Fall 2014 Community
Support Celebration
Thank you to our WSIU Radio listeners who helped make our 2014 Fall Community Support Celebration a success! Listeners pledged nearly $20,000 to help offset the station’s FY 2015 programming bill, which totals $281,000.
NEW LOCAL SCHEDULE:
Listener contributions provide about a third of the station’s annual budget and allow WSIU to invest in your favorite radio programs, including Morning Conversation, All Things Considered, and Celtic Connections. Special thanks to WSIU’s Laura Cobin, Susan Patrick, and Lisa Morrisette for all the hard work they put into making this event a success. WSIU also appreciates the staff, students, and community members who volunteered by answering phones, working on-air, and supplying food for our volunteers.
Beginning November 17, NPR is making changes to its newsmagazine clocks, which impacts our local break schedule.

The Hapa Generation
All Things Considered | Sunday, November 1
Show TBD | Date TBD
Between 1981 and 2012, one million extra twins were born in the US. The culprits are older mothers and in vitro fertilization, which both come with risk of multiple births. But in the last couple years the twin birth rate has leveled off, due in part to better fertility treatments. That means the so-called Millennial generation is the “twin-iest” generation that ever was (or ever will be). NPR’s Becky Hersher reports.
In 2010, 15% of all new marriages were interracial, up from 3.2% in 1980. In the last census, the number of people reporting as "2 or more races" grew by more than any other group. This means that Millennials will be giving birth to a greater number of multiracial children than ever before. What does this growth mean for racial identity? NPR’s Lauren Migaki reports.
Black Marriage
All Things Considered | Week of November 3 Recent research from the Pew Center found that 36 percent of African Americans older than 25 have never been married. That's a greater number than any other racial demographic, and a dramatic rise in the last 50 years. NPR's Shereen Marisol Meraji talks with experts about why that is, and how that affects young African-American couples who have decided to get hitched.
