Playing Matters Men’s Opening Drive Wow!! what phenomenal weather for the men’s outdoor opening drive on th Saturday 20 April with wall to wall unbroken sunshine and temperatures in the region of 24̊ c. The last outdoor opening drive that I attended back in 2017 saw us facing high winds, rain and hail throughout the session. What a contrast. Apparently today is forecast to be the hottest Easter holiday period for nigh on seventy years. Hopefully the ladies will have more of the same next week for their opening drive. On a more sombre note if the weather follows the pattern of last summer, the greens are likely to take a battering. In order to minimise damage to the playing surfaces it is important therefore NOT

Equally avoid sitting on the banks and treading on the edge of the greens. Moving the positions of the mat can also help avoid unnecessary wear and tear. Members who find difficulty with their deliveries should speak to Richard Calvert, the senior coach at the club, who may be able to offer advice.

PAVILION POST Late Contribution Matinee Triples Matiness Triples As winter gives way to spring so the indoor Matinee Triples league competition comes to an end. This season there were six teams with about eight players in each. Graham French's team four were the early leaders by last November having won their first five matches. However, they lost their next four matches which allowed Ray Bivand's team five to take over the lead. They stayed at the top of the league for the remainder of the season and, with two points for a win, amassed a splendid total of fifty-three points from the thirtyfive matches.

Very well done to all the players in team five namely John Wyard, Keith Cooper, Malcolm Gardiner, Mike Mullahy, Bob Phillips, Malcolm Dacosta and, of course, Ray Bivand, the team leader. Graham French's team four were the runners up with forty-nine points. Clyde Fordyce's team six came third with thirty-seven points. Following the end of the Matinee Triples, and to close the season, a mini competition was arranged for the first day of spring, Thursday 21st March. There were twelve teams of three players in each on all five indoor rinks

playing two sets of nine ends. The winners of the top prize of ÂŁ48 were team three (a) consisting of Eric Gall, Dave Chilver and Mick Steggell. They won both sets with a shot difference of thirty-one. The runners up were John McCormick, Charlie Ward and Barry Wood in team one, winning f24. All the results are on the club noticeboard. We now look forward to the outdoor summer season and some fine sunny weather.
