we rely on sponsorships, donations as well as other avenues to make up the difference. It will cost you absolutely nothing to register with easyfundraising to secure more donations for the benefit of the club. Even if you do not contribute otherwise towards the running of Pavilion and these donations however small, will all add up and there cannot be a better time of the year to start. http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/caus es/worthingpbcltd/

Neighbourhood Watch ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ ‘Stand and Deliver’ Malcolm Gilbey brought this recent communique from Katy Bourne, (Sussex PCC) to my attention, thinking that it may also be of interest to you and give you the opportunity to express your own views on the prospect of paying out yet more council taxation:‘One of the responsibilities of Police and Crime Commissioners is to set the budget for policing. A small proportion of the cost of policing is paid from your council tax with the rest coming directly from Government. This local council tax element is called the precept, which I set each year following close consultation with local taxpayers. As your PCC in Sussex, I have to consider the Chief Constable’s operational policing plan and determine whether the amount you pay for policing locally should stay the same or rise to allow investment in key areas. I have launched a public consultation to find out if local taxpayers would be prepared to pay an additional amount next year, per household, to enable me to invest directly in two areas that the Chief Constable has highlighted as priorities for policing: 1. Protecting children and vulnerable adults in Sussex from exploitation and abuse. 2. Digital forensic capability to retrieve, analyse and store information held on computers, mobiles and tablets. You can find out more about these investment proposals and have your say in the public consultation here: https://www.sussex-pcc.gov.uk/publicconsultations/. I hope you will complete the short online survey and encourage your networks to have their say in the consultation as well. Your feedback is important to me thank you for taking the time to tell me what you think. The consultation will remain open until Friday 8 January 2016. Once it has closed I am duty-bound to inform the Sussex Police and Crime Panel of my considerations. This decision will be reviewed by the Panel on Friday 22 January 2016. Best wishes’

Time and time again you find empty or partly empty plastic cups, drinks glasses even cups and saucers left by the rinks or water dispenser. I have been asked to request if you use the water dispenser, or take other drinks down to the rinks, that you dispose of the plastic cups in the provided waste receptacles and equally return glasses, mugs, cups and saucers to the bar or kitchen as appropriate.
As of 14 November 2015 there were thirty-seven or so names on the list of persons wishing to join the late summer tour to South Devon. I have booked thirty rooms, some of which are single, so there are still places available for about twenty more members. This means that the first come, first served principle will apply. If you wish to come on this tour please place your name along with your partners (if applicable) so that I can begin to organise the rooms allocated to us by the hotel. We have a fifty-two seater coach agreed, but if members wish to travel in their own vehicle to Devon, this will be fine, however they will still have to share the full cost of the tour, that will also

Temptations are trialling the opening of the kitchen on both Monday mornings and Friday evenings, as well as introducing a new menu and a loyalty card. Hopefully members will give Dave and Yvonne their full support in these ventures.
Editor Upcoming Functions th
As of 14 November there were still a few seats available for the coach trip to Winchester Cathedral / Christmas th market on Monday 30 November, as a few members unfortunately had to withdraw from going due to unforeseen circumstances. If you are interested in joining the outing please speak to Maurice Gooch as soon as possible. The Christmas Dinner / Dance and th midday lunch on Saturday 5 and th Thursday 10 December 2015 are only a short way off and the number of members who have subscribed to attend the functions is disappointingly low. There is some uncertainty whether these functions will be viable. If you still would like to attend the functions. the lists are still on the social notice board by the servery, so don’t delay in putting your name down! Please give your support to the members of the social committee who work endlessly on your behalf.

include the cost of the coach. Final costs for this tour will be published later, but I anticipate it should be around £350 per person for an anticipated fifty people attending. Should we fail in getting fifty members to go, then the costs will increase slightly. The more going the cheaper it will become. I have been able to arrange our fourth match against Starcross & District Bowls Club, a club just a stone’s throw from the hotel itself. Starcross is an old club founded in 1922 and boasts a membership of around one and twenty or so members; that number including non-players. They have a modern club house with excellent facilities and like many of the clubs that we visit the daily maintenance of their green is carried out by club members. It would appear that Devon County also use the club’s green for matches, so on that basis it promises to be a pleasant afternoon bowling. Newsletter of Worthing Pavilion BC
number (which can be found in the club register by the entrance door) whom you wish to play with, who you are travelling with and what will be your motor vehicle registration number for this trip. This information is now needed for me to complete the required forms for Bembridge to enable us all to be registered for travel documents and games at the Hotel. Your help in this area will make my job a lot easier in obtaining the necessary documents to facilitate our travel. Don and I will call an AGM for the touring side sometime during early February, a notice to this effect will appear on the usual notice board in due course. In the meantime winter well and have a lovely Christmas.
