Exploration Zone at Eclipse Expo a Big Hit!

Proudly Sponsored Locally By Thousands of people from across the country and around the world visited the CROSSROADS ASTRONOMY, SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY EXPO at the SIU Arena during the weekend of the total solar eclipse – and many of them stopped by to visit with us at WSIU’s PBS KIDS EXPLORATION ZONE. WSIU’s interactive exhibit was a wildly popular attraction for families and included a selfie station featuring wallsized star maps and science facts, props like a steampunk rocket, captain’s chair, space helmet, and WSIU selfie signs, and photo opportunities with PBS KIDS character Jet Propulsion. Kids enjoyed space science-themed games and activities, collected astronomy trading cards, and watched PBS KIDS videos while parents browsed free WSIU materials and giveaways items Thank you to the WSIU staff, SIU students, Friends Board members, and other volunteers who helped to make this event an incredible success – and a big “THANK YOU” to FIRST SOUTHERN BANK for sponsoring our Exploration Zone. We enjoyed connecting with PBS fans of all ages and received positive feedback throughout the event!

TUESDAYS 7PM

SUNDAYS 9PM OCT 8-NOV 19

OCT 3-DEC 19

In post-WWII, Paul Sabine is restoring Paris as the fashion capital of the world. His dresses are a sensation, and only his shady past and an inconvenient corpse block his way to the top. Dressing up was never so dazzling – or dangerous. Richard Coyle, Mamie Gummer, and Tom Riley star in this visually stunning story, set during a pivotal moment in France’s history.

Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o, Ted Danson, Carmelo Anthony, Suzanne Malveaux, Bernie Sanders, Ana Navarro, Ava DuVernay, Amy Schumer, Paul Rudd, and Christopher Walken are among the guests who discover surprising ancestral stories in the fourth season of FINDING YOUR ROOTS WITH HENRY LOUIS GATES, JR.

SUNDAYS 7PM OCT 15-NOV 19 It was a dark and stormy night – in Corfu, of all places! A spooky séance in wild weather is just one of the many adventures, along with otter breeding, a cricket showdown, and the Durrell family’s multi-generational search for romance, in season two of THE DURRELLS IN CORFU.

“We are all connected to larger stories that have played a role in shaping who we are as people and as a nation,” says Professor Gates, the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor at Harvard University and director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research. “This new season will continue to inspire people to find out more about their own personal family stories, and spark an interest among young people in genetics, anthropology, history, and the pursuit of science.”
