WSIU Staff, Students Win State Awards WSIU students and staff continued their award-winning tradition at the SPRING 2017 CONVENTION of the ILLINOIS NEWS BROADCASTER ASSOCIATION (INBA), held in Urbana, Ill. on Saturday, April 22. WSIU Radio News Reporter BRAD PALMER (at left), was presented with a professional award by the ASSOCIATED PRESS. Palmer won 1st place in the Best Radio Sports Report for his feature on a regional polo team. [Photo at left: Pearl Franz]

Historically, summer has been a time for warmer weather, outdoor activities, and nothing good on television. Like most of you, we’re OK with the first two, but at WSIU we’re trying our best to dispel that last notion. The premiere of Grantchester Season 3 on Masterpiece, My Mother and Other Strangers Season 1, and the first of three new episodes of Prime Suspect: Tennison all head your way in June – and that’s just on Sunday nights. NOVA looks inside Making North America, while historian Michael Wood explores The Story of China beginning on June 20. Then we follow a family of racers at close to 200mph on Klocked: Women with Horsepower on July 1. Ken Burns’ Statue of Liberty is a classic worth another look, kicking off a July 4th weekend that includes Forgotten Ellis Island and, of course, A Capitol Fourth. So, while there’s always plenty to do outside when the weather is warm, there’s also plenty to watch inside when the sun goes down or when you just want to exercise your mind after a day of exercising your body. Your support makes it all possible. Enjoy!

WSIU’s student-produced RIVER REGION EVENING EDITION and SALUKI SPORTSVIEW placed 2nd in Best TV Newscast and Best TV Sports Program, respectively.
