win Best Club Trophy Glasgow Ski Racing has won Best Club Trophy at the English Alpine Championships in Bormio. By G Kelly The Glasgow club which practices mainly on dry ice slopes defeated clubs from across Britain to one of the most prestigious titles at the event. In total there were more than 200 racers at the event 130 male and 70 female who were all British based. Glasgow Ski Racing had six racers competing for medals, Nicole Richie

travelled from her base in Canada, Euan Kick and David Mac travelled and trained from Les Houche in France. The team who all began as complete novices and are now competing for titles on a regular basis train once a week at Glasgow’s Bellahouston ski slopes. Throughout the year the team travel to ski slopes across Europe to improve their skills on snow slopes as there is a limit to how much improvement you make on artificial based slopes.

The club which offers free use of slope also offers a variety of other slope based activities for all ages and sizes.

to not only compete but win against the bigger clubs is brilliant, we train weekly on dry slopes and try our best to get to the mountainous slopes. We also take the team to ski camps across Europe throughout the year, but not only is it a financial commitment to the families of the members involved, but also a real time commitment as well”

Drew Travers of the Glasgow Ski Racing club could not contain his delight when speaking of his clubs achievements “its amazing” he said “for a club of this size

With the Sochi Winter Olympics still as fresh as the snow that the Glasgow members ski on, does the team have ambitions at competing in future events

The trophy awarded to the Glasgow based ski team is an incredible achievement because of the level of competition that the team faced with teams that have members from right across the country.

and future Olympic Games? Drew Travers spoke about the groups chances “Oh yeah everyone of them has ambitions to compete in the Winter Olympics, especially after tasting success in Bormio, and watching the British success at the Sochi games. Each one of them has been given the belief that they can also be a success, no matter what. I would say that they will be determined to succeed and has the ability to reach the Winter Olympics.”
